1. Called Miami Office for details several weeks ago & to confirm their website shipping tariffs (in US$) Miami to Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic (SD). for which there were three US Dollar rates:
Air Cargo: $1.75/pound
Marine Cargo: $0.45/pound
Priority Package: $2.76/pound
Domex Miami agent explained I would have to open account on their website online
2. Opened online account with Domex as instructed. Then tried to open my account but website was dysfunctional & couldn't.
3. Purchased items to be shipped to SD, RD, then next day tried to call Domex Miami, multiple times, & call would not go through. Called relative in SD & asked him to call Domex in SD to confirm Miami office was open. Yes, Domex SD said Miami office was open.
4. Called Domex's Miami office still phone call would not go through.
5. Drove 63 miles, one way, & had difficulty in finding Domex office.
6. Entered office with two boxes to be shipped to SD. Clerk weighed each box at 15 pounds each. I told desk clerk we called his office multiple times & no answer. He said it was because they had no phone as they only recently moved into this office. Not true.
7. Tried to confirm (again) with clerk the 3 shipping tariffs listed on Domex website & by what another clerk had already confirmed by telephone weeks ago. I told the clerk I wanted the Advertised Air Cargo, $1.75/pound tariff. He then asked the prices of my two items & said I would have pay customs duties if price of each item was greater than $200; no mention of this on Domex website or when I first called Domex.
The present clerk could not confirm their advertised website tariffs & said he would have to call SD & ask.
SD agent said the price was
$US 60/15 pound box which came to $120 for our two boxes
This calculated to $4.00/pound & not the website advertised tariff of $1.75/pound. We told the clerk never mind as we could put the two items in a suitcase & pay $40 to our airline carrier for an extra bag hence saving $80.
In summation I do not recommend Domex as they are unorganized, unscrupulously fiddling prices & worse yet they lied. Furthermore, this is the very same company that charges a inflated Pass Port delivery fee from Americans for delivery of their US Embassy, Santo Domingo, issued passport.
