Review for POR-15 Chassis Black Paint

I recently used POR-15 Chassis Black and initially encountered a major issue—an overly glossy, uneven finish that didn’t match the intended satin black look. After reaching out to POR-15’s support team and receiving a dismissive response, I decided to investigate further.

Through research, I discovered that the high solids content in POR-15 settles into a dense, hardened layer at the bottom of the can over time. This is not obvious at first glance, and even routine stirring may not be enough to properly mix the paint. Only after spending 10+ minutes vigorously stirring and breaking up the sediment did the paint apply correctly, leveling out to the proper satin finish.

Issues With POR-15’s Instructions & Support
1. No warning on the can about the extreme settling of pigments or the need for thorough stirring beyond the usual.
2. Customer support failed to acknowledge the issue, despite photos clearly showing an incorrect finish.
3. Wasted time and effort—I had to completely redo the job after initially applying improperly mixed paint.

Final Thoughts

POR-15 can be a great product when applied correctly, but the lack of proper instructions leads to unnecessary frustration and rework. Had their label clearly stated this issue, I and many others could have avoided a poor application and wasted labor.

Until POR-15 updates their instructions and customer service approach, I cannot fully recommend this product to others. Be prepared to stir aggressively for an extended period or risk a subpar finish.

Their Canada distributor is atrocious and they company speaks highly of him and refuses to do anything given that he doesn't answer the phone, reply to emails, process refunds, or operate an ethical business.

Currently restoring a 1975 Honda brought some por15 to seal the fuel tank. followed the instructions meticulously drying the tank out fully between processors. Final coating left for two weeks to cure had a look today inside the tank from what I can see it is peeling away from the sides of the tank. no point in putting any fuel in it so it has been a complete waste of time and money.

The tank had not been previously sealed with any sort of sealant prior to using por-15. Followed the instructions meticulously using your cleaner degreaser, metal prep, fuel tank sealer, making sure the tank was dry inbetween each process. Emailed (support products) like you asked but just ignored.
So your support is like your product not fit for purpose.

These guys pulled out the stops from late Wed (afterhours) to ensure it was in my hand in AKL by Friday morning with a chocolate fish - what you need! POR-15 is a great product. Been using 12+ years. Follow the instructions and don't cut corners :)

I have been using several of the products and have to say they are the best. I used to paint my mower deck every 2 years with the best paint I could find. Yet every fall I would pull the deck off to clean it for storage and every time the paint was badly chipped. The first product I used was the POR 15, to my surprise when I pulled the deck there was not a single chip. Since then I have been also using the 4K on all my equipment because I found out was even more protective. If want to do a job once and be done....this company has the right products. In addition, when I had technical questions the customer service was very friendly and provided solutions. While it’s a little expensive, it’s way cheaper then having to do it twice ...not to mention the amount of time I save.
