I contacted this company regarding an emergency plumbing issue after accidentally piercing a central heating pipe.

Before agreeing to the visit, I specifically asked about payment by card and was clearly told over the phone what the call-out fee would be. However, when the engineer arrived, the amount suddenly increased due to VAT being added, despite this not being made clear beforehand.

The engineer then quoted £289 per hour for the repair and stated the work would likely take over an hour, meaning the total would effectively exceed £500 for a relatively straightforward repair. This was significantly higher than quotes from other emergency plumbing services in London.

What made the experience particularly uncomfortable was that the engineer appeared unwilling to leave until payment for the call-out was made, all while rushing me, stating that I am wasting his time, and demanding to pay the higher fee than agreed, which felt extremely pressurising given the stressful situation.

I appreciate that emergency plumbing services cost more than standard call-outs, but transparency and professionalism are extremely important when customers are already distressed. I ultimately declined their service and used a trusted local plumber who completed the repair professionally for a far more reasonable price, the same day.

I would strongly advise others to confirm all charges, including VAT, in writing before agreeing to any visit.
