Informed PRS that our company details had changed so they set up a new account for us. Unfortunately they never cancelled the old one and it was passed to a debt collection agency who hassled us non stop. Very poor indeed. Minus stars would be a good choice here.

Shame you can't give zero stars. Avoid these people like the plague. Inflated charges, shameful attempts to overcharge you when you cancel your license claiming terms and conditions that do not actually exist anywhere with either enclosures that accompany agreements nor on their website. We've just signed up with Background Sounds (backgroundsounds.co.uk) - a fraction of the cost and ideal background music for a shop etc with a huge choice of playlists and music styles to choose from. Highly recommend Background Sounds but do yourself a favour and avoid PPL PRS.
Also interesting that in a call this morning I was told they would not have received an email I sent to them on 26/1/24 had not been received because "we don't use that email address anymore". The email address I used is quoted whenever they have replied to anyone below - as recently as 19/1/24...

So I got sued by PPL PRS, and I decided not to give up but fight them to the end. Anyway first thing what you do is to delay the legal process until there is no way to delay it further. Use Chat GPT to write all the responses, and demand strong evidence of your alleged wrong-doing. Also don’t agree with online hearing, demand it in person. Don’t hire any lawyers and don’t incur any additional cost. Then when you cant delay any further, provide a list of witnesses the more people the better, and present your case to the best of your circumstances, and at the end submit as your evidence all these negative reviews to show to the court how terrible this company is. Basically submit as evidence all these comments to show to the court that these people are scammers. Guess what? They will drop the case in the heartbeat. They are just a bunch of bullies and 100% fraud. They think that they hire some fancy lawyers to intimidate you but in the reality they are just bunch of losers. Don’t give up. Fight it!

This company has been trying to extort nearly £600 from me since November threatening me with court action bailiffs and ccjs for a license I don’t require.I’ve explained to them numerous times they have made a mistake they just don’t listen, I asked them for the video evidence they have and explained if you have it which is impossible then email it me and I will pay straight away, the video evidence they sent me is a shop I’ve never seen, awaiting response tomorrow, this is a criminal organisation

This company is so awful it’s unbelievable. I, like others, received my renewal AFTER the one months notice they say is needed to cancel. I emailed back the same day advising I no longer require a licence, some 39 days ago.
Today I receive an email for payment, so I call them up, and guess what? They are demanding that I pay because of this one months notice, not 30 days!
I have emailed again, and will await a response, but I won’t be holding my breath. They won’t be getting a single penny more out of me, con artists.

Same as everyone else says - dishonest con artists, avoid like the plague, they are only here to rip off. There is no service provided.
What is equally bad is the morals of the legal types they then use to enforce the wonderful terms of 'by paying, you sign up for life'*
*you can cancel 1 month in advance, but clearly we don't send you the invoice in time to afford you this option, so lets squeeze you for another year - and repeat...

We had a cold call regarding a license, we operate a very small florist within a former chapel, we agreed to a quote only but ended up with an invoice and a license number plus T&C`s, I immediately rang back to find out what was going on, was promised a return call but nothing.
Absolutely disgusting behaviour, I think all of the above complaints would like to know which watchdog licenses you, Ofcom? or Who?.
I am now having to write this and other emails to get this Scam Company off my back, as if I`m not busy enough.

After perusing several reviews, I must confess that while I understand some of the concerns, a quick resolution was achieved through a straightforward conversation and common sense.

Scumbags. Stay clear of this scumbag company. Renewed my license without asking me first. To cancel subscription need to give at least 1 month notice before end of the license year. Guess what. Got an email 2 days after the deadline. Deliberately waiting until deadline passes and then charges for another year in front. Paid my fees and told them to cancel it... 11 months in advance.
Send me another letter asking for payment, you pri.ks, and I will drag your scummy asses to court.

My business paid regularly an amount but this year (without telling us) the amount went up 10x with no notification or justification and they claimed this on Direct Debit.
Luckily I spotted it, cancelled it and queried.
Following numerous emails they still cannot justify why and continue to send threatening letters for the increased amount.
I can't work out if this is a SCAM or a ripoff extortion type of a company but either way, avoid like the proverbial plague.
EDIT - The reply says ‘sorry and please contact us. Do you seriously think I haven’t tried. On my 3rd email with no response so eventually went to the CEO.
Got a ‘standard’ holding email and of course nothing has transpired. Pathetic attempt of a company.

