RENTAL CARS UAE: ABSOLUTELY DISGRACEFUL! MONEY TAKEN, CAR NEVER DELIVERED, CUSTOMER COMPLETELY ABANDONED!

AVOID THIS COMPANY AT ALL COSTS!

I booked and paid for a rental car in Dubai. My flight was delayed, and the office was closed when I arrived. However, their driver contacted me, took me home, and personally guaranteed that my car would be delivered the following morning by 10:00 AM.

WHAT HAPPENED NEXT? NO CAR, NO DELIVERY, NO EXPLANATION, AND NO RESPONSE!

The company completely ignored my calls, and even the driver who promised the delivery suddenly became unreachable.

THEY WERE QUICK TO TAKE MY MONEY, BUT ONCE THEY HAD IT, THEY CLEARLY COULDN’T CARE LESS ABOUT ME AS A CUSTOMER!

This is the most disgraceful part. Not only did they fail to provide the service I paid for, but they didn’t even have the decency to answer the phone or offer an explanation.

ABSOLUTELY SHAMEFUL AND UNACCEPTABLE!

You cannot take a customer’s money and then treat them like they don’t exist!

Based on my experience, this company is COMPLETELY UNTRUSTWORTHY AND SHOULD BE AVOIDED AT ALL COSTS!

Very disappointing experience with AMEX Rental.
My booking was on 18 July 2026 (Booking B21920557). A deposit of AED 2,000 was taken, and AMEX Rental later confirmed that AED 1,716.46 was due to be refunded.
Despite contacting them on several occasions, I am now in October and still have not received my refund, even though their own stated refund timeframe has passed.

The most frustrating part is having to repeatedly chase for money that has already been confirmed as refundable.
I would strongly advise customers to be aware of the deposit and refund process before booking. I will update this review if and when the refund is finally received.

Very Poor Customer Service – Not Recommended

I had a very disappointing experience with this car rental company. They sent me an additional invoice almost one month after I had already returned the vehicle, without providing any clear explanation or supporting details.

I immediately contacted them and asked for a reference or clarification regarding what the additional invoice was for, but I received no response. After waiting another month without any proper explanation, I eventually decided to pay the invoice simply to close the matter and avoid further inconvenience.

The lack of communication and follow-up is extremely disappointing and shows very poor customer service. Customers should not have to chase a company for basic clarification regarding an unexpected charge.

I would recommend considering other car rental agencies. Based on my experience, this company has been one of the worst in terms of customer service and handling customer concerns.

REVIEWING AMEX CAR RENTAL, SAME GROUP OF COMPANIES.

THEY REMOTELY DEACTIVATED MY CAR ENGINE. AVOID!!!

After renting a car from AMEX for around 7months this year I've come here to write a review of my experience and I see dozens of terrible reviews from other customers. So it seems to be a pattern or a company culture rather than a series of isolated incidents. I have evidence for everything I write in this review. Happy to provide copies to anyone interested. I will also be making a complaint to the Consumer Rights Department.

Bear with me as there were multiple red flags. I'll start with the most repulsive one.

1 - I used to pay my monthly invoice via a payment link sent to me over whatsapp. Always prompt no issues. But then during a brief period of being super busy with an event I forgot to make the payment on the due date, It was maybe 1.5 days or 2 days late. Went to start the car one morning, it would not start. I thought there was something wrong with the engine or battery. And based on my prior experience with them about tyre deflation complaints (see point below) I decided to just handle it myself as it was clear they are not interested in the condition of their vehicles, they are happy to take your cash but do not maintain their cars well at all. So I paid for a mechanic to visit. Once he confirmed it was not the battery they called a recovery truck and took it to a garage to check what was wrong. Lo and behold - REMOTE ENGINE DEACTIVATION. I wasn't even aware this was possible with such old car models. No 'gentle reminder' no call. Deactivation without saying a word. What is the average daily cost for a rental car? AED 50-60 per day? And what is the deposit amount they hold with them? AED 1000-1500 depending on company and car model. So even though they were already holding an amount that was almost TEN times the cost of the delayed payment days this is the action they took. I have addressed this with them over email several times and they will not acknowledge what they did. No reply, no comment, no acknowledgement. When someone knows what they did is unethical they generally stay silent. That is the acknowledgement.

2 - Almost immediately after they delivered the car to me I started getting alerts about tyre pressure issues. I took it to a petrol station to check and the technician told me there was no puncture but the tyres were literally considered 'expired'.  When I reported this to AMEX the lovely person I communicated with said "you can just fill air at the petrol station madam". But they were not willing to do anything about it or replace the car. So for several weeks every couple of days I had to stop at petrol stations to fill air in the tyres to keep driving the car.. Eventually one morning I saw that the front tyre was completely deflated. They then had no choice but to replace the car. This is a safety issue. Zero interest until absolutely necessary. That tyre could have burst whilst I was driving. I was lucky it happened whilst the car was parked and idle.

3 - I returned the car on June 13th. I'm writing this review at the end of September. I have yet to receive my deposit . If I have any deductions due for whatever reason they still need to provide written evidence of the deduction, e.g. a formal debit note. You can't just withhold someone's funds without documentation provided. It's been three months since I returned the car.

Happy to provide evidence of every point raised above. I have emails, whatsapp messages, photos and videos. Do yourself a favor and avoid them like the plague.

