Problem with Q1-PRO printer

I bought a Q1-PRO printer. It's excellent value for the money, although it needs some minor tweaks, as described in the official wiki. I had a breakdown during use, and one of the electrical boards broke. I contacted support, and Eleanor solved the problem by sending new parts and providing a video on how to replace them. Excellent service! Everything works perfectly now. Thanks to QIDI and Eleanor.

Constant jam ups

Constant jam ups, and Byrd nests. Poorly design spool driver with only one 3-D printed TPU type bushing on the right side causes serious binding and shuttering when it does occasionally get traction. Most of the time it just ejects the filament without moving the spool and causes tangles.
Also, does not support filament drying while printing as advertised.. No filament release button when filament jams inside AMS unit.

I enjoy solving problems, but there’s very little that can be modified to fix these problems.

For context- This was bought for a QIDI +4 printer which I’ve had constant problems with, mainly with the leveling system, especially with high temperature filaments. I figured Work around for some of the issues, but the machine is extremely troublesome and time-consuming to get to work properly.. QIDI has worked with me and has given me many new parts, including new plates and nozzles that were destroyed by the machine, however, it’s clear it’s a design issue because none of the new parts (peso sensors and leveling circuitry) make any difference. Though, having an excuse to tear the machine apart and put it back together, (kind of fun).

I purchased the QIDI box, hoping it would solve some of software crashes it regularly has and G code anomalies, which stopped the machine for no apparent reason after it’s insanely long pre-print prep. THIS IS THE ONLY MACHINE OUT OF 6 PRINTERS that I have these issues with. So I’m certain it’s not operator error and still hope that a future update may fix the issues.

FYI
I put a heat shield over the leveling circuitry and installed a small fan at the bottom of the printer. Aimed at the leveling circuitry and that has stopped the plate crashes. And I watch the G code when it’s going through its very long pre-print routine. If there’s more than one or two retries on the leveling probe G code, I turn the machine off and start over… If there are no retries while the leveling probe is running, you will usually get a good print.
Oh, and don’t even bother with the Z offset you’ll drive yourself insane. I learned to set it manually once a print started, and as long as you’re not doing high temperature filament it will usually stay about the same.

So yes, it was a gamble for me to buy this QIDI box after all these issues and it looks like I lost again. If your new to 3-D printing, buy a bamboo, they work. Im not giving up on QIDI, but right now their price points don’t justify the frustration, And since this is not the first AMS ever design, there’s really no excuse for such foolish design flaws.

The Qidi Q2 printer has been great

The Qidi Q2 printer has been great!
Received it in 3 days, and got it set up in less than an hour.
I’ve already run several spools of filament thru it and the only 2 fails have been because of me. The 20+ other prints have been perfect!
Very happy! Highly recommended!

Qidi service is the ultimate experience

Qidi service is the ultimate experience in customer service, I have bought a Qidi Plus4 6 months ago, being a first time user, I must have been one of the most demanding customer they ever had. At every step of my learning these folks have helped me navigate and learn without hesitation.
Today I am also a Max4 user and both of my printers have been running non-stop thanks to their support.

Excellent service at a distance!

I’m not really sure where the US office is, but their responses took 24 hours or less on typical work days. They are thorough, polite and helpful! I still need to send them a few emails to help with a project, but Alan has been great!

Packaging was horrible

Packaging was horrible. It looked liked someone was trying to smuggle something into the country.
Filament boxes had so much tape I had to cut every lid open on all 3 sides.
I hope Filament is worth it.

Know what you're doing

I want to start by saying that this printer is very capable in many ways. I’m not trying to put Qidi down—I’m aiming to give a realistic picture. I've deducted one star because of the behaviours of my printer that I talk about and another because of what I have to say about Qidi support.

I purchased the Plus 4 along with the Qidi Box. It is capable of printing a wide range of engineering filaments, and the Qidi implementation of Klipper makes it more usable than many comparable machines. Combine that with the Qidi Studio software, a branch of Orcaslicer, and you have a lot of capability.

However, my experience suggests the product and its ecosystem are still immature. My overall impression is that it hasn’t had enough real-world user testing yet, which is why I would summarise this printer as: “Know what you’re doing.”

I already had experience stripping down, rebuilding, and modifying 3D printers, as well as working with firmware and slicers. Without that background, I would have struggled to get consistent results.

A significant number of print attempts fail, for a variety of reasons: intermittent connectivity issues, false filament detection errors, communication problems with MCU boards, and the Qidi Box occasionally appearing disconnected. Resolving these issues often involves power cycling or manual troubleshooting.

If you are not comfortable with 3D printer mechanics, electronics, and slicer tuning, this can become frustrating very quickly. If you do have that experience, you can usually work through the issues—but it takes time and patience.

Support has been a particular challenge in my experience, and this is worth understanding in more detail.

Responses have often focused on only part of the query rather than the full context. For example, I contacted support to confirm whether a replacement toolhead board was correct. They confirmed that it was, but did not address the additional information I provided—that the board revision differed from the original, and that when installed it caused the hotend to power on continuously and heat uncontrollably.

I followed up with that information, and the guidance I received was to disconnect the hotend. Doing so caused an error, and when I reported that, I was then advised to reconnect it. This resulted in a loop of contradictory instructions without resolving the underlying issue.

Experiences like this made troubleshooting slower and more difficult than it needed to be, as it was often necessary to rely on independent investigation rather than support guidance.