AGGRESSIVE, HORRIBLE COMPANY
I received a phone call a few months ago from PPL, we had just moved into a new unit and didn't have a radio at the time but planned to get one. I explained this to them - and also clearly stated we would not be listening to streamed music so only required license for radio. They issued invoice charging me incorrectly; date was back dated to before we started using radio and license was for both radio and streamed music. I have phoned several times and emailed to get correct invoice but without success. The only thing they seem to be good at is hounding their customers for payment, I must receive at least one email / letter threatening debt collection / legal action per day and have done for 4 weeks, Very aggressive, bullying tactics - never come across a company so bad. I am also shocked that they have over 300 reviews - 97% of which are 1 star. How are they allowed to continue???????

I’m with with everyone else on here.
This company is a disgrace and should be utterly ashamed of themselves.
I have been dealing with issues for over 2.5 months now and each time I get a promise of what will happen and it doesn’t. Then I get another escalation email threatening legal action etc . I ring again and get made a whole load more promises of it being looked into and resolved one way or another and yet again it isn’t.
Eventually the issue is seemingly resolved after numerous more phone calls and i receive an e mail to assure me that I can ignore further correspondence.
But you’ve guessed it …it isn’t! Now I have a debt collector phoning my business and leaving messages with my staff to chase money I dont even owe!!! And when I phone them to make a formal complaint then suddenly there is no manager or senior member of staff able to speak to me and I just am expected to wait another 28 days.
I am a sole trader- I rely on reputation and good character and you are calling my place of business and threatening that.
I am at my wits end on how to end this nightmare and so fearful of what is going to happen next.

Every year I have the same issue with this company. Repeated last format as last year. Totally shoddy and unprofessional performance for a company.

I have been paying for my music licence monthly for the last three months, yet kept receiving emails chasing payment! The customer services ensured me that these emails would stop, but they didn’t. I’ve now recieved a letter in the post from a DEBT COLLECTORS threatening legal actual, damage to my credit file AND a CCJ for payments that I HAVE MADE!! I am absolutely disgusted with this company, I was hesitant about signing up with them and this completely validates my concerns!
I need this resolving ASAP!!!
Someone from the customers services team needs to respond to me emails!!!!!

As with everyone else they are an awful company. I was selling my business so I didn't renew as I was at the end of my term I cancelled my direct debit so they couldn't take further payments.
I have had the standard threatening letters, I didn't give a months notice- why would I need to? This is a licence for playing music- no music no license needed.
No need for a months notice as they aren't providing a service.
Its just a scam how they can possibly pay the artists when one is playing the radio who already pay the artists.

I cancelled my account and paid for 1 months notice to terminate. The young lady on the phone was most helpful when I explained that the price of over £900 was too high an I wouldn't be therefore playing any music in my establishment as I only had 12 tables in the music playing area and we are only open for 6 hours per day.
After this phone I received several emails demanding payment of the balance of over £800 and despite several phone calls to I was told this would stop and my account was closed
I have now had a final reminder threating legal action

Called to enquire about Music Licence at some of our locations, never confirmed we wanted these licences as we were undergoing a full review of our sites and have confirmed on more than one occasion that as a small charitable not for profit organisation we would be back in touch once this has been done. All we have received is constant threat of obtaining the associated fees - do not work with this organisation, stay away. Whilst we work to try and support vulnerable and elderly residents, this lot just want your money - shameful.

I called to escalate my case at 16:29 on Thursday 22nd of November. I spoke to a man who I would describe as unnecessarily confrontational and argumentative, who I was eventually able to get to escalate my case to the complaints department. I was told that I would be contacted within three days by telephone, and I expressed that Monday would be a good day for a call since it’s the only time I have away from work.
On Friday at 2:16am I received an email with an additional surcharge for late payment added to my account, despite the fact that I had already opened a dispute with the company. No human action had been taking to ensure that my account had been updated, and instead caused a severe surge in anxiety. I now have to worry all weekend that PPL PRS are going to keep adding fines despite the fact I’ve opened a case and am awaiting a phone call.
The communication by this company has been terrible at best. I was told by staff members that they could see I tried to send an email to inform them of cancellation of my license so they just needed a screenshot to help close my account.
The person I spoke to on my original phone call was also confused by this comment made, but was very unhelpful in shedding any light on this confusing piece of information.
As a small business no longer in need of PRS/PPL, and who has not used PRS music for months due to swapping to a much preferred royalty free lofi, I find their forced renewal and huge fees of £230 plus this “late payment” fee of £104 utterly barbaric given the situation.
I was not informed over the telephone that more emails and more money would keep being requested whilst I wait for the complaints procedure to take place, and now I seem to be stuck with over £330 to pay.
Extremely poor and incredibly distressing, this company has absolutely no understanding or care for anyone, and is purely focussed on exploiting small businesses for every penny they’re worth. It really is disgusting and shameless behaviour.
I’m so worried for my mental health and am not sure what I’ll do if this continues. I’m struggling to cope already and this feels like the final straw.
Thank you for destroying what’s left of my mental health.
