I discovered Rockstar Games
I discovered Rockstar Games, when we went into lockdown. Unable to physically see my partner we decided to play online games together. First was GTA5 and then Red Dead Redemption 2.
I felt both games were reasonably priced for todays market I think I paid around £35-40 each. This was better value with GTA5, as once you pay for the game most of the content is then accessible. However with Red Dead Redemption 2, a lot of the content needs gold to access. Although you can earn gold in game, it is a very slow process and therefore a long grind. I found it easier to pay the extra to have the gold. If you like the grind though then this would not be an issue.
Both games are fairly large files and therefore took some time to download onto my computer.
Looking at other reviews I can see that people modding and trolling can be a big issue on their games. But then I believe you will get this on any online multiplayer gaming platform and it is how the company deal with this that matters more than the fact that it happens. I have experienced bad players on both games with Rockstar, but I have also seen that they will ban those they find to do this. This may be a temporary ban but they will also permanently ban accounts they find to be cheating. I have also heard from other players, that Rockstar do not give a reason for a ban, they ban without warning and there are no appeals. I believe this is to give a deterrent to people, however, if a player has been wrongly reported or something has been misinterpreted then perhaps this system is a little unfair, especially after paying so much for the game to then have it taken with no refund.
While playing their games, you can always change session if you come across a bad player to avoid them. This is fairly quick and simple to do, although can be frustrating if in the middle of a mission.
The amount of detail Rockstar put into their games is amazing. The graphics are outstanding and visually I have not come across better games with the same gameplay. They both handle extremely well and from someone who has not really had much experience gaming previously, it did not take me long to get used to the controls.
Both games can be played with a keyboard and mouse, however I did find Red Dead Redemption a lot easier once I had a controller.
Rockstar are constantly looking to update their games and its content and I do believe that in December Red Dead which is the newer of the two games will have quite a big update, which I am looking forward to. Their games although are extremely fun to play already, have a lot of potential for future updates and I do not see people getting bored of them anytime soon.
I know that they are also working on GTA6, which many are excited about seeing. However, they have given no release date for this game yet. It does feel it takes a long time between the updates and new releases, however if you look at the content of each game and how much has gone into them, as well as the popularity of their games, it is easier to understand why it takes time.
The only thing I would say is that Red Dead Redemption only has voice to communicate between players and I do feel that it could use some form of text chat.
Personally I really enjoy both games that I have played by Rockstar. As they are so popular, I have not only been able to play this with my partner, but my son is also able to join us in missions etc on game. In fact in Red Dead Redemption 2 up to 7 people can join into a group. This can make it fun if you find others to play with. I actually would like to see this extended to 10.
I would love to see Rockstar extend content in both games, as I said they both have so much potential for more. But they are one of my favourite online multiplayer platforms at this current time. What is more is that it is something my partner and I equally enjoy.
