Employee Owned But Doesn't Pay a Living Wage
As a long-time home baker, I’ve trusted King Arthur Flour for years, but unfortunately, the quality has noticeably declined. What was once a premium product has become increasingly inconsistent, making it difficult to rely on for precise baking. Their all-purpose flour now seems overly processed and lacks the rich texture and dependable performance it used to have. I’ve experienced uneven results in bread and pastry recipes that I’ve baked flawlessly for years—dense loaves, flat cakes, and disappointing textures.
Additionally, the flour tends to clump and absorb moisture too easily, even when stored properly, suggesting poor packaging or changes in milling. For a brand that charges a premium and prides itself on consistency, this is unacceptable.
While the marketing still emphasizes artisan values and a legacy of excellence, the reality feels more like cost-cutting and corner-cutting. I’ve since switched to other brands, mainly Bob's Red Mill, that are not only more affordable but offer far more reliable results.
Sadly, King Arthur no longer lives up to its reputation.
