Accusatory Customer Support
Took 20 days for them to ship. I was understanding at the delay and the actual ship time was fast, so that was good.
However, the order was missing a product (qty 2). I reached out to their support twice with no response. I tried a third time, and although I didn't do anything differently, this time they responded. They asked for multiple photos showing the package and all of the contents. You could see that the box was so full, there was no space for the missing products.
Despite this, they repeatedly asked me for more photos, even after I had already provided exactly what they requested. The issue was clearly about missing items, not damage, but they kept pushing for an irrelevant claims process with the shipper.
In the end, they denied my request entirely, stating that their internal packing records showed the order was correct. They were essentially implying that I was mistaken or straight up lying. They will NOT take any accountability for their mistake.
Very disappointing customer service. Now I'm stuck completing the chargeback process with my card provider. I'll certainly never order from them again.

I made a call and track it , it was still been held for commodity code , since don't want any delay , I did it on the website for my commodity code and goods released the next day and I just got it today. All I can say is Japanese taste is excellent , my dorayaki is perfect ! thank you

No, you cannot pick the freight method/company. So you will end up with Fedex or DHL who charges high fees for customs handling on top of the customs fee.
They do offer free shipping if you purchase over a certain amount but their prices are a bit hiked up compare to prices in physical shops in Japan so I would say the shipping is already baked into their sales price.
So if you cannot find the stuff you want anywhere else, if you don't care about your money or time, then use their service. Japanese Taste provide a service because after you've placed your order, they will go out and procure the items, pack them in carefully and send it to you in the way that they can make sure that you get your stuff.

I'm very disappointed of customer service experience - there is nobody to tack to - no what's up or live chat, mail only. I had some issue with my purchase , because f tax issues I asked to return the parcel , the sent me a 1 email on Dec 26 to respond till 30. No reminders were sent - nothing. Following chrismas vacation I checked the mail only on Jan - and when I asked for refund (that they should have done automatically) the responded that I should reply to the mail as a condition for refund. - the communication is very bad, customer experience - the worst that I ever had - will never ever buy from them.
Hidden additional VAT - Avoid this company at all costs
The most unprofessional and dishonest company I had ever been in contact with. I already paid the VAT at checkout, but now FEDEX informed me I need to pay 20 pounds extra! When I contacted Japanese Taste about this, they said it can happen and that they will not be refunding my order if I refuse to pay additional charges for the package. They now expect me to pay more for taxes and delivery than the actual price of the things I ordered, which are already 50% more expensive than in Japan.
Expired Products for Sale without Refund
They have a lot of cool stuff, but their customer service is the worst I have experienced in any retail. I had purchased 6 boxes of green tea cookies and they arrived with a BB date of seven days from receipt date. I contacted customer service and they told ne those cookies have a shelf life of about a week (coincidentally) and refuses a refund/compensation. This is a complete lie because I had purchased these same cookies two other times with BB of about three months from receipt. They price gouge too much to be selling people old products, and proceed to lie about it. I guess I got lucky the other times, but now I know what they truly are.

I purchased from them but never received my package. FedEx confirmed they lost the package and refunded them but they are refusing to refund me.

Total scam one month later still no products
Total scam, I ordered some products over a month ago to be delivered to Europe and I still haven’t received my package. Japanese taste is unavailable for any inquiries. Their products are very expensive and now it’s just money down the drain. There is no way to get hold of a human to inquire about my delivery and they tell me to deal with FedEx.
Fast Delivery and Good Communication
My box of Japanese treats arrived quickly. It was shipped within 6 business days and FedEx was great with communication around where the package was and when it would arrive. It arrived exactly on the day they said it was coming. I also got an email update about what I would get in the box, but it was not clear whether I was getting a full sized snack or just a single portion. The snacks were well packed. Some of the products had a short expiry date e.g. expiry in February/March (I received package on Feb 4th) but none were expired. There were more single size snacks than full sized packets. There was a good variety of snacks that I wouldn’t have been able to buy in my country (NZ). I think the sale price was worth the money, but probably wouldn’t buy it full price because shipping was expensive. I didn’t have to pay any customs import fees so that must depend on the country, and the value and weight of your package. A much better experience than I expected based on the reviews.

I ordered three items from the site (which took around 3 weeks to arrive) and a moisturiser wasn’t included. This was clearly a fault on their side as the box clearly hadn’t been tampered with or opened. I went through 3 separate conversations with them and eventually they told me they wouldn’t do anything to help. I wish I’d read the reviews before :(

Mixed reviews for an odd company
I ordered a KOGU tea jar on Dec. 24, 2025. I figured the holiday rush would delay things and was in no hurry, but by early January I heard nothing and started to worry. I looked up Japanese Taste on Trustpilot and saw all the negative reviews so on January 5th I sent them a threatening email. They responded the next day with tracking information, saying the product had just shipped that day. I was highly suspicious of the timing and of the tracking information. Two days later I sent them another, more threatening email and they responded fairly quickly with a lengthy email reassuring me the tracking information was genuine. I decided to wait it out and, sure enough, on January 13th I received my package with precisely what I ordered in proper condition and no additional charges. So 3 stars for sending me exactly what I wanted but only after 21 days and and angry email. If they had communicated sooner this might be a 5 star review. Strange company. I don't think I will be taking my chances with them in the future. I hope they can reform and do better.
Legit company - long prep time
I am in Canada and ordered on December 15, received items on January 8th. It seems Japanese taste actually only buys the items after you send in your order - they don't keep stock - so that explains the longer delay. It would benefit the company to indicate that order preparation takes 1-3 weeks to manage our expectations.
All my products arrived extremely well packaged. A lot of care was put into making sure every item arrived intact. The products were exactly what I ordered and the expiration dates were reasonable, all more than 6 months away.
I did have to pay customs fees, but these were limited to the equivalent of sales tax in my area. If you are shopping internationally, you should be expecting these.
One thing negative is the abusive 1 hour cancellation window. I understand they buy per order and cannot manage cancellation easily, but a 24-48h window would be more reasonable.

I was shopping for a Christmas party, it says it will take me 3-5 days for delivery but turn out 19 days! It lost the purpose totally but the worse it they don’t allow to cancel and said the warehouse is preparing it. After few email negotiations, they said it’s on its way. Well, I have to accept and expecting the delivery. I’m quite disappointing about the selection of the snack gift box. If I know what they are going to put it in, I wont willing to pay £70 for this like simple snack……if you are going to shop, the reviews may help for your expectation.

Most people who write on this platform probably only do so after a negative experience, but I wanted to share the opposite. My order arrived exactly on time and was perfectly packed. What I love most is how they curate their products—it saves me so much time and effort. Definitely a reliable shop!
