Thank you Rachael, the best customer service I can remember having. Firstly, when speaking with everyone at Hagerty you feel like you’re talking to actual humans who are allowed to be people. So refreshing!
I had a damaged glass on my car which was going to cost £4000 and take a year due to its rarity. Rachael was so helpful and advised it was acceptable to look for a second hand glass and have that fitted, which there was only one of in the UK. The excellent advice I was given has meant my classic car was back in action in two weeks, kept the cost within my insured limit and Hagerty have a customer for life. Thank you, Sam

Treated like a thief over claim - took more than 2 months to process it....
Poor, had insurance claim when I hit my classic car on a pothole and damaged the spoiler. Made an insurance claim - was treated like a thief, they went through the quote with the independent garage with fine tooth comb - took over 2 months to agree anything. On the lights which failed due to the pothole they initially refused the claim???? then said they would only approve 2 hours work - Farce - I am going back to Footman James and I suggest you do to unless you like being treated like a thief for making a claim...
I have taken a look at the response from Hagerty above and it does not match the reality of what has happened - Hagerty have looked to change the actions and the reasons for their decision after my original review.
There was an initial mistake adding one item to the claim at the rear, which I asked the garage to complete when then car was in the workshop, however the remainder if the response does not bare resemblance with reality - There was no independent review of what work was needed, the garage said it was caused by the pothole - the Hagerty claims assessor said it was not - the lights worked before the pot hole, the pothole caused significant damage to the area of the car where the lights are, it is a classic Italian car which are susceptible to electric issues when they are hit. We argued over the point for more than 3 months without a resolution, the car being booked in then hagerty changing the claim and their payout more than 3 times. We eventually came to a point where I decided to pay for the claim entirely myself due to delaying and arguing tactics of Hagerty. the garage efused to deal with Hagerty for being so difficult - the garage was forced to rewrite the quote over 4 times with different systems being requested all of which was completed for the same piece of work, then it got stuck in the system for 3 months Eventually we gave ups dealing with them ass you can only spend so much time arguing with insurance companies.I've had over 120 cars and therefore have dealt with quite a number of insurance companies including all of t he usual suspects. And now having done so I can say with clarity that
- If you want cheap insurance they are great - when things go wrong you will ultimately pay the price for your choice as I have done.

We’re sorry to hear you felt dissatisfied with the handling of your claim. We always aim to provide a fair and transparent service, and we’d like to clarify the timeline and decisions to ensure the full context is understood.
Your claim was reported on 17/11/25, relating to damage to the underside of the front spoiler following a pothole incident on 12/10/25. On 18/11/25 we issued repair instructions to your chosen repairer requesting an estimate. After receiving no response, we contacted them on 25/11/25, at which point they advised the vehicle was not with them. Engineers were therefore appointed the same day to arrange an inspection directly with you.
The engineers attempted contact on 26/11/25, 28/11/25 and 03/12/25. Successful contact was made on 03/12/25 and the inspection was scheduled for 10/12/25. Unfortunately, until contact was established, an inspection date could not be agreed, which contributed to the timeframe involved.
Following inspection, the estimate provided included work to multiple areas such as the bonnet, engine cover, rear panel (including rust treatment), blending of wings, and investigation of headlight faults. The independent motor engineer concluded that several of these items – including the bonnet, engine cover, rusted rear panel, and headlight faults – were not related to the reported pothole incident. We confirmed this position in our email of 02/01/26.
After you advised on 05/01/26 that the headlights stopped working at the time of the incident, we referred this back to the engineer. They confirmed there was no evidence linking the headlight issue to the pothole impact and advised such damage would be unusual without an underlying issue. Despite this, and in the interest of resolving matters fairly, we authorised two hours’ labour on 12/01/26 to investigate further. We also confirmed that if evidence showed the fault was incident-related, we would ask the engineer to reconsider.
While standard practice is for customers to initially evidence unrelated faults at their own expense, we agreed to fund this preliminary investigation to support a fair and proportionate outcome.
We understand claims can be frustrating, particularly where there is disagreement over causation, but the decisions made were based on independent engineering assessment and the information available at each stage. We remain committed to treating all customers fairly and transparently.
Please follow the next steps as outlined in the final response you received from us if you are not happy with the outcome of the investigation.
Terrible web quoting system.
Please don’t try to use their quote system it is an absolute waste of time. I ended up getting insurance elsewhere.
