Mentoring
I treated myself to some mentoring from Lucy. She’s great at imparting understanding and enthusiasm. Lucy and Ed are generous and great mentors. I can’t recommend Old Mill Arts enough.

Workshops in making hand made art materials and small-batch high quality art materials. Foraged and grown. Exploring traditional and heritage crafts. We believe that through these practices, a stronger connection to making art and and crafts can be achieved, giving a richer and more satisfying experience of creativity. We share these crafts knowing that these old ways are better for the planet, and for mental and even physical health. Not only great fun, these crafts link into a worldwide web of creative ways, reconnecting us as creative beings, to each other and the world around us. Or mission is to reconnect people with the world around them, through the crafts of making creative materials, and through experiencing our handmade small-batch art materials. We stand by the creative potential of these crafts and we want these practices to be recognised as an important part of the life of the creative beings that humans are. Our motto, 'Always sustainable, always high quality, always together', helps guide our work and are principles for reconnecting to our planet and each other.

Lucy and Ed are experienced and knowledgeable. I really enjoyed learning a full picture (that which can be touched on in a single day) introducing these plant extracts. Really enjoyed the day at Logie steading, a birthday gift from friends.

Lucy and Edward and medical herbalist Sarah -Jane provided a wonderful opportunity to delve deeply into so many aspects of our relationship with hawthorn over a whole weekend. Art , folk tales , medicine , music, wellbeing, history and our own personal relationships with the tree. It was a really lovely experience and I was so happy to see a full room to celebrate this special tree for part of their Trysting Trees project . I am looking forward a great deal to the next opportunity to work with them!

Wonderful connection with nature and art! Lots of interesting information was gained from the workshop leaving me inspired to go home and try making some more inks. This was a really lovely way to spend a day.
Being a novice and not chemistry focused, I connected hugely with this class from Edward and Lucy! The mix of new learning with practical explanation and five senses experience was so mesmerising. Shifting my life to explore holistic wellbeing, while renewing an old interest in botanical drawing, I love the natural and ecological focus of creating a palette of my own to paint botanics with botanics!! Thank you both!
Edward and Lucy have an extensive range of courses and workshops for many aspects of art. They cover the source of pigments from earth and plants, and teach us how to make paint, ink and pastels using natural methods. Yesterday's workshop was on making inks and watercolour paints from plants including daffodil and gorse flowers, and willow bark. We also had use of charcoal from gorse, willow and the hemlock tree, worked with Indian indigo, learned how to make reed pens, use tree resin binders, and the importance of pH levels. Lucy and Edward are not only enthusiastic teachers, they are also very generous with their time and in sharing their extensive knowledge. I have taken part in many of their workshops and look forward to more, so I can highly recommend them to anyone interested in learning how to make their own art materials, and the history of them.
Exciting to see how plain old plants make such fantastic colour! Edward and Lucy are marvellous. Hoping to do more!
Oh my goodness what an AMAZING 2 days with Edward and Lucy. They are both so knowledgeable and passionate about natural inks, paints and pastels and very willing to share their skills.
The 2 days were informative, jam packed, but not so much that is was too over whelming.
Perfectly paced and busy all the time, I am so excited to start using the things we made and continuing to explore this amazing topic.
Thank you both so much, I will definitely be back for another workshop in the future
