I have been sponsoring a needy child for over 2 years now. The ministry is very easy to contact by phone and email and answer the phone anytime I had to call them. Their purpose is wonderful and the ministry has helped countless children and families.One time my monthly payment did not go through due to loss of my debit card that allowed the automatic monthly payment. I realized this and called Compassion. They paid the two months for me so the child's need would still be met but I paid them back. They also send a christmas and birthday gift to the sponsored child if giver did not send one. They are top notch and reputable. I've done the research.Best of all, some of the children who were sponsored years ago are now adults and were given paid jobs at the ministry.I have actually talked with 2 of these employees through the 2 years I've been sponsoring.

My difficulty has been both with the app and with my attempts to get information from the charity over the phone. The app listed the age of the child I sponsor wrong so I wished her a happy 15th when it was her 16th. I also asked, a while back, to receive letters by post and not through the app but this hasn't happened. It's easy to miss letters on the app. The charity also, a few years ago, increased the monthly amount without making me aware that this was happening. I don't mind the new amount but I do mind not being put on notice of the new amount.

I continue to support the sponsored child because obviously I care about her and want her to have support. That said, Compassion as a charity appear to be run in quite a disorganised way, in terms of the sponsor facing administration which is a real shame, given the really good cause they stand for and deliver.

I asked them to cancel my subscription 4 months ago. They said they would, not only have they not cancelled, but they have the nerve to double charge me. The money doesnt even go towards the child.

DON'T HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH COMPASSION. I've been with them almost 30 years but they are crooked now. It used to be if you made a pymt over the phone with an agent, they took the pymt immediately. Last month I made a pymt with an agent for $141. I sponsor 3 kids. THEY TOOK TWO PYMTS TOTALLING $282 OFF MY CREDIT CARD the next day, and it took ONE WEEK TO BE RECREDITED. I thought it was a bug and shrugged it off. This month I paid again using an agent, off a debit card, and AGAIN they took $282 THE NEXT DAY, leaving me $6 in my account. I called a supervisor to complain, but they just gaslight you that it's just a preauth--they say the money's there. HA! I made the pymt on a Tuesday, and on Saturday had to hock jewelry just to have gas money. Now I will have to pay$40 in interest just to get my jewelry back, thanks to THEM robbing me. Chase tells me the extra $141 they took from me won't be recredited till at least Tuesday. So they shorted me out for one week. I made 2 complaints on their website and a BBB complaint, and they haven't bothered to respond.

I sponsored a child for a year. Compassion International partners with local churches and gives out daily living necessities to kids in poverty. They are financially transparent and are an accredited, legitimate organization. When I could no longer afford the sponsorship, they were very nice to me offering to pay for a month. The cancellation process was quick and easy. I aspire to sponsor a child again in the near future. I keep donating as this is a reliable organization.

No proper communication from that young person, just request more and more money, asking to pray for Catholic Church which we do not follow, no confirmations about money received.

We just noticed fraudulent activity that has been going on with our money being sent to this company. The last sum of money for the last six months we believe did not go to help our child at all. We translated the letter we received from her and compared it to what the translator said. And it was completely different! She said nothing about receiving the money from us. And she was moving to the city with her aunt. The letter from compassion stated that the money was going for her to start breeding sheep, and that she was very happy with this. It was not what she said at all in the letter she wrote to us The letter was completely different from what compassion.com translated into.! I stopped money immediately from being taken out of our account!

We have been sponsoring a child for 8 yrs. The last 2 yrs we decided to sponsor Christian Orphanages instead of Muslim. This is when the whole organisations problems were revealed. It took us 2 yrs to manage to cancel. We were met within every obstacle. Upon further investing we realised how little of our contributions actually reaches the need of the child. Massive marketing budgets (millions), inflated salaries at the top. We were so shocked. Stick without your local Christian orphanage. Fraud is rampant.

Some very dishonourable staff

I have sponsored over ten children over the past 20 years and I appreciate how Compassion Int. works with local churches to help release children from poverty; I have no complaints in that. However, the American branch has many issues. The pay to the CEO and top staff is nearly half a million per year, and since 2018 has remained undisclosed. From 2015-2018 it grew by nearly 30% (well above inflation). Customer support does a full profile review every call and requires multiple calls to accomplish simple tasks. Even four years after COVID, they still don't allow personal visits. Compassion Int. spent $1 million a year for exclusive child sponsorship rights with Hillsong which is a waste of money that has no benefit to children as it just hinders other child sponsorship organizations from also participating. They are in it for the money and see other child ministries as competition, rather than achieving the same goals. The blog is less transparent and feels overly sensationalized in its stories compared to the articles posted by other Compassion countries.

I’m a sponsor for Compassion International and have been for 5 years. The staff is knowledgeable and supportive. They send updates about communities my sponsored children live in. This means so much in light of recent conflicts and challenges. Compassion builds local relationships so that gifts beyond monthly sponsorship are delivered effectively to the child and the child’s family. The organization applies policies that protect the safety and confidentiality of sponsored children. Compassion International demonstrates excellence, integrity, and consistency in the high level of service they provide. Partnering with Compassion International as a sponsor is one of the best things I have ever done.
