Poor quality and service

I've ordered 2 pairs of boots from Eves and Gray and both were fabulous - comfortable, stylish and high quality. Having ordered a third pair last year I was expecting the same - but sadly disappointed. The stitching on the right boot split within 2 weeks. Contacting support, the response from the factory was that "this happens when a customer's feet are too big for the shoe", slightly ignoring the fact this was my third pair. Both they, and all of my other shoes fit. Perhaps I could suggest that this happens when a shoe is made too small? Further correspondence ensued and ultimately I got the boot restitched, at a local cobbler at my own cost. Tim offered me a free pair of socks...with my next order. On balance, I've decided to buy my own socks and shop elsewhere for shoes. Disappointing experience, only just got round to writing this having seen the boots languishing in a cupboard.

Sadly on occasion when a particular style is purchased that may be too narrow for the customer despite being the same size you may stretch the boot beyond its capacity. Typically this happens with Chelsea boots however it is very rare and normally down to this reason. Either way we do believe support offered to have them fixed. However, replacing items that have been worn multiple times without identifying what caused the damage is something we just couldn’t be liable for. Unwearable Shoes

A year ago I ordered a pair of Blackadder Oxfordshoes from Eves & Gray, having bought several shoes from them previously. For some reason I tried the shoes on upon delivery and the fit seemed fine but for some reason I didn’t wear them properly until very recently.

And oh my God how I wish I hadn’t. So painful within 30 minutes and by the end of the day I had a huge blister on my right foot, so bad that the sock I was wearing was covered in blood. This is the sort of thing you expect from cheap shoes not expensive hand made ones.

Obviously given the length of time that has elapsed since I purchased the shoes I cannot really return them but I certainly won’t be wearing them again and nor will I be ordering from Eves and Gray again.

Edit: Responding to Eves & Gray, it was Order No. 54375 placed 05/10/22. The size and fitting I ordered was identical to THREE other shoes I have ordered from Eves & Gray.

Edit 2: Responding to Eves & Gray, I note your suggestion that the shoes may improve after a few more wears. However given how badly my right foot is blistered - and it is no exaggeration to say that a week later it is still hugely painful - I have no intention of wearing your product again nor buying from you again either.

We are very sorry to hear this. Typically, if the shoes are causing you discomfort then it is a sizing issue. We can assure you that this happens with cheap and expensive shoes if the sizing/fit is incorrect then it will impede the fit.

We try to ensure a very comfortable product which is why we are surprised to see this review without indeed being made aware of it throughout the correct channels. Depending on the shape of your foot, this particular style may not be the best shape for you, however we are confident that this issue will subside once they are worn in. Typically, most of the issues we face are down to the various postage companies we use and certainly not down to comfort which is something we are actually very mindful of when designing, classic shoes. The inner sock is also padded for extra comfort however If you are wearing thick socks, perhaps have a high instep this may increase the chance of an uncomfortable fit if not worn in for a longer period of time.

Either way, we hope this issue resolves itself once they have been worn in a few more times. Please also take into consideration on the edited version of your response that the previous three items you have purchased have given you no problems. The fact that you have a double E fitting will always make slightly narrower styles more tricky to wear in and adapt. Either way, we are sorry to hear that you are never going to use us again based on this one item, however completely understand your position and respect it.

I love these shoes!

A pair of bespoke shoes I ordered has just arrived and they are truly stunning, beautifully made and finished, the colour is just what I wanted/was hoping for.
I'm always a little trepidatious ordering bespoke online, so the personal communication reassuring me they had the design, size, everything right was very much appreciated.
I own several pairs of E&G boots and shoes and they often get compliments and people asking about them. Recommend.

I am a returning customer of Eves&Gray…

I am a returning customer of Eves&Gray and have several pairs of their production shoes (Stocked items) and now decided to design my own on their new platform. I even changed the sole colour. I love my new boots and can highly recommend them not just for style but they are now the comfiest boots i own. I also get complimented on them a lot even by strangers! 5 STARS from me and the process was faultless. I'l be back for more :)

Orders a week late (that’s 7 weeks and…

Orders a week late (that’s 7 weeks and counting). The company says the staff had a 2 week holiday over the summer so are running late but this was not communicated before the order was overdue. I was told the shoes were going through quality control a week ago but have not received them or had any communication regarding the order.
Very poor service!

We appreciate that we are starting to get a few more of the one star reviews due to this problem. You are absolutely correct.

This year we did not communicate properly with the customers that there is an obligatory two week holiday during the August period. For this we apologise.

Looking back through the communication lines, it seems we have been in regular contact with you and indeed the item has been finished and is awaiting to be sent out. Please bear in mind that things ordered from this particular "Made to order' line can take a little bit longer depending on the style. Next year we are going to look at a much more effective way to communicate the extra two week delay and again we can only apologise. Your item should be with you very shortly.

