We understand that recent media coverage, including the article in The Telegraph, has raised questions about the work of the British Red Cross Family Tracing and Reunion teams. We appreciate the opportunity to clarify our role and approach.

As a neutral humanitarian organisation, the British Red Cross supports people in crisis, regardless of their background or how they arrived in the UK. Our Family Reunion work helps refugees, who have been forced to flee their homes due to conflict, persecution or disaster, to reunite with close family members such as partners and children under 18. This is done in line with UK law and international obligations.

Eligibility and process: Only those granted refugee status by the Home Office can apply for family reunion visas. The scheme is tightly regulated, and many applicants face legal, financial or logistical barriers.

Costs: Applicants must cover all associated costs, including visa fees, legal support and travel. The British Red Cross provides limited financial assistance in fewer than 5% of cases, and only where families are particularly vulnerable.

Scope of support: We do not fund regular flights or facilitate large-scale travel. Our support is targeted and compassionate—often helping parents reunite with young children after long and traumatic separations.

I recently attended a three-day first aid course

I recently attended a three-day first aid course in Egham, led by Scott Pullen and partially delivered by Amy Hughes, and it was an outstanding experience. Their engaging and dynamic teaching styles made the content accessible and easy to retain.

Scott’s deep expertise, combined with hands-on practice and real-life scenarios, helped reinforce key concepts and build practical confidence. Both Scott and Amy were approachable, encouraged questions, and created a supportive learning environment throughout.

The course was well-structured and covered a broad range of essential topics. I left feeling confident, empowered, and far better prepared to handle first aid situations.

A big thank you to Scott and Amy for delivering such a high-quality course—I highly recommend it to anyone looking to build their first aid skills.

Fantastic Trainer Steve

Our event was 1318349 led by trainer Steve. He was wonderful. Everyone was so attentive as he paced the learning sessions and theory well with a good balance. 10/10 experience with Steve.

"Exceptional First Aid Training Experience with Donna!"

I recently had the pleasure of attending a first aid training session led by Donna from the Red Cross, and I couldn’t be more impressed. Donna is an outstanding trainer who brings both passion and expertise to the classroom. Her teaching style is engaging and interactive, making complex concepts easy to understand.

What truly stood out was her patience and dedication. She ensured that every participant felt comfortable and confident in applying the skills we learned. Donna’s real-life examples and hands-on approach made the training incredibly practical and memorable.

Not only did I gain valuable knowledge, but I also left feeling empowered to act in emergency situations. I highly recommend Donna to anyone looking for top-notch first aid training. Her professionalism, enthusiasm, and genuine care for her students are truly commendable.

Donna is an amazing instructor

Donna was an amazing instructor!

I really enjoyed her course, she was so informative, educational and amazing with how she was explaining everything. She took her time, went through different ways of learning, gave us a mixture of practical and theory and was honestly very engaging. Donna made the class enjoyable and fun! I loved the training content, and am definitely going to check out other courses I can do here.

First aid at work

The training was very informative and taught at a pace that helped me to remember what I have learned. Donna is an excellent trainer. I have done many first aid trainings in the past but the pace, delivery and information helped me leave the course confident in my knowledge
