Staff were very friendly. Food was served quickly and choice good.
Zoe was really helpful in helping us choose our meal and accompaniments.

This place nailed the nostalgia! The decor took me straight back to old Bombay cafés. The black daal was rich and comforting, and their chai is honestly addictive. Be prepared for a wait though - we waited about 45 minutes even with a booking. Totally worth it!

I suspect the business will run out of steam. It’s become a (very expensive) fast food chain.

I used to love the place. I’d go out of my way to go there.

Staff aren’t what they were.

Food appears to be double the price it used to be…..which would be fine but the portions appear to be half what they used to be.

Lots of upselling, no warmth to the service, very soulless. Almost a caricature of itself.

At least £50 a head with a beer. Unsustainable in my opinion.

When you have a friend like @robforge famous for serving great food in Cranford, a food recommendation from him means something.

In June I fell in love with the bottomless Chai tea. There were 16 of us including Rob and birthday boy John.

Today it's Kerjiwal which started in an Iran Cafe in Bombay so the body builders could have their eggs fix.

The service here is 10/10.
Same for the ambience and the food.
Ryan will be getting great reviews in all the places that count.
You even get a takeaway Chai tea.

Way to start a day in Birmingham which finishes with a slice of physical theatre at the Midlands Art Centre which is 2 miles outside of the centre.

Went for a birthday meal at Dishoom Manchester. Food was amazing and the service was even better. Our waitress was Mikaila and she was awesome. Really made a difference - it’s so lovely to go somewhere where they realise how much customer service matters. Well done Dishoom. Great experience. We’ll be back!

I’ve eaten at Dishoom Birmingham before, and while the portions are small, the food was usually o.k.. This visit, however, was very disappointing.

The vegetable samosas were overcooked — mostly burnt thick pastry with very little filling. The replacement was just as bad. When I raised it with the manageress, she said their new chef “hadn’t been there long,” which didn’t excuse the poor quality. The waiter, Patrick, demonstrated little knowledge of the menu and provided inadequate service.

For the main, I ordered the Tandoori Chaat, expecting a mild vegetarian dish. Instead, it was overloaded with raw chopped chilli — completely inedible. The pineapple pieces were inedible due to the extremely strong spices. When I complained, the manager insisted that “Indian food is generally spicy.” I kept explaining that I understand Indian food is usually marinated in spices, but this dish also included raw chillies which is entirely different and far too strong. He also claimed it was advertised on the menu, but the Tandoori Chaat description doesn’t mention raw chillies. I explained that I had poured half a plate of salad onto my plate and couldn’t see the chilli underneath, yet he kept insisting I shouldn’t have picked it up with my fork. At that point, I said, “I don’t want to argue with you.”

On top of that, the fire exit near our table was locked and reportedly broken. The only other exit is by the reception, and in a packed, large restaurant, people would struggle to evacuate safely in an emergency. I couldn’t even step outside for air while my mouth was burning — a serious safety concern.

We paid £112 for two (service charge included), and even if the main wasn’t charged, the overall experience was unacceptable. Poor food, dismissive staff, and unsafe conditions.

This company employ US based consultancies who do not pay the UK sub contractors they hire

Went to Dishoom Cambridge as a celebration for Step-mum. We were greeted extremely well and food was excellent all around. Servers remained lovely, I would like to offer a special thanks to Fahid who accomodated all our needs wonderfully and was super helpful throughout our service. This place was a wonderful spot in Central Cambridge, I would definitely recommend it to all in the area!

I visited Dishoom Birmingham with my family on Saturday. The reception was warm and welcoming, and our assigned server was attentive. However, the overall experience was disappointing.

The food lacked flavour and was poorly executed—several dishes were overly salty, packed with masala powder, and undercooked. Despite the restaurant’s reputation, the meal felt rushed and unrefined.

While our server was courteous, we noticed other staff members chatting amongst themselves, spilling water, and showing little attention to nearby tables. This lack of professionalism detracted from the dining atmosphere.

Unfortunately, the visit felt like a complete waste of time and money.

We arrived a bit late for our reseervation, I called and left a message that we would be late. When we arrived the lady at the front desk greeted us with 'if you're late again just so you know we won't hold your table.' No hello, welcome. I told her I called and left a message, She said 'I don't care, that doesn't matter.' She was incredibly rude and ruined our evening. The food nor drinks were anying special, there are much better Indian restaurants in London with nicer staff so skip Dishoom.

I was quite disappointed with our recent experience. Firstly, we were not informed in advance that there would be a service charge added to the bill — this should have been made clear from the start. Secondly, while I mean no disrespect, the portion sizes were extremely small. For the price we paid — £50 per head — we expected far better value. Unfortunately, the overall experience did not meet our expectations.

