Manager tried to extract extra money from me - AND sold me a CZ ring under the guise of labelling it as “diamond”.

Lately, I have been coming to this jewellers once per month. The past few years I have taken it upon myself to buy as much diamond jewellery I can, preferably diamonds that fluoresce. Most of the time, I “blind” buy diamond jewellery and just hope to find it fluoresces when I get home. I’ve come to this store about 8 times and each time I’ve bought only diamonds.
Last week, I came in with my partner and we bought a “tops and diamond ring”; one topaz in the middle and two tiny diamonds on the sides. I got back home and noticed inside the band, it has “CZ” stamped in! Considering the middle stone was topaz, this means the two “diamonds” were infact cubic zirconia!

I should have learned my lesson from that experience alone, but today, April 23rd I came in and fancied buying a diamond necklace. I saw a peridot and diamond necklace in the window and thought it would match a ring with peridot and diamonds I have (real diamonds! That I had bought from elsewhere!). So I ask the kind lady behind the counter for it, I have a look with a UV torch to see if there’s any fluorescence; one tiny tiny almost unseeable diamond on it shines blue - I don’t mind that the diamonds are so small, I just love that one fluoresces (and I suppose THIS TIME it means this diamond piece isn’t cubic zirconia!).
She goes to get the payment ready for me until the manager intercepts ; and upon hearing my excitement about the shining blue, he decides he wants to charge more for it. I overhear her say that “she (I) come here all the time”. Poor woman was expected to have me beg to pay extra for it.
No thanks!
So I leave and I’ll take my feverish diamond-searching custom elsewhere.

He markets some CZ as diamonds; and will attempt to fleece you if you’re too happy with the item.

I spoke to two other jewellers who also report similar complaints from him. Bad news to buy from here! I’ll not be buying diamonds, or anything else, from here again and I’ll ensure to update my fellow jewellery-fantastic to avoid.

in may i lost my wedding ring after wearing it for 31yrs went to newcastle jewelers to see if they had anything similar, they didnt so went for a new design but after 3months it never felt right and was slighty to big, so went back (with receipt) i got a full refund and the girl behind counter was realy helpful and patient with me until i found something which is also very much like my original band and fits perfect

Absolutely shocking customer service from the man who sits in the booth at the back. Went in to ask about a necklace in the window. Was then told it was overpriced as not hallmarked. When I asked to see proof of 18ct gold he then came out with the laser gun in his hand and said he could prove it but he wouldn’t. What a horrible experience and a nasty attitude. What is wrong with a customer wanting proof that the item they are buying is what it is. If the item is not hallmarked how else can I tell? Shocking level of service and completely unnecessary.

Really DISAPPOINTED with the service today. I took in some scrap gold 🪙 he told me the price through the woman. But I thought he was wrong, but he wasn't I was wrong, I added it up wrong. But he then just said no take it elsewhere. I've been going there for years and I told him I was wrong and apologized, but no because I said his price was wrong with a shop full of people he just said no take it somewhere else, really DISAPPOINTED with the man with grey hair in the window who offered the right money, but wasn't happy because I questioned him. He just wasn't happy and said no. I won't be going there again now will take my business elsewhere, just like I said when I left. I've heard he can be a bit moany and looking at these reviews it shows he just picks and chooses who he will buy from. Good way to lose good customers. And he has lost one here.

I went to Newcastle Jewellery Co. last week to trade in some old gold items I’d had for years and no longer wear. I was amazed at the amount offered and also by the lovely service I received. The older gentleman other people have mentioned was absolutely charming when we chatted. I’d definitely return.

We have been coming here for years. This is the best jewellery shop ever. All the staff are pleasant, helpful and knowledgeable.

Extremely rude manager (Robert) with no customer skills and tried to rip me off. Would not recommend this business...

Where do I start, if I could give 0 I would happily do so,, went in to get a valuation of some 22kt gold coins that was left to me, the lady took them to Robert the owner for him to say he needed them removed out the mount to value them fairly which I agreed to, the coins come back to me black after being blown torched and given a price, when asked if this was his best price I was told take your gold I don't want your custom or gold and told I don't care who are what you are ya not welcome back in the shop all for just askin if it was his best price :/ I think the owner needs to retire as I think he is mentally unstable,, I took the coins to Newcastle Bullion and was offered nearly 500 more than his best in the North East price . Absolute joke of a jewellers

The lady assistants are very helpful but the man in the booth is a horrible piece of crap and speaks to you like he is doing you a favour and insults your jewellery and even though my items were pristine he only offered scrap value. I will be checking the items in his display window to observe if my gold are for sale and how much for. Beware before selling any good items you will be only offered scrap value. Horrible experience and will sell on eBay from now on.

Rude and offensive retailer. Did not want to buy my genuine items which i wanted to sell (I had proof of purchase and ownership of my items with me). The manager (male with a serious lack of manners) who assesses items stated that he did not wish to buy from me without offering any reason or explanation whatsoever. Flatly refused. Shameful conduct and discriminatory behaviour. Of-course, I gladly went elsewhere and sold my items. And in the process discovered that this company was offering a much lower price per gram compared to other traders. So be aware.

After years and years of sending business their way to get treated like the dirt off bottom of your shoe. If you have a large quantity of gold and silver you don't get the full amount as they rip you off. Better service received at Frank faglemans on Clayton street

Went last week with a ring he told me it wasn’t gold .this week went back he said it was 9 carat gold when it was 14 offered £78 .went to another jewellers got £120 he is a rip off merchant and you never get a receipt beware of this shop you definitely don’t get the best price from here

Simply as good as it gets. I have dealt with them a number of times and have always been very happy. They beat the opposition hands down regarding scrap gold prices... and prices for second hand jewellery are very competitive. Based on my experience, I just wouldn't consider going elsewhere

My husband and I visited the shop on Saturday. My husband bought me an eternity ring for Valentines Day. The staff really looked after us and nothing was too much bother. They were lovely.
I can thoroughly recommend this shop.
