Had a great time with Julian in the Dolomites. Julian knows all the right spots and works hard to put us at the right place in the right moment. I have two pictures on my wall that prove it! He took care of all the logistics for our group of 5 and our hotels were perfect. Do not hesitate if you have the opportunity to do a tour with him.

I joined Julian Elliott's Provence photography tour in late June and early July 2026, during an unusually early and intense heatwave across much of Europe, and would happily book another tour with him without hesitation.

The tour was timed around the lavender season, and the timing proved excellent. Despite the exceptional heat bringing the harvest forward by around two weeks that year, we were still able to visit and photograph numerous lavender fields before they were harvested. Julian also checked locations shortly before our visits, helping to avoid unpleasant surprises and ensuring that we made the most of the rapidly changing conditions.

The tour was very well organised from beginning to end. Pick-up and drop-off arrangements were easy and stress-free, and we always arrived at our locations with enough time to prepare and make the most of the light rather than rushing from one place to the next. The small group size also worked extremely well and meant that Julian was available throughout the shoots whenever someone wanted advice or feedback.

What I particularly appreciated was the flexibility of the itinerary. With temperatures reaching around 41°C during our week in Provence, Julian adapted the programme to the conditions rather than simply sticking to a predetermined schedule. Of course, I would have loved to spend more time exploring places such as Avignon, but in that heat I was very happy not to! He also arranged special early access to one location, allowing us to photograph before the crowds arrived.

Despite being a photography tour with early mornings and evening shoots, the schedule built in enough time to rest. We weren't expected to return at 1 a.m. only to be back on the road again at 4 a.m. Individual needs could also be accommodated easily without disrupting the rest of the group.

Photographically, Julian was always approachable and happy to give constructive feedback while we were shooting. He even trusted me with his precious tilt-shift lenses, which allowed me to try something different and get even more from some of the locations. I also appreciated that the photographic guidance was about photography itself rather than being used as an opportunity to sell presets or a particular processing style.

The practical side of the tour was equally well judged. Julian's fluent French was another real advantage throughout the trip, whether we needed help translating a menu or wanted to ask a market trader for permission to take a photograph. Lunch and dinner stops were at pleasant, reasonably priced restaurants – neither fast-food chains nor places where you felt you ought to change clothes before being allowed through the door. Travelling alone also didn't mean paying a single-room supplement or being relegated to the hotel's broom cupboard.

Overall, the tour offered very good value for a small-group photography trip. Julian combines excellent organisation and local preparation with flexibility, photographic knowledge and a genuine willingness to listen to his participants and learn from their experiences as well.

Would I book another photography tour with him? Absolutely – without hesitation.

Wonderfull tour, so much covered! Julian took our group to unforgettable places. The itinary was flexible, accomodation was good and the weather was taken into account. We could manage to get some terrific photos. Julian spent time with each of us, explaining how to get the best of photography.

I recently joined Julien Elliott's Vietnam and Cambodia photo tour, and it exceeded all expectations. Julien is incredibly prompt, helpful, and well-organized, ensuring everything runs smoothly from start to finish. He answers every query instantly and is super flexible—readily adapting to requests for different photography genres on the spot. His choice of locations was spot-on, offering stunning opportunities for landscapes, street shots, and more. I thoroughly enjoyed the entire experience and highly recommend Julien for any serious photographer!

This was the my first visit to Japan, a country which has always interested me (culture, landscape, food etc.). The tour was very well organized and Julian made sure that everyone was well taken care of. He was very accommodating to all our requests and took us to the best vantage points possible. He found a very friendly Japanese speaking driver, who would help us with translation questions and point out additional locations. We even had some kind of friendly competition with another tour, where one intended to arrive earlier than the other to secure the best spots. He is very knowledgeable about the sites as well as the photography related issues. I can recommend him wholeheartedly and have already registered for another tour with him for this year.

I attended Julian's Tuscany tour in May 2025. As always, Julian had deep experience in the area and had established great logistics for the tour. I was able to see a wide variety of landmarks and historical artifacts and came away with many treasured images.

Julian's familiarity with the region, his extensive knowledge and experience as a landscape photographer and his boundless energy and enthusiasm in pursuit of the best landscape photography opportunities was much appreciated and made pre-dawn starts almost something to look forward to!
I also valued his guidance with the interior and exterior architectural photography opportunities during the tour.
The accommodation near Pienza was very comfortable and in a very pleasant rural setting and the meals were always very satisfying.
Overall it was a most enjoyable and rewarding trip - many thanks Julian.

Travelling with Julian on the Tuscany photography tour was truly a memorable adventure! It was such a pleasure to interact with Julian everyday and listen to the information and technical support he was sharing — whether history of the country or his familiarity with the local culture.  We could tell he really enjoys what he does and was happy  to share stories about his family and growing up in the area. His historical and cultural knowledge were extremely helpful.. The lodgings we stayed at were extremely comfortable, with a warm and delicious breakfast served daily, at times earlier than originally planned at our updated requirements. His ability to locate areas for the perfect photograph and his assistance during photo shoots was extremely helpful and very much appreciated. Thank you Julian for introducing us to areas of Italy we might not otherwise visit. 

I joined Julian's photo workshop to Scotland highlands and Isle of Skye in January. It was very well organized, a perfect logistics, incredible spots. I learned from Julian’s advice on composition as well as new drone techniques which I’m using now. The weather was challenging during the week, and I appreciated how Julian was able to adjust depending on the weather conditions as well as the group requests. A very nice experience.

