Extremely disappointing experience
Extremely disappointing experience – Unfulfilled promises, inhumane conditions, and illegal housing deductions
I am sharing my experience with NL Jobs so that prospective candidates know what to expect before signing a contract with them.
1. Deplorable living conditions and violation of Dutch labor standards
Upon arrival, I was placed in the accommodation initially agreed upon. However, after just 4 days, I was moved without prior notice to another location that was in a catastrophic state.
Aside from the indescribable filth and unbearable odor, the housing was infested with mice (both alive and dead). I sent clear video evidence to the agency showing mice running around the house, but their only response was that "it's not possible to move you right now, probably in about 4 weeks."
Total lack of security: I was not even provided with a key to lock the house. When I called support, I was bluntly told there was nothing they could do and that I had to wait until Monday. Naturally, no one ever came with a key. Absolute ignorance and carelessness.
Violation of Dutch Labor Law & SNF Standards: Under Dutch employment law and SNF housing regulations (Stichting Normering Flexwonen / ABU CAO), agencies are legally permitted to deduct housing fees from a temporary worker's salary only if the accommodation strictly meets legal hygiene, safety, and living standards. Deducting money from my wages for an unsanitary, doorless/unkeyable, and rodent-infested house is a clear violation of these rules.
2. Unmet agreements regarding work location
Before leaving, I explicitly told the recruiter that it was extremely important for me to have the workplace close to the accommodation, which they confirmed would be the case.
In reality, the commute to work took 1 hour and 30 minutes each way, wasting 3 hours daily just on travel.
3. Unsympathetic management and delayed response
As long as I was reporting serious issues regarding safety, hygiene, and housing, I was completely ignored.
The only time anyone from the agency showed a minimal interest and asked "how things were going" was only after I submitted my resignation.
Conclusion
A company that treats its employees with zero respect, illegally deducts housing fees for inhabitable living conditions, and completely disregards temporary workers' legal rights in the Netherlands. I strongly advise you to think twice before working with NL Jobs!
