CJ holidays are expensive for me but the three I've experienced have been completely worth it. I find that I prefer the walking tours that are more cultural experience than hiking, like Cornwall and the Cotswolds, because I like to take my time and take lots of photos, and I remembered why I like walking quietly apart from the crowd. The Scottish highlands tour put more emphasis on hiking and I found that walking in the woods was not especially appealing to me because it looked much like home, but I absolutely loved the Fife coastal walk and the walk on the Isle of May. Spectacular views and something new for me. I am slow but I have plenty of stamina, just felt pushed keeping up with the group. There were indeed opportunities for shorter/easier alternatives to the main hike, as advertised, but sometimes getting to that splitting point was challenging for those of us who like a slower pace. Also, the two hotels out in the countryside were lovely but I find that I prefer lodging in a town so I can walk out the door and explore easily. Organizing a taxi to go into Inverness and St. Andrews for dinner seemed like just that little bit too much for me, and I know I was not alone. I don't feel like I really saw Inverness or the town of St. Andrews but our guides did take the time to give us a quick drive around so we could at least see some of the major attractions. Next time I will choose a trip with a pace and focus more like Cornwall and the Cotswolds. CJ could make it easier to choose from the catalogue because I've found it difficult to tell which tours are really more like the Cornwall and Cotswolds experiences. Having said that - I loved this Highlands trip with my whole heart, had the time of my life! I've traveled with groups dozens of times over the years, and this trip was simply one of the best.