I was on the late October Dolomites tour in 2025. A wonderful week, with many images I am really pleased with. Julian’s knowledge of little known viewpoints and weather was really useful, such as the mist inversion gradually revealing a hill monastery. He is also very patient with forgetful people like me. Hotels, meals etc were excellent, and I forgive him the early mornings as the images were worth it.

Julian provided a carefully curated tour of what is effectively an open air museum. What you will create is a collection of photographs that are equal to the best stock photo site offerings. The experience is photographic muscle memory training. I would like to have followed him through the process of printing some of his digital negatives, unfortunately the trip's pace didn't leave the time.

Logistic: The vehicle (it was a 1,200 mile road trip) and more importantly the driver (Mia) were excellant. The hotels and food were consistently good and Julian's local knowledge, subways, etc. was up to the task. Price, reasonable.

What I could not have done for myself were the private entry experiences. Very much appreciated. Would I book with Julian again, the answer is yes.

I went to Julian's photo workshop to Scotland highlands and Isle of Skye in last January. It was a great trip both from photography standpoint and enjoyment in general. Julian has a very good knowledge of this area, which is a number one factor for me. We were able to get to the locations most suitable for the weather and time of the day, including some "secret" points only Julian knows about. Julian is very attentive for clients and always ready to go extra mile or stay on location for longer waiting for better light or weather conditions. He also keeps in mind places where to go when the weather is really bad (good restaurants or even local distillery - nice addition!).

My fall Dolomites photo tour was an absolute success! Everything came together perfectly — no hiccups, incredible scenery and a ton of “keepers” I didn't expect to capture. Julian’s deep knowledge of the region and his skill in choosing the right spots at just the right times made all the difference. His pre-scouted list of locations, matched so well to the ever-changing light and weather, was nothing short of impressive. In the Dolomites, flexibility is everything and Julian absolutely nailed it.
The accommodations were excellent: clean, comfortable rooms with desks perfect for editing, and at our first stop, even a washing machine and an unforgettable breakfasts that powered us through long days shooting.
What really made the trip special, though, was discovering those hidden, off-the-beaten-path locations that few photographers ever see. I came home with images that truly stand out. Julian’s confident driving through those narrow Italian mountain roads made the trips to those special places work out.
I’m so glad I went, and I’m already looking forward to joining Julian again in Tuscany next spring. Truly a job well done!

Dolomites photo tour October 2025
This was a great trip with Julian and 5 other like minded photographers. The landscape was stunning even if the weather made the trip rather challenging. However, Julian always found us something interesting to photograph and continously replanned our activities to get the most out of every day. He drove many miles in a continuous effort to get the best of any available light. The hotels were excellent, the transport was comfortable and all the restaurants he selected were perfect. It was a thoroughly enjoyable week thanks to the effort that Julian put in. Highly recommended!!!

We went on a tour of Uzbekistan with Julian in March 2025. He put together a very varied programme in terms of photography and culture. With his persistent manner, he gave us access to spots that would otherwise have remained closed to us. He helped me with my photography issues. Whenever I had a question, he always made time for me. I learnt a lot. All in all, it was an extremely good trip. Absolutely recommendable

I recently joined Julian Elliott's photography tour through the stunning Loire Valley and had an awesome time. Julian's incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about photography. He was able to provide personalised tips to enhance my photography skills which I see myself continuing to use in the future.

Itinerary was broad with chateaus, stunning architecture, vineyards, hidden spots, landscapes and charming villages including "beaux villages de France"

Julian went above and beyond to provide a memorable experience. He was constantly reviewing plans against the weather and time of day to ensure the best possible opportunity to capture landscapes in the best light and conditions. He did not hesitate to change plans to something more suitable if that was what was required.

Julian's not only a skilled photographer but also speaks french and is incredibly knowledgeable about the region, its history and culture from living in the area. This added depth to every location we visited and interactions with locals.

I left with new skills (including some french) and photos and memories i will cherish forever.

I went on the photo trip to Uzbekistan in March 2025. The photo and cultural experience was great. Julian was very helpful and attentive with educational opportunities to improve our photo skills. The trip was well organized. He hired a wonderful interpreter to be with us. He also hired tour guides at each location. He also arranged for locations for photos and people that no one else would be able to find. My goal, besides the cultural experience, was to have at least one competition worthy photo a day, but I have more than that. He knows his stuff, he is personable and accommodating and well organized and gets you to locations not accessible to anyone else. I plan on doing more trips with Julian.

I had been wanting to return to Japan after visiting there many years ago. There were a few “must do” things on my list, and since Julian’s trip checked all of those boxes, I decided to take a chance and him a try. Well, we did everything I could’ve wanted on a twelve day trip to Japan, and then some. We did pre-dawn visits to temples, photographed street scenes in the early evening and whole lot more in between. There was just so much variety, and it made for a rich experience. I’ll be traveling with Julian again for sure.

Just back from an enjoyable week with Julian in Glen Coe and Skye. He knew where to go, when to go, and made the most of every minute offered to us by the light and weather. The hotels were good, the company good, and the advice and knowledge offered by Julian nothing less than excellent. I'm looking forward to travelling with him again in Nov.

I joined Julian Elliott on a trip to Tuscany this past May. It was an excellent experience to photograph this beautiful landscape with Julian who is an outstanding professional photographer always providing great help with photography techniques and finding best spots for stunning images. I would highly recommend anyone to join his workshops and you will never be disappointed. This is my 2nd trip with him in last three years.
