Contracting without the stress
When I first started out as a contractor, I had a typical accountant (for my first couple of years working freelance) at the time I thought it was the only way to go with the usual telling them my income and expenses etc. and them filing my accounts for me each year. However, after a while I always felt that I did not know exactly where I was money wise and how much I owed in tax & vat. A colleague of mine put me onto what was then known as CMEasy and it was like a big weight lifted off my shoulders. They would advise me how much money could be drawn from the company salary & expenses wise each month and when and how much money in dividends could also be drawn still leaving enough for everything else to be covered. This for me was exactly what I needed, to be confident that the company was not going into debt with unforeseen bills etc. (these can arrive months after you would expect them to, and without realizing you can easily get into a right mess.) More recently I have changed over to their Cogent service and again I could not be happier with the support. My main contact there is Mark Dowling, he is always happy to help me with pretty much anything I need to know about my company accounts. From setting up new companies, forecasts, dividends, adjusting salaries, what expenses I can claim and support with company/personal tax returns every year. I highly recommend their services – good value for money and excellent for piece of mind.

I deal with Cogent on a weekly basis for my limited company invoices via FreeAgent and tax submissions. I have always found them very responsive to queries. Once contacted I usually get a call or follow up email within a few hours, which is great. Can’t recommend enough. Great service and proactive help.

I joined Cogent (previously known as CMEasy) in 2005 when I first started contracting, and I can honestly say that over the past 18 years I cannot remember any occasion when I have had reason to complain about the level of service from the whole team. My main point of contact (Mark Dowling) is always happy to provide advice and guidance for any aspect of contracting, from the initial engagement, setting up my limited company, conducting annual assessments and financial projections, and of course the support with company/personal tax returns every year. Excellent Accounting company that I…
Excellent Accounting company that I have used for many years, over that period the accounting software has evolved is easy to use and understand even with my limited knowledge. The staff at Cogent are always courteous and respond to any issues I have had within the same day if not sooner with their in depth knowledge base across the whole spectrum of running a limited company and the sometimes complex tax issues that come with that. My personal advisor within the company is Mark Dowling who has always guided me through the system and is happy to run through it again and again if I am struggling to understand first time, he has always been patient and professional in his approach.

Excellent service by everyone at Cogent
Excellent service by everyone at the company, but particularly from Mark Dowling. I am not the most financially astute, but Mark (in particular) simply talks me through everything in language that I understand (and I am learning along the way). The use of the FreeAgent software is really good too, as both I and Cogent can see exactly what is going on with my business. Been with them for years and not had to think about going anywhere else for my business accounts or personal taxes.

Cogent make accounting easy and stress free. Their online system enables me to understand money in and out of my company, pay salaries and track expenses. I have a contact who looks after me and always explains things I don't understand patiently and clearly. Their fees are very reasonable.

It's all good
I've been with Cogent now for 6 years & joined when they were CMEasy, they came highly recommended by other contractors with Ltd Company's & the service has been second to none. They have provided great advice on managing finances whilst running a Ltd Co along with the new Freeagent software which is very useful indeed.