Poor service, wrong vehicle and still waiting for my refund after almost 2 months

I booked a Kia Sportage through VIP Cars, but when I arrived I was given a Kia Seltos instead. The vehicle was also in a poor condition, with dirty rear seats, including what appeared to be jelly or food residue, and the fuel level was almost empty.

This was particularly disappointing because I had booked and paid based on the vehicle advertised, and the car provided was not what I expected.

The rental was provided by Rental Cars UAE, which operates under VIP Cars. When I complained and personally went to their office, I was told that the matter would be resolved within 24 hours. That did not happen.

When I returned the vehicle, I was assured that my deposit would be returned within one month. VIP Cars later also confirmed that my deposit and a one-day rental refund would be paid.

However, almost two months later, I have still received neither the deposit nor the one-day rental refund. VIP Cars’ website states that deposits should be returned within 21 days, making the delay even more unacceptable.

I have repeatedly tried to contact VIP Cars regarding the outstanding money, but I am receiving no response. This is extremely frustrating after being given repeated assurances that the matter would be resolved.

The biggest issue for me is not simply the delay — it is the repeated promises and assurances that have not been followed through. I was told 24 hours, then one month, and the website says 21 days for the deposit. Yet I am still waiting almost two months later.

My advice to anyone booking through VIP Cars or Rental Cars UAE is to be extremely careful. Take photographs and videos of the vehicle before driving away, record the fuel level and condition, and keep all correspondence and promises made by staff.

Overall, a very disappointing experience from start to finish — receiving a different vehicle in poor condition, being given assurances that were not honoured, waiting almost two months for money that is still outstanding, and now struggling to even get a response.

I expected much better service and accountability.

Bad experience - must avoid

I booked through a third-party rental comparison site, and while the price looked attractive, the actual experience was extremely the worst.

I had to travel 15 km to a different pickup location as agreed, then waited over an hour despite multiple calls that went unanswered. Eventually, I had to travel another 15 km back to a separate location just to collect the car. At drop-off, there was another long wait for someone to come collect the vehicle at Sharjah Airport by which I had to leave the car in the parking lot.

After seeing the 1-star reviews on Trustpilot and also being unrated by Trustpilot due to fake reviews, I got worried about getting my deposit back and assumed I'd end up a victim too. I started following up early, and sure enough, customer service was extremely poor, unprofessional and untrained staff. Even the complaints team came across as defensive and took the comlaint so personally. After several attempts, I did eventually get my deposit back, which is the only reason I'm giving one extra star. Otherwise, this company doesn't deserve even one star, they clearly don't know how to treat their customers and show no real interest in retaining customers.

Lesson learnt and my advice: Avoid them at all costs. Don't be tempted by the low prices, you'll end up paying more for it in stress and anxiety instead. There are hundreds of reputed rental companies, chose the best not the cheapest.

Worst rental experience ever. They showed a premium car in photos but delivered an old damaged vehicle, which completely ruined my image in front of my office client.

They took my AED 1500 deposit instantly, and now I’m still chasing them for the refund with no proper response. Feels less like a rental company and more like a money theft business.

Highly dishonest and unprofessional. Avoid them unless you want your money and time stolen.

Worst rental experience I’ve ever had. I booked a premium sedan weeks in advance, but at pickup they dumped an old basic hatchback on me and acted like it was completely normal. The staff was arrogant, careless, and clearly had no idea how to handle customers professionally. Every person gave a different excuse, and nobody took responsibility for anything.

They had no problem instantly charging my AED 3500 security deposit, but after returning the car, getting the refund became a nightmare. It has been over two months of nonstop follow-ups, ignored calls, fake promises, and zero accountability. Every time I contacted them, I was told to “wait a few more days,” yet nothing ever happened.

What kind of company takes payments immediately but makes customers run behind them for weeks just to get their own money back? Forcing customers to collect refund cheques manually from the office in 2026 is beyond ridiculous.

This company operates in a completely unethical and unprofessional manner. Avoid them at all costs unless you want stress, wasted time, and your money trapped indefinitely.

Scammers. They operate under multiple names.

They took a 2500 AED deposit (~$680) and still haven’t refunded it after more than 2 months. They seem to just hope you forget about it — and when you follow up, you barely get a response

They pick you up from the airport and take you to another location 15 mins away, Then you have to wait again for paperwork, and they try to charge you extra — took about 2.5 hours just to get the car. then i have to buy an old USB cable to get car play working since it old and doesn't have the wireless option - during rental they send an email saying if you late by one hour you will enroll in 3 days mandatory extension with double original price.

They also added me to a WhatsApp group with other people and shared my documents there, which is completely inappropriate.

The car itself was an old, cheap Chinese MG vehicle with visible damage all over not what was in the offer Mazda CX-5 - they said that they only available option.

Very bad experience overall. Avoid at all costs.

The experience with renting and returning the car was good, and I gave the company five stars for that, but a month and a half after the return, I still struggle to receive my deposit. The process is ridiculous. They ask me to send an email with all details. I did it. Nothing has happened. Then I write on WhatsApp to ask what’s going on. They ask me to provide a screenshot from the mail. I did it. Then again, nothing. After a few days, I ask them again. Again, they ask me for some confirmations about the bank details, confirming my name a few times, then the right plate numbers of the car I rented, and so on and so on. Still trying to get my money back. Until this moment, I can’t guess when or if I will be refunded.

I booked a car from them and the process was very smooth and professional, car was delivered to me, in a clean condition, and the staff were helpful and professional.

Today's car was delivered almost sharp on time. Car is clean. The driver Suhiel is supportive.
