“Go” to another hire company
Organised to pick up a Go Van from Tesco, Holywell, Swords. On arrival I was greeted with a dirty, damaged van. It really looked like it hadn’t been looked after.
The interior unfortunately wasn’t much better, with stained seats and grubby loading area. The radio didn’t work either.
I drove 12km to Oldtown, Co.Dublin, problem free. After loading the van (took 30 minutes), I jumped back in the drivers seat, however the van would not start. I contacted their customer service team, where I was told that I could be waiting some time for assistance.
Turns out the battery was flat.
Once I got it going again, an hour behind schedule, a low oil warning light popped up on the dashboard. Again, having discussed the issue with their customer service team, I was instructed to drive it to the nearest Circle K and purchase “oil” on the fuel card. It needed diesel anyway, so I drove the opposite direction again for 12-14km, which I was charged for.
Having discussed with their customer service what oil the van required, I was first told that they didn’t have a clue, followed by what was in the service book, which suggested i took it to the main dealer and then I was told that any synthetic oil will do. I purchased the any synthetic oil will do, paying cash as their fuel card will not accept oil. Having topped it up, I managed to proceed with my now hour and a half late journey, with extra mileage and extra cost.
I requested if I could speak to a manager, to discuss the issues including the rental cost. One week on, I haven’t had a reply and I have not been reimbursed in any way.

Yesterday my friend Diego and I spent 1 hour because after doing all the steps to end the trip my car didn’t lock. I called emergency number (which answer 30 later after many robots). A guy didn’t really know what to do, so he told us to keep the key and lock the car and call first hour in the morning. Guess! Many robots swapping numbers, anyone answer and still have the key. So bad costumer service, I will never never repeat again with them.
Don't understand the bad reviews
GREAT SERVICE ALL AROUND. Had a rental from Knock Airport, no issues with the car, apart from I pressed the open button a bit earlier than I should have, but customer services were very friendly and sorted it out very quickly! Car was in perfect condition, when I go back I'll be using them again.

Hired a gocar for 7.30 this morning but the car is not starting.
Believe it or not there is no one available on the helpline until 9am even though the website and the app say the helpline is open at 8am.
Have missed all my appointments and sitting here for another 30 minutes, after already waiting a hour, before I can even speak to anyone.

My account was associated to my friend account, she called to resolve the situation, so each of us could manage the payment method and the booking from separate accounts.
The customer service proceeded as requested, removing me as second driver from my account. Suddenly my personal account disappeared. I've contacted again the cs and the agent had no clue about what happened and where my account was. This is a shame, they don't have an internal tool to keep trace of the cases and they provide no info at all. The first time I called to unblock my account another agent almost hung up without saying bye or let me finish explain the matter.
So very bad experience, still don't know what happen to my account :) Thanks for the amazing experience guys.
GoCar cancelled my trip
Used GoCar to visit relations in Ireland during covid to good effect, albeit the car was dirty on pick-up, but was cheaper at £350, with other rental firms asking £800+ at that time. However after booking up with GoCar again for a 2023 visit, I've just been informed, literally three days before flying, that my vehicle has gone in for repair and my booking subsequently cancelled and money refunded. There has been no attempt to source me a replacement vehicle, which leaves me having to source another vehicle myself, so close to the holiday! This is just not good enough and not very professional, as our holiday relies so much on a car to get about Ireland visiting relatives and although I received one email saying that they had tried to call me to arrange a replacement vehicle, I have so far not received any such call, but instead received three more emails less than an hour later, cancelling the trip with a full refund and stating "enjoy your trip"! On trying to get a quote for another vehicle with GoCar, I was quoted 350 euros (approx £300). However every cloud has a silver lining and I managed to source a cheaper vehicle from 'Budget' rentals, direct from the airport at a cost of only £213, for the same 5 day period.
Hired an Explore Car
Hired an Explore Car, Hyundai Kona. On collection the car was filthy dirty & smelly inside (wet dog had been on back seat). Outside was damaged in a few places, most noticeable was the bumper. After a while what I thought was my getting use to the car, was in fact something very wrong with the car, constant feeling of going over speed bumps and the sound of propellers in the car. A loud clanking noise every time moving from being stationery. After arriving at my first stop destination I called them to request a replacement car..informing them it was not safe to drive and I feared it would break down or cause an accident. Lady could not help as it was a bank holiday..called back the next day..
I was absolutely horrified that having explained that I did not want drive the car as it felt so unsafe to drive - and that I had my 2 children with me along with a car full of luggage, they wanted me to drive it to a garage to get sorted.
I point blank refused, absolutely baffled that they could not send a replacement car - which they claimed they had none.
After being on hold for what felt like forever they eventually told me they found a small Clio car I could use but I needed to drive the 25kms to collect it - yes drive the unsafe/unroadworthy car they new was dangerous, with my 2 children in.
On collection of the small cramped Clio - City car - it hardly seemed surprising that it was filthy dirty with food, grass and mud. Spare tyre was on the car..which obviously accounted for the Tyre Pressure Warning Sign that flashed up when I turned on the ignition - Inflate Tyres. I decided I could not face trying to call GoCar support again about this & sorted the issue myself.
A very stressful two days at the start of what was 6 day hire.
Their telephone number did not work when I tried to call for assistance when ending my trip - the app had not registered my return base being different to the ‘new’ collection base.
Unlike the dirtbags that did not take any care or consideration for the next driver by leaving the cars clean, I made sure I did as it’s so disheartening collecting a car to find it laden with someone else’s filth.
I wished I had just spent an hour longer on the bus to get to the airport to hire a proper road worthy car.
Awful company and dissapointing customer service.
I applied for an account with Gocar more than 11 days ago. They never came back to me, no answer to my emails. I rang them after almost two weeks and a girl told me that my picture is blurry.
I tried to upload a new picture and the app does not work.
Gocar is an unprofessional company, an awful customer service and awful tratment to their potential customers.
Stay away from such companies, I don't want to ever work with such companies.
Please stay away from them.
They should be ashamed for being so disrispectful.

