Unscrupulous & unskilled - don’t hire
TLDR: not skilled; not honest. This company employs dishonest, unscrupulous technicians, and fully stands behind them even after the lies come to light.
Plumbing technician Lovepreet came out to assess and repair issues with 2 showers. He spent time supposedly repairing the first shower, and after that informed me that the shower could not be used because it had been leaking into the wall, such that the shower surround and flooring needed to be replaced. I was not happy that he had proceeded to repair something that was unusable, but that isn't even my main issue.
The second shower was not getting any cold water, only hot. He diagnosed a problem with the valve. He was very clear that those valves cannot be repaired and that I needed to buy a new valve and trim kit. I pushed him on it, because that bathroom was slated for a reno and is rarely used. I wanted the valve repaired if at all possible. He insisted that it was not possible. I asked if the old trim could be recycled; he said no, I needed to throw it away. So i did. that was a mistake!
I felt like we had a reasonable rapport, so even though I noticed he was holding the clipboard & invoice strangely such that most of the info was covered and I couldn't see it, I trusted him and signed on the line. That was a bigger mistake!
1) He overbilled me, lying about what time he arrived.
2) He had, for no reason and unbeknowest to me, turned off the water to a third shower and left it off. When we went to use that shower later in the day, it suddenly didn't work.
3) when a different technician came to install the new valve, his first question was, "Don't you want me to just repair this valve?"
My jaw hit the floor. I had been specifically that there was no way to repair that kind of valve. I had been told to throw away the old trim. At this point, the only option was moving forward with the new valve and trim.
(I have no complaints about the 2nd technician.)
Customer service (Hanna) agreed that he had made "a mistake" on the billing. However, they claimed that I chose the option to replace, eventhough that was the only option I was presented with. They said that since I threw out the old trim, that was my responsibility, despite the fact that I threw it out based on the instructions of their technician.
They did adjust the hours billed to reflect the actual time on site, and then acted as though they were doing me a favour by doing so. I also got a small credit because he left me with no working shower.
Had the first technician been appropriately knowledgeable and honest, he would have just repaired the valve and made sure all the water was back on. I would have not incurred the hundreds of dollars of costs for a new valve and trim kit, nor the hundreds of dollars for the 2nd visit.
