In September 2024 I found myself facing potentially serious criminal charges following a tragic and traumatic incident at my home. I had never been in any significant trouble with the police, I am in my mid-60s and nearing retirement age after a distinguished career in my area of expertise.

I stupidly declined legal advice at the police station which potentially made my situation even worse than it needed to be. It was abundantly clear that I needed the best possible criminal defense team in my corner to face the likely charges which would arise. Having done some online research, including Trustpilot, Mary Monson Solicitors seemed the obvious place to start, given their unanimously positive online reviews. I sent a generic enquiry outlining the nature of my case, and I was delighted when Alex Chowdhury, who featured prominently in these reviews, called me within an hour to say that he would be pleased to take on my case Alex was insistent in making me aware of the financial implications for me if I were to work with him, as he himself would say he wouldn't claim to be the cheapest available but he would work hard
to ensure the best possible outcome in my case, without of course making any unrealistic promises. Alex was throughout open and friendly, and importantly non-judgmental in view of the less-than-salubrious nature of some aspects of the case.

It took the CPS nearly a year to bring charges, over this period of uncertainty, Alex was always a reassuring background presence, updating me regularly on anything he had gleaned from the Chief Investigating Officer. He was always careful to keep things realistic and make it clear that there were a range of outcome from "no further action" to a possible custodial sentence. Once the charges were brought, he explained clearly the implication of each and gave me his advice on how I should plead. He succeeded in having the potentially most serious one dropped due lack of any substance, and when it came to pleading and sentencing, recommended a barrister whose skill set was absolutely perfect in understanding some of the forensic complexities around the case. The whole incident was ultimately a horrible and tragic accident and ultimately due Alex and Emma's framing of my defense I believe that the judge saw it that way too, and my punishment in law was by general consent the most lenient I could have hoped for. The horror of that day will live with me for ever but at least it has not been added to by the trauma of time sent in prison. I have Alex and his excellent support team to thank for this.

"My experience with this solicitor was absolutely shocking. Communication was minimal from the very start; I tried to call, however, she never returned any calls. In fact, at the beginning, I was in another country trying to get in touch. However, once I returned home, I met with the solicitor only once in person throughout the entire eight months my brother was innocently remanded. Every time my brother phoned the office to speak to the solicitor, she was never present—always unavailable, either at lunch or too busy to take his calls. Despite this, she repeatedly told us not to worry, insisting my brother was innocent. Meanwhile, I spoke to my brother three times a day in prison, while he was told he had nothing to fear. The solicitor also relied on a trainee or PA for communication, but this trainee was never fully updated on my brother’s case, so they had no real understanding of what was happening. The solicitor was also aware that a co-defendant had inside access to CPS information, but she kept this from us until the very moment he was coerced into a guilty plea, despite being innocent. There was a complete lack of empathy and support throughout this entire ordeal. This failure caused devastating harm to my brother’s future and my family’s lives."

"I sought help from a solicitor after a workplace incident, confident in my innocence due to CCTV footage. Despite their reassurances, I was told not to worry, but no action was taken. I spent eight months in jail, including over Christmas, away from my children. The solicitor also failed to appear at arranged appointments, leaving me even more isolated.
