Review of Jackbox Games, Inc
I have been a long-time supporter of Jackbox Games, purchasing multiple titles over the years for family and social gatherings. The games themselves are creative, fun, and have provided many memorable experiences. However, it is important to share a serious issue with potential customers so they can make fully informed decisions before purchasing.
Jackbox Games’ products are sold through multiple platforms including Amazon Fire TV, Google Play, Steam, and consoles. Purchases are locked to the platform where they were made. There is no centralized account system or cross-platform licensing. This means that if you buy a game on one platform, you cannot access it on another even if you are a loyal customer who has purchased several titles.
In my case, I originally purchased several Jackbox titles through the Amazon Fire TV Stick. I no longer use that device and now rely on Google TV and the Google Onn Box. Unfortunately, the games I purchased are inaccessible on my current setup. When I contacted Jackbox Games support, the only solution offered was to repurchase the same games again on the new platform. Despite my history of purchases and loyalty, the company declined to provide any goodwill credit or license transfer.
Key Takeaways for Potential Customers
Read the disclaimers and policies carefully before purchasing. Jackbox Games clearly states that licenses are platform specific and non transferable.
There is no centralized library. You cannot pull up your purchased games across different devices or platforms.
No exceptions are made for loyal customers. Even if you have purchased multiple titles, the company will not adjust its policy or provide credits.
There is a risk of losing access. If you change devices or platforms, you may find yourself unable to use the games you already own unless you buy them again.
Conclusion
While the games themselves are enjoyable, the lack of cross platform support and rigid licensing policy is a significant drawback. Customers should be aware that their purchases are tied to a single platform, and switching devices could mean losing access to their library. I strongly recommend that anyone considering Jackbox Games weigh this limitation carefully before investing in multiple titles.
