After years of neglect due to a lifelong dread of dentists, and following some bad experiences as a child, acute embarassment finally forced me into facing up to my fears and doing something about the poor state of my teeth. After a bit of online research I decided that Clinic Pacifico in Albufeira on Portugal's Algarve (where my wife and I now live) looked like a practice which might well accommodate my anxieties.

My first preliminary examination with Dr McKean went some way to making me feel considerably more at ease, as he very thoroughly dispelled (and in the nicest possible way) the basis of all my fears and anxieties. Dr. McKean also came up with a plan, over a number of appointments, to restore both my smile and, most crucially, my confidence in my daily communications with people.

My second appointment with Dr McKean was the most fearful from my point of view as it entailed a number of extractions (my greatest fear). This went exceptionally well and was completely free of any form of pain or stress. I really cannot put into words how happy I was at the completion of this procedure. The whole experience (as I toldDr McKean) has completely restored my faith in Dentists and Dentistry. So much so, that I am now looking forward to the next stage of my treatment.

Split my tooth. It was Sunday so I dropped an email to Clinica Pacifico explaining my dilemma and concerns and asking for an appointment On Monday or Tuesday. I stressed my concerns about my tooth and asked for HELP!!! I got an email in response, the only thing it said was "are you a patient". There was nothing else, it was not even addressed to me. I replied I was not a patient, but I had no further email. So I phoned the clinic. I explained to the woman who answered about me email and broken tooth and said I had an email only saying "are you a patient". The woman laughed and said she would have called me but didn't because my email had no telephone number (she could have emailed me). I explained again about my problem and asked for an appointment and she sighed and offered me Wednesday. Obviously she was not interested in my problem or my request for an urgent appointment. In the end I went to Cris Piessens clinic - fabulous service, by people who care. I would not recommend using any other dental practice, you need to be with a company who cares about you as a patient.
