I agree with all of the other reviews! There are hidden fees. Bad customer service, they could not or would not answer specific questions relating to removal dates from the DMV. They did not tell me when I signed up with them that there is a $140 fee just for sending a removal request to the DMV. Do not use them or the Unitech auto shop on Fruitridge in Sacramento. Rip off artists. $80 for every calibration and $220 just to remove the device. They know they can up the charge because you are stuck. Both companies unpchanged you because of our mistake and once the device is on your vehicle you are stuck paying the price. Never use Low cost Interlock or Unitech smog shop! Do your research.

I would rate in negatives again if possible handset doesn't work half of time low cost has a violation charge for everything especially when there device drains your battery and you jump start it it costs you 108.00 dollars charged to your card got a service recall message a week ago I called low cost they said go back to garage got to garage my account was flagged they could not do any thing called low cost they gave me the run around for 2 hours I told them I want it uninstalled then they say I have to pay them 160.00 more plus 60.00 because it was in lock out just to get it uninstalled I called lifesaver if there is a violation for alcohol it is 25.00 if there is a violation for battery being dead no charge as long as you let them know and they are 50.00 cheaper a month and calibration is 20.00 cheaper a month I would rate low cost in negative stars but it won't let me I will be writing a review once a week about how bad this product is and I encourage others to do as well

They send me to a different interlock ignition that cost more. I called there customer service about my accident . So i need to removed my interlock. They told me to talk n called the dmv. I did. Then i called lowcostinterlock back to set an schedule to removed. They didnt even do anything about it. They just keep on telling me story n not knowing what to do. They need to retrained there customer services.

The worst company ever. They want your money and that’s it. The device will fail and some how it’s your fault. Costs an arm and leg dealing with there problems. Wish I would’ve just paid a little more for one/would’ve saved money probably
Horrible experience with this…
Horrible experience with this company!!! They have charged me a lockout fee twice due to their faulty equipment. I have only had their service for 4 months and I am on my third device. Equipment is cheap and if you ask me, they are made to fail, to collect more revenue. The support staff is rude and will hang up on you, and they are no help at all. You can never talk to a manager. There is no such thing as a refund even though it is their equipment that screws up. Do not use this company they will make you want to drink, I'M NOT JOKING!!! HORRIBLE company. All of them may suck but this one sucks also.

I had the interlock system put it. The day I went to pick up my car, the battery was dead. The mechanic charged it and I drove it around for a bit and tried to get the handset to work. I kept getting the message that my breath was out of range or some bs like that. The next day my battery was dead again. The mechanic let me know then, that this system does drain your battery. My battery isn't even 2 years old. Tried going to work and couldn't get out of the parking lot because the handset wouldn't work. "Breath sample out of range!" Over and over again. Finally got it to work and after work, battery was dead again. I went and had the unit un-installed within 4 days and this cruddy company will not refund the install. A bunch of shi**y customer service over seas working from home with kids and dogs in the background. I wish I would have read the reviews before. SCAM ARTISTS!

