Dragoman Tunisia and Algeria tour 2026:
Most of the tour locations are well worth a visit particularly the historic ruins in a variety of places in both countries.
The tour cost more than I'd normally expect, though being in Africa already from a previous overland tour, it seemed logical to continue in the continent.
The hotels selected were ok with some misgivings that I'd trust Dragoman would address before future tours.
For me it would have been better to side step Sousse in Tunisia, since this is mostly a cheap beach holiday location, not in keeping with what I considered the tour to be about.
The long drive to reach Ghardaia also seemed a drain, with little to see of interest while being located in a mediocre hotel outside town for 2 nights that could have been omitted.
Breakfasts overall were of a basic quality and the food generally was ok while I'd not go beyond that. Transport was reasonable and comfortable, especially given the low number of passengers facilitating more space for each.
Many of the local guides were not up to tourist required standard, either in knowledge of subject, mastery of English, or delivery.
The tour staff in the Sahara were willfully lacking in endeavour, only doing the bare minimum to provide meals and support.
On the challenging dune climb for example they opted to park at camp a significant distance from the climb, noting all passengers were elderly, in their 60's or older.
Showing no inclination to drop the ageing party closer to the climb to make this less of a challenge.
Also, there are only so many examples of rock art, paintings and engravings the average person can see before it becomes much of a muchness. Days 3 and 4 in the desert involved 3 hour siestas after lunch avoiding the intense midday heat.
As such I feel 3 days would be more than enough for this section of the tour as day 4 was a dragged out affair.
Further the Dragoman group guide Lisa was on occasion not forthcoming in providing clear information on what the day would entail, as I was often confused as to the day's plan.
The tour was ok, though for me lacking in the above areas.
I'd consider the best move to reduce overall days by removing Ghardaia, Sousse and day 4 of the desert, reviewing some of the hotels and a revamp of local guide selection.
That said the historic locations visited feature strongly in promoting the combined visit to Tunisia and Algeria together.