Chilli chicken - £10.20 (not sure what this was)
Fish Amritsari- £9.90 ( for 4-5 small pieces )
Okra Fries-£7.30 (not cooked properly)
Chicken Ruby- (supposed to be a butter chicken)
Matter Paneer- £15.90 (again about 5 pieces of paneer)

Ordered Nan, garlic nan came cold
Roti- was over cooked

Before booking I checked if they catered for coeliac/ gluten free customers, website states they do , just ask and they would make a dish accordingly and that every care will be taken to prevent cross contamination.

Fact they had hardly anything GF , all my mum could eat was chicken tikka balls, this didn’t come with rice or sauce , had to pay £5 extra for rice and there were no GF sauce available, only 2 out of 3 dips .
Most of our group had the set menu which was £54 per head, extortionate imo, there desserts was an ice lolly (akin to a large mini milk) it was disgusting.
Vodka was like water and wine like vinegar
The place is dark and dingy, extremely busy , very loud , I’d hate to be in there if the was a fire , you wouldn’t stand a chance, goddess knows how it passed fire regulations...

They told us the wait is 1 hr and 25 minutes. We waited at the outside que for 1 hour. When arrived to the restaurant reception at the end of the que we were told that ( you did not wait 1hr 25 mintes. You will wait 50 more minutes).

Instead of managing the guests clearly explaining the line is not only outside but you will wait more inside to be seated, we would not be waiting at outside que for one hour. It was already 21.30 when they said we have to wait 50 more minutes.

I will never go to this Dishoom ( Kensington) again.

We had some good food and we were very well looked after. Thank you Nafisa from Canary Wharf Dishoom for such a great service.

Extortionate prices poor quality food, 5 of us visited a treat for my sisters 66 birthday ( official retirement ) food is not that good I specifically asked is My starter ,chilli chicken bites breast ,I don't eat dark meat ,it definitely was not it was like off cuts , chewy & dark ,I left it , everyone said their food was salty, ,but the wine Only one choice of pinot at extortionate price of £48.50 & nothing special ,I googled it & average price £10.50 that's £38 profit, disgusting!! Never thought about a tip as were were not happy but to our shock without notice we were charged £31 ,had I know in advance I definitely would not have paid that much if any for inedible salty food & massive rip off wine ,we will NEVER go again, they sell books about Dishoom recipes etc was told £30 on the back £26 another rip off, such a shame as my sister was so disappointed & won't get that special day back

Very long wait on a Saturday afternoon staff very rude

Dishoom Kensington ;

1. Food average to below average
2. Atmosphere meant to be a funky vibe but feels more like a fish market and not in a good way
3. We were served by at least 7 different waiters/waitresses so it was hard to rate the service. One was pretty good but we only saw him once. A waitress was beyond rude - first asked us how everything was and when we said yes all good she said we’ll want this table back in 10 minutes and not in a friendly way. Put her back to basic customer service school please. She put us totally off everything.
4. We will never come back and within what’s humanly possible for us we’ll tell all our friends never to go.

The food is not as good as it is claimed, but the prices are set at a level which don't live up to the expectations. For example, a flat bread is costing whopping £5, but we couldn't taste anything special granting the privalge to charge this exuberant amount. The portions were also very small. The Chef special that is advertised can be shared with two isn't big enough to do so. The murgh Mali served was a bit sweet.
However the customer service was excellent. And a large army of workers at the restaurant may be the justification for these costs.

12.5% “optional” service charge that they added onto the bill without asking us anyway, which meant £12.50 (plus vat?) on a £100 meal for 2 was added. Food was ok but we were put on a table for 2, which was literally 30cm away from the next “table for 2” couple, about as private as sitting at a macdonalds restaurant but in a darker room. Food served extremely fast, way faster than one would imagine it would take to cook stuff from fresh, but we could be wrong on that point. Wine glasses were the cheap, almost stemless ones that you get in all you can eat buffets in certain hotels abroad. No matter how you dress it up, all of these things did contribute to a bit of a “fast food” or “chain” type vibe about the place, with prices bumped due to the fact its in the city centre, in a fairly attractive building.
At least other rival places give you a more honest “option” of paying a service charge imho, that you can set to how much you think is deserved.
We initially booked at the dishoom to “give it a try” after a day out at the royal exchange theatre, as we are always open to trying new places to eat at, but for the reasons above, I think we will be trying a different eating establishment the next time we are out in town. Its sad to see reviews of people actually queuing to go there, as its not really somewhere we would imagine going out of our way and queuing up for.

This is a shame I used to love this restaurant chain and I've visited every London branch.

Rude. The server spilled the contents of my bacon naan onto the table and walked away laughing. There is no wifi. They tell you it's unavailable after capturing all your details to spam you with endless offers.

So, three slices of bacon in a small naan bread and a single small cup of oat milk chai cost me £17.10. The waiting staff were tetchy and unhelpful. Avoid this place.

Previously I've enjoyed eating here but I'll never revisit any of the branches after today. Overpriced fare with rude and uninterested staff.