Unreliable & terrible service
3 times in a row the car would not unlock & the customer service person took 45mins to in the end tell me there's nothing they can do for me & left me completely stranded.
Then they charged me for the whole trip that never happened!!!
I had to get back on customer service to get my money back, another 38 minutes.
This service is pathetic.
Never ever use this ifm you need a reliable service.
Van not clean as suppose to be
The van was ready to be collected where I had booked it for. Instructions on how to access the van was perfect and worked.
Problems were that previous person who had the van before me, left it dirty in the driver and passenger side floor and the van had a terrible smell in it which smelt like cow crap
Other issues was the email address they gave to report it does not work or is no longer in use and it was not clear if when using the app on my phone at the start of my journey if they got the pictures I uploaded of the issues. I tried multiple ways to contact but found I'll have to call them, which I intend on doing. If gocar fix this issues, then in my opinion it's worth using the service. It handy, cheap and no holding fees or deposits or waiting for banks to give your deposit back.

customer service is draconian, the agents are trying to work in a restrictive policy cage. upper management are just there to squash your complaint, not help in any way. im currently in a dispute with them over hidden charges and they are trying to bulldoze me down while charging my bank account every night.
the app is glitchy and malfunctioning and management wont hear it.

Edit: I asked for their regulatory authority and the manager lied and told me it was the NTA. I reported them to the NTA who said they don't cover rental companies. Ridiculous!

Avoid if at all possible…
It’s a great idea but has a few issues that would mean I would have to be absolutely desperate to use again. The car was extremely dirty both inside and outside. Rubbish left from previous drivers, dirty seats and just generally poorly kept.
Hired the GoExplore as I had a longish trip with mostly motorway. The car was not suitable for motorway driving at all. Amber engine light was on for the duration of the journey (notified GoCar before starting journey and was told to continue trip). Sluggish acceleration, often losing power driving uphill on motorway with speed dropping to a max of 80kpm for no reason.
Very difficult to report any dissatisfaction via the app or website.
Horrible customer service - no communication or profesionalism
We have used GoCar a few times before without any issues.
However, we have recently had to deal with their incompetent customer service and I would give this service less than one star rating if i could!
We have been asked to validate the licence on the account, which online says should take about 24 hours. We are now will into the fourth day, having called customer service over 5 times at this stage.
No communication was given to us as to why the delay was occuring… only after having called the 4th time, did I get any resemblance of an explanation to help speed things along. After carrying out the steps suggested by the agent, i was told that the process would only take a few minutes to send and validate.
However, when i called back to make this update to their team, i was dealt with an impatient and rude agent ( by the name of John) who only got frustrated when I explained how ridiculous this entire situation has been.
In the end we are still waiting on the car we need to rent for the past four days with no help in sight from the GoCar team.
I would not recommend this service to others, please avoid if you can - just not worth the hassle.
Seamless experience
I had a seamless experience with Go car today, from the verification process to picking up and dropping back the car. I thought it was an absolutely amazing service and would defo be using again. One indicator wasn’t working and I informed them of this, maybe the last user didn’t say anything, but sure you will have that, no biggy. Also it was really good value. Happy Driving

I’m honestly not sure why all these reviews are so bad! Go car was the only company that would allow me to hire a car without a ridiculous surcharge for being under 25. My licence was accepted in less than two days. We didn’t book the car until we were standing in front of it, so we could make sure it was okay, which on both days the cars were. They don’t have NCT discs because most of them are too new to need one! On the first day of using the car we hired it for 6 hours but decided to return it early. We contacted customer services who were very helpful, altered our booking and let us still only pay 20c a km. on the second day we hired it for over 6 hours but still needed to bring it back slightly earlier than planned, again we messaged customer service who promptly altered our booking. Both cars were very clean, modern and well equipped. One had some cosmetic damage but nothing to worry about. The circleK cards worked great too, we topped the cars up before we set off and then had nothing to worry about for the rest of the trip. Honestly hiring these cars made my holiday, we were able to visit places we would’ve had no way of accessing! We did however, read the terms and conditions before we even got in a car, so we knew what to expect. I honestly think a lot of these bad reviews are user error, as often the things that have been complained about are shown in the policy. The bills that came out of my account were from Europe car so I don’t see how people can thing this is a scam! But oh well, all I can say is book the car when it’s in front of you, there’s plenty in the cities, read the ts&cs and have a good time!
booking xonfirmation means nothing
Don't rely on your booking to have any meaning. You will still end up without a car without adequate notice! Just avoid avoid avoid gocar.
First booking was fine.
Second booking which we made weeks in advance was cancelled by gocar with less than 24 hours notice without any explanation. Only upon inquiry we were told the car needs to be repaired. Any normal rental company would just give you another car, but not gocar, they cancel your booking without any consideration for the customer.
Their refund didn't include any interest either, so essentially they take interest-free loans from people?!