Please remember that we also cover the substantial postage cost of around £26 to ensure that they are delivered in a safe and timely manner. Once we have the tracking number, it will be emailed over to you straight away.

I recently ordered and taken delivery of a pair of the brown burnished brogues boots from Eves and Gray...
First off, they arrived in a classy, high quality finish, trendy, pristine & modern look! A real statement pair of boots!
Though a bit pricey, it is worth every penny..
The customer service received I must say, is out of the usual..

Tim, the owner, is frightenely effective! Helped make my experience seamless! Went far and beyond to help in every step.. From placing the order, checking with the production team at the factory at every stage, messaging me at each step, even helping when the DHL delivery was botched, ensuring I received my purchase on the exact day promised..
A true vassal to Eves and Gray..
I'm a very satisfied customer, and will surely be buying again..

Awful service and a rubbish product

Awful service and a rubbish product, does not resemble the photo on the website in any way shape or form! I am loosing money but it is straight to my local charity shop for these boots.

The product is great but the service…

The product is great but the service was poor.
I paid then heard nothing sent an email asking where my purchase was to be told they were being manufactured due to demand and that you had emailed me.
I had received no such Email and the shoes turned up seven weeks later out of the blue.
The only notification I got was an Email from Fed Ex

Thank you very much for the review. Sincere apologies about the communication. During August, The factory has an obligatory two week holiday. This is because we have many specialists and if they decided to take random times off throughout the year it affects overall production. Of course they still have additional holidays but we do need a static period to make things run smoothly. This is also why they took longer than 4 weeks to make.

This particular order was upgraded due to the fact we didn’t have any stock. This means that you actually received a more premium product even at the discounted sale rate. I am very pleased you like them :)

Next year we are going to hire additional call handlers during the summer months. Either way thank you for taking the time to review us and if you like you can have my direct email and you can message me directly whenever you like, and I will reply immediately.

Shocking

Shocking! I was sent a second hand pair of boots in broken packaging and customer service did not give a dam.....even tried to get me to pay to send them back, purchased a lot, will not again!

With regards to your reply, I did not request ANY compensation that is not my style, just a new pair of boots, the packaging WAS NOT damaged in transit this is just an excuse as the outer carton was not damaged at all just the inner purple box...I would hope that you are not seeking compensation from your carrier for this! this is the first time I have written a review and felt the need to as your service was shocking and you did not want to discuss just come up with excuses which is a real shame...

The box was damaged in transit. The boots were brand new and unworn and heavily discounted as they were the last pair in that size. They were actually packed from our head office by Jacqui our company secretary who is a meticulous wrapper. Countless emails were exchanged apologising about DHL's treatment of the parcel.

Emails were also sent from directly the Managing Director and as you were insisting on compensation above the cost of the item we suggested a return/refund was the only fair solution.

We logged a complaint with DHL with regards to the packaging and offered an immediate refund which was swiftly granted. To say we "did not give a dam.."is not truthful but it's Trustpilot and the inevitable 1 star and embellished story get's published. We try very hard to keep our customers happy but can not win them all or indeed be held to blackmail for unreasonable compensation requests on an already heavily discounted clearance item. E&G Team

Brought a pair of boots six weeks ago…

Brought a pair of boots six weeks ago worn three times the buckle has fallen off the right boot and the loop on the same boot has become unstitched.
Poor value for money no after care or customer service

Absolutely 1st class service and products

Absolutely 1st class service.
I ordered a pair of shoes that were in the sale section but knew I'd be away on holiday when they arrived.
Called the office and spoke to Laura, explained I'd be happy to pay extra to have them posted next day or just hold the order till i came back.
Laura took all the details and said she'd come back to me.
They turned up the next morning at no extra cost and Laura emailed me to ensure i had recieved them, outstanding!

The shoes themselves were very well packaged and are excellent quality, a real luxury feel and worth every penny.

I'd never heard of the Eves & Gray before but will definitely be back.

Good morning, Apologies for the delay. This is a size 11.5 so can take and extra 2 weeks to make. We are not a scam company however we have had Easter and 3 bank holidays disrupting production times. We are desperately trying to get them completed by the 11th and sent out at a cost of £30 which we cover. On occasion this does happen in our industry so we will also email you to get some extra items sent out as way of compensation. Great shoes from a great company

This is my second purchase from E&G and won’t be my last! I bought a pair of boots last year and was incredibly impressed with the quality and attention to detail of the boots along with the high quality packaging and presentation of them.

I ordered a pair of brogues in the sale and received a personal email from Tim, the MD, explaining they were out of stock in my size but suggesting an alternative and offering to price match the sale prixe. I actually now prefer these to the ones I originally ordered! It would have been easy to lose a sale with an out of stock message but I remain a very satisfied customer who will continue to buy from E&G and strongly recommend them to others. Keep up the great work!