This deviceee sucksss, THE WORSTT!! I have no idea how they are even in service. Every single day I have to sit in my car blowing for atleast 10 minutes because it continues to say "Blow again" I have to disconnect and connect the device all the time. Not only that for recalls it tells you a date for recall then a before a week it is already telling you you have 5 days. My last recall date was set for February 13 and on January 22 it stated I had 5 days by Monday January 26 it was saying I had 2 days left to get a recall over a week of the date stated on the recall. When I tried calling to get it removed the representative I had was so rude. The first one I got was fine but the second guy was giving me a lot of attitude and was rude, wish I remembered his name. After 3 Months later of having it I get a text that they have my drivers license wrong. Like HOWWW??!! How did you pass on any information to the DMV then?
Stay away from Low Cost Interlock
I give them two stars and not one because everyone on their customer service line was pleasant. Yet, it can be frustrating navigating their automated system while in a pinch and your device is malfunctioning, which of course will not let you start your vehicle when it is no fault of your own. That being said, their devices are garbage and frequently malfunction, which according to them can be repaired at "no extra cost." Naturally, they don't factor in the cost of lost wages when you miss work or have to find alternative means of transportation for possibly many days and even you having to pay for your vehicle to be towed to a place to fix it or very high prices for mobile service. It's a nightmare waiting to happen and the question is not if, but when. Do your self a favor and research every single interlock company. Pay the higher price if it's better because you'll pay more in the long run for other hidden fees. Look at the paperwork as I'm fighting with another company now who wants me to sign a lease much longer than the State requires me to have an ignition interlock installed.
Bad service
I am writing to express my dissatisfaction with the ignition interlock services provided by your company. Unfortunately, my experience has been consistently negative and has caused unnecessary stress, inconvenience, and financial burden.
From the start, I encountered issues with the device itself, including frequent malfunctions, false readings, and repeated lockouts despite following all instructions correctly. These issues interfered with my ability to get to work and meet my personal responsibilities, which is unacceptable for a device that is required for legal compliance.
Additionally, customer service was unhelpful and difficult to reach. When I did speak with representatives, my concerns were often dismissed, and I was provided with unclear or conflicting information. Resolving even minor issues required excessive time and multiple calls.
The costs associated with the service were also excessive and not clearly explained upfront. Fees for maintenance, calibration, and lockouts added up quickly, often without proper justification or prior notice.
Overall, this experience has fallen far below reasonable expectations for a court-mandated service. I hope this feedback is taken seriously and used to improve both your equipment reliability and customer support. I would not recommend this company to others based on my experience.
Garbage device, terrible service
Garbage device has failed almost every time I start up my car and then makes me wait 5 minutes to do another test that says "perfect" & "pass". Almost non-existent customer service keeps you on hold for hours. Only went with them because they said they could install on my hybrid vehicle but then once the device was shipped to the installer I was told it was not compatible and had to put it on my other car. I'm currently shopping for a different interlock device to switch as soon as available. Not worth the "savings" they advertise.
It would take pages and pages to explain
It would take pages and pages to write all the problems I've had with low cost. After 25 months I had them take it out. Its not worth it. I have spent easily a week on the phone trying to work with them in solving whats wrong with their product/service. When is cold out especially 35F and colder; most of the time the initial test would fail then retake pass. I have a work van that has solvents in it. They told me I can't leave the device in that environment. ok so I start bring the device inside. I then start getting an early recall every 3 to 10 days for months on end. Keep calling ect. trying to figure out what the problem is. Finally I get the bs answer. They claim I'm unplugging it when the vehicle is running. I've never done that. Then I started waiting at least 20 min. before unplugging it. No change. Once I went to test first test fail retake pass did another initial test fail retake pass. They took the first and third test and claimed the third test (initial 2nd test) was the retake for the first test. Committed libel and reported it to dvs. So clock restarts 13 months gone. To me thats the complaint, no wait thats a crime; that really shows what this company is about. I regret even looking into lowcost. WHAT A WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY!

Held hostage and stranded.
Had the handset installed and it immediately killed my battery with in a few days. After hours of being on the phone, was able to replace the battery. 6 months go by and battery is dead again, and the technical support are threatening if it’s not done by a mechanic I will be charged with tampering.

This is the worst breathalzyer company. I am on a Facebook group about suing them because they are scamming people of there money. The device is fault and doesn’t know when my car is turned off and goes off whenever I’m not in there. Every time I have gotten a $75 lockout fee is from me not being in the car. When I ask for a new device or for them to look into it they just blame me for not following the 2 min wait after getting out of my car but I do wait and still get the fees added. I have asked them to send over my logs to my lawyer, they charged me $25 and still didn’t send them over. I also need a new water pump and belt on my car and they said I can’t get my car worked on while the device is in because I will need to blow in it and they can’t put a work order in even after I put it on their app. I have put in multiple complaints to their email but I never hear back and asked to talk to a supervisor and they get rude and disrespectful then hang up the phone. At this point I’m not sure what to do because I can’t afford to pay a fee every 2 weeks because of their faulty devices and them scamming people out of their money.

Terrible For 18 Months
Terrvible experience. Had to switch the device out 3 different times because they were all faulty. I’ve paid over $300 in unlock codes due to their malfunctioning. I lost my job because the units were so faulty that my car wouldn’t start for 30+ mins making me late everywhere. I’ve requested a removal date twice and they’re just letting the bill run up the tab. This type of treatment isn’t rehabilitation, it’s okay getting as much money from people as possible.

If I could give it a 0 I would. Won't fix or replace when broken. Won't answer phone. You leave a message. They don't call back for 2 weeks, even if your stranded because device has malfunctioned.
