This is not a trustworthy company. If I could give them negative stars I would. They charged my account without any notice (yes I checked the spam folder) and because I wasnt expecting a $100 charge, my mortgage payment bounced and I had to pay a $45 overdraft fee on top of it! They say you'll get an email when your renewal date is approaching, but that's a lie. Also I've sent 3 emails to their support, as directed by their site, and have had absolutely zero contact from them. If you want to learn a language and need an app, don't pick this one. Go check out duo lingo or your local library and get a book. They don't rip you off.

I've been using FluentU for almost 2 weeks now as an intermediate learner and it's been immensely helpful! Each video has correct transcription of what is spoken and has a natural English translation. The best thing about the transcription is that you can hover over any word and you will get its meaning in that specific context instead of two or more general meanings. Furthermore, there are also quizzes that help refresh your memory of relevant vocabulary and remind you how to spell words. Learning has never been more fun!

I love the repetitious exercises along with the videos of great variety covering so many topics. And that you take me back to review what I've learned after a couple of days to make it stick.

It's simple and the material is easy clear to understand. The course is great, fun for beginners and experience people that want to contuine to learn langusges. GREAT OVERALL. I recomment FulentU.

Like a lot of software now with good content, it is let down by poor implementation. Signed up today and already having major technical problems - app not working and website down. Simply not good enough.

I really like the review withn this website. I don't think it would be enough to actually get fluent if you had no previous knowledge but its good if you take this along side maybe weekly lessons with tutor. I like the small bits of knowledge so you don't get stress and the follow up is good to drill home concepts. I have had good luck with customer service and having them get back to me with an answer. It;s kind of addictive.

It's a shame because it's a great concept, but this app is way too buggy to actually use!

I liked this website. It has a very good education system with subtitles and videos. It's very comfortable that I am able to know what some word means because you can with one move select the word under the video and read the meaning of it.

FluentU is one of the best apps for learning new languages out there. It is all about the format. They have a huge library of videos containing movie clips, songs, little lessons, cartoons, and so on. Before you watch the video you are given a list of words that you can review a few times to get them into short term memory - so when you are watching the video you can actually understand the gist of what they are saying. It is a more natural way than just doing word lists or DuoLingo style lessons because you are actually learning to listen rather than recognize. On top of that they also have a more traditional DuoLingo style course with word and grammar lessons, but the power is in those videos. My current setup is using Human Japanese to get more in depth lessons on different words and grammar, as it has much deeper in a textbook style approach, with FluentU for listening practice and drills to memorize the material.

I signed up for a free trial, and cancelled 3 days before its expiry (much earlier than the required 24 hours), following the cancellation instructions provided by FluentU. I then received an email saying my trial was about to expire and my card would be charged for a year subscription (nearly $100). I emailed them to say I’d cancelled and so I shouldn’t be charged any further. They confirmed that I had indeed cancelled and that they wouldn’t be taking any money from me. Then yesterday evening, they proceeded to charge my card for the year. This is an unauthorised transaction. They clearly cannot be trusted with the bank card details they request for a free trial.
DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR BANK DETAILS!!

I like the videos content and the tests until complete all the words requirement of the video.

I like how it works, it actually teaches me the words included in the videos, and I can learn with this app in a playful way. I can recommend it to anyone from the younger generation, who wants to study while having fun. One disadvantage I have experienced so far, that the underlined words (they teach after the videos) are commonly known ones on some occasions.

It is great and so easy to revise words and remember them. I would be great if we would have grammar section as well. Of course by watching videos is the best, easiest and funniest part.
"And one more thing, it would be great if you could add Turkish language, my wife would like to join the FluentU but unfortunately, she does not know in english. Only she can speak in turkish beside Azeri language.

I like the instruction format, especially the short clips, having the translation under the words and the ability to go back and replay a segment.
I would like to have more videos from Spanish Playground, Disney and sports videos especially baseball and soccer.

The best things I like about this are the prevalence of native speakers in video, so the realism is spot on. The pace of speaking varies from slow to fast as you move up the levels from beginner to advanced. I'm still low-intermediate and the way the speakers have very slight pauses between words is exactly what I need to parse out a sentence.

On top of that, the ability to create your own personalized vocab list is perfect. To click on any unknown word and get a definition, multiple video usages, etc. allows one to really dive into the true understanding of the language.

I started for a year and a half on Hello Chinese app on my phone, and while I thought that was very good it has topped out and I don't get much from it now outside of vocabulary review. I don't know how well this would word from a true beginner that doesn't know wo and ni, but I feel I'm picking up more skills and vocabulary every day with this than I ever did with the Hello Chinese app.

I love FluentU because I can pose any unknown words to find out their meaning and learn and remember them. I also like quizzes after watching each video. If 80% of the year's payment is real after 2 week trial, I will definitely give 5 stars!

My son used this for a few days and I got charged for a yearly subscription when I thought it was a free trial. No warning that I was going to be charged via email. I thought the payment receipt was a scam as it was in my junk mail, but money went from my account.

UPDATE: Support gave me a refund after I complained so updated rating.
