Unfortunately not fit for purpose
Don't often complain about anything but unfortunately this is not fit for purpose. I wasn't expecting the world as it is significantly cheaper than others on the market however the coop is flimsy and could be easily broken into by a fox. The wood is thin, the doors and brackets are weak and the pull out tray can be accessed easily from underneath for a fox. I have had to modify this coop significantly and we have now since got a new one from elsewhere. I did approach the company but received no reply so would like to ensure others know what they are getting.

This is a tale of two sides
This is a tale of two sides. I'll start with the good then the could improve.
The good...
The ordering process, and notifications for delivery are brilliant, the courier also took great care and everything arrived in good condition. The instructions and pre-drilled holes made assembly super easy and super quick.
The could improve...
The wood and paint finish are quite poor quality, I deliberately went for the white and grey paint to avoiding needing to paint, but I needed to to get the finish how I'd expect, the wood was nicked and split in quite a few places which I've also filled and sanded.
The roof does not align to the body of the hutch on the run extension side. I appreciate the upper roof overlaps this area however wind and rain come from all directions so water ingress did occur, this needed a skirt to be attached to avoid this.
Overall for the price the quality isn't quite there, if your willing to rectify the wood, paint and make some small modifications to the roof then the hutch should be fine.

First of 5* Service 5* delivery very happy guinea pigs
First of after reading all the bad reviews I was not expecting the best but this Thumper XL hutch is a home to two guinea pig that have settled in very well only had them a week and they are only 8 week old they are two very happy sisters.
Then there the building of the hutch took about two hours to build and very simple instructions to follow it was just hard for one person to build had get my dad involved yes it is an outdoor cage but fits well inside and the cats are leaving it alone

Coop was really poor quality
Coop was really poor quality, we had to reinforce it so much to the point we may as well have just built one. Wood was very flimsy and the locks were rubbish, the extension didn’t even fit onto the coop and wasn’t the correct size. Seeing as we paid approximately £550 in all I wrote a email complaint to the company and never heard back, this was around 6 weeks ago. Honestly don’t bother!! Only good thing was the fast delivery.

Outstanding Service…
Absolutely outstanding service from this company, I cannot fault them. Package came very quickly but one of the door poles was wrong, contacted them right away + a new pole was sent out the next day. The walk in run is very spacious + my 2 bunnies love it. Would definitely purchase again.

the coop is absolutely tiny
the coop is absolutely tiny, the pictures make it look far bigger and it is not suitable for our 3 small chickens let alone the 5 it says it could house. the wooden is thin and cheap, the latches don’t seem like they would be very fox proof and for £200 i definitely expected more. it does look cute but it’s not very fit for purpose and im really upset we spent so much money on this. i would not order from again unfortunately:(

Not as good quality as I had hoped
Not as good quality as I had hoped, some of the wood is cracked and just generally cheap components, hinges do not look like they will last very long. Some of the pre assembled parts were in the wrong place. The pull out drawers with metal trays seems like a great idea for cleaning, but in hindsight I’m not sure how comfy the buns will find it. Overall, Wish I had just built my own.

Please be aware anyone living in Scotland that high delivery charges apply to all not just Highlands and certain areas as their payment page states.An address in Annan just 8 miles into Scotland incurs charges.

Avoid this product
Very disappointed. Materials used are barely fit for purpose, the build quality is poor. For the price I’ve paid I feel I’ve been had. The delivery, even after speaking to a customer service team member was as poor as the product itself.

Bad customer service
Ordered on the Friday at 4pm. Was not expecting next day delivery. Saturday morning recieved an email that my order had been dispatched.
Sunday recieved an email from Gizmo saying my order wouldn't be dispatched until Wednesday/Thursday. Questioned this, (had to check Gizmo wasn't a scam as they sent the most unprofessional email I've ever received). Was told this was fine, I asked multiple times about when I'd recieve delivery and about delivery fee.
Response was rude, un informative, and then just stopped replying when I asked why I'd been given two conflicting emails about when to expect delivery.
Recieved item on Tuesday.
Honestly didn't know if I'd actually receive it, would not recommend and will not use again.

Very very pooy
Very, very poor quality, the wind will push the hut over and a fox would easily get in. We have had to reinforce it every were, I wish we had built our own. Very over priced weak wood. Will never use again

The courtyard chicken coop we bought is…
The courtyard chicken coop we bought is excellent. We paid £229 plus a bit extra for fox proof wiring.
The instructions were ok and we muddled through but some clearer images would have been useful, especially when fitting the roof panels. But all the holes lined up and we got there in the end.
The delivery was excellent and it arrived quickly.
Just one thing on the website…the courtyard chicken coop, and the XL courtyard chicken coop give exactly the same measurements but the larger is £40 more.
The courtyard chicken coop £229 (May 2025) states it’s for 3 large, 4 small.
The courtyard XL (£269) states it’s suitable for 4 medium, 5 medium.
This is a bit confusing.
But otherwise we are very pleased with our purchase.
(Not sure that the fox proof bit to the wire has been applied though)

Thanks also for pointing out the confusion around the standard and XL versions of the coop. You're absolutely right , while they are very similar in footprint, the XL includes extra internal height and upgraded features, which accounts for the difference in price and capacity rating. That said, we'll review the listings to make this clearer on the site.
Regarding the fox-proof wire, it should have a heavier gauge mesh than the standard version. If you're unsure whether that was applied, please feel free to contact our customer service team at admin@coopsandhutches.co.uk and we’ll be happy to double-check for you.