That said, it’s important to consider price and positioning. Comparable printers with similar capabilities are significantly more expensive. In that context, the Plus 4 offers strong hardware for the cost.

In summary: when it works, it’s an excellent machine. However, you should expect to rely heavily on your own technical ability rather than support. If you are experienced and willing to troubleshoot, it can be a very capable tool. If not, it may prove challenging.

Great 3D Printers, great service, great people

Dealing with Qidi is a great experience. It is customer service and guaranteed satisfaction the way it should be.
It doesn't matter what it is, I receive it in a couple of days, and I live in the centre of NSW.
It was exactly the same for my Plus 4 printer, the Qidi Box and lately for Silicone wiper pads and PEI sheets.
If you have a problem, contact them and they'll fall over backwards to help you.
I seriously advise everyone that is interested in 3D printing to go to Qidi, you won't get better service anywhere.
The only problem I have with them is, how do you pronounce Qidi?

Lost order From QIDI no help to find it

I placed an order with QIDI Tech for filament and a new hot end. They shipped it by Amazon Shipping on March 17th and as of today (April 10th) it has not arrived. The last record via Tracking info was March 19th with no updates since then. Repeated contact to QIDI had resulted in only 1 email and that said "Be Patient". I know they didn't lose the package and eventually after several more emails to Qidi from me they finally sent a new shipment which arrived April 7th. The printer itself (the Q2 with Qidi Box) is working great. No complaints there. It's an excellent printer for the money.

cannot recommend (honest review): We have a QIDI Max 3 from QIDI directly. And it is funny because i now read the experience from another person also on the MAX 3 from a few days ago and i wonder if the MAX3 is not the best machine. I understand many people here have great experiences. I personally cannot share this, although i truly would love to. Here is my experience. It all started with the issue that the machine despite many (and trust me many) attempts to sufficiently correct the auto leveling of this brand new MAX3 did not work because the filament would not stick to the builder plate which comes with the machine (yes the original one!) Search in the internet indicates that that builder plate seems of poor quality / adhesion. I did so many attempts with re-aligning z-value adjustment, paper test etc, long story short, it was replaced with another one which had to be bought extra. Redid everything again, z-value etc. Now at least it somehow sticks but the bed is uneven. the next issue: what happened now is that when you print, the first layers are not perfect and no way to fix that because despite with autoleveling the machine seems just uneven. And when you press the home button it slammed the hot bed and the noozle into the plate. Wonderful!!!. Next issue is that an error message was coming up. I provided al lof this to QIDI. They even instructed me to make a video to do the homing. I told them this slams it into the plate but ok fine if the manufacturer asks you to do a video, so i did and on that video you can see how it slams it into the plate and switched it off. I mean i am requested to damage a new machine upon manufacturer request. Never have I ever experienced something like this. I asked for a refund or an update. I waste personal time (days and more) and money to fix a machin which clearly has issues. The responses were more tests, more pictures etc. For a machine which is less than 2 months old. So respectfully i do not know if these positive experiences are real or all AI generated but i clearly can say i actually have not gotten any solution from QIDI, rather only requests. I feel like i am beta tester for them. Last time I would EVER recommend buying QIDI. Still no solution at hand. Lets see what the next mail with request brings.

Qidi Q2 best bang for your buck....period

I made my decision on purchasing the Qidi Q2 after watching multiple YouTube reviews. This printer has all the bells and whistles at a reasonable price. I have printed many things with this printer and it performs exceptionally. This of course is if you use good filament and not some cheap off the wall brand.

X-Max 3 defective out of the box — 6 weeks of support, still broken

We purchased an X-Max 3 directly from QIDI's website for our company (Atala S.p.A., Italy). The printer arrived with a warped bed — 1.3mm tilt confirmed by 9x9 bed mesh probing.

After 6 weeks of back-and-forth with support, we have replaced: the induction sensor, the magnetic build plate, attempted manual leveling multiple times, and tried replacing the leveling screws. The threaded insert in the bed frame turned out to be stripped from the factory — the screw is now seized and cannot be removed.

On top of this, the nozzle crashed into the PEI plate multiple times during calibration attempts guided by their support, destroying one side of the build surface.

We also discovered a firmware bug: the G29 macro clears the bed mesh before every print, making calibration inconsistent. Other users have reported the same issue.

6 weeks later, we cannot print a single first layer. We have asked for a replacement or refund and are still waiting. As a business customer who purchased directly from QIDI, this level of quality and support is unacceptable.

Given the large size of the X-Max 3 build plate, it is possible that the issue was caused or worsened by rough handling during shipping. In some cases, the nuts beneath the heated bed can be manually adjusted to help compensate for tilt or misalignment.

Regarding the G29 macro: it is normal for this command to overwrite the existing mesh data, as it performs a fresh auto-leveling routine before each print.

Eleanor — a perfect example of engineering-first support

I've contacted QIDI support more than once, and every time I'm convinced — this is the most customer-oriented company I've ever dealt with.
The latest case: I accidentally broke a part on my printer (my own fault, completely). I wrote to support, not really expecting much. But Eleanor didn't just diagnose the issue quickly — she actually sent me a ready-to-print 3D model of the broken part! I printed it in a couple of hours, installed it, and the printer is working perfectly again.
It's rare to see support that genuinely wants to help instead of just sending generic replies. Eleanor is a true professional. Thank you!
