Professor Helen Brough is a Consultant in Paediatric Allergy and Clinical Immunology and was the head of service at the Evelina London Children’s Hospital, Guy’s and St. Thomas’ Hospital between 2015 and 2023 where she led the largest Children’s Allergy Service in the UK. She has specific interests in food allergy prevention, diagnosis and treatment, immunotherapy, asthma, eosinophilic gastrointestinal disorders and eczema. She jointly runs the joint asthma and allergy service at the Evelina London. She co-authored two landmark studies on the prevention of food allergy, is the lead investigator for the Pronuts study (assessing peanut, sesame and tree nut allergy) and is an investigator for the oral and patch peanut desensitisation trials at the Evelina London. Professor Brough has published multiple original research articles as well as published a textbook, she also regularly presents her research both nationally and internationally and is a Reader at King’s College London. She has written reviews on the active management and prevention of food allergies, dietary management of peanut allergy and risks of exposure to food in the environment in allergic patients. She is the Chair of the Paediatric Section for the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (EAACI). She organised the Annual National Allergy Meeting for the British Society of Allergy and Clinical Immunology from 2013-2016 and the European Allergy (EAACI) Congress in 2020. She was awarded the 2020 Distinguished Clinician Award by the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology, the Barry Kay award for excellence in Paediatric Allergy research from the British Society for Allergy and Clinical Immunology in 2013, and Health Professional of the Year’ runner-up in 2010 by Coeliac UK. Understanding As a parent herself, Professor Brough knows how distressing and concerned a parent can be when dealing with their child’s condition. All consultations are child-centred and we will always give you and your child enough time to fully discuss all concerns, guiding and supporting you both through treatment plans. We pride ourselves that a common thread across all our reviews is that we are thorough and take time to explain conditions and treatments with all our patients. Sometimes parents can find it hard to remember all the information that is discussed during their child’s consultation. So, we always follow up every appointment with a consultation letter, detailing everything that was discussed during your consultation. Our team At Children’s Allergy Doctors, we make it easy for you to select an appointment with us, and at a time that suits you. All appointments can be directly booked online, or by telephone. We have an experienced Practice Manager and a Medical Secretary who manage the secretarial, billing and administration of my practice. From appointment booking, communicating with parents, assisting with queries, or taking payments, they are dedicated to providing an excellent, friendly service to every patient and will be able to answer any queries that you may have. Education: Professor Brough graduated from King’s College, Cambridge University, with double honours in Medicine and Experimental Psychology, before completing her clinical training at the Royal Free & University College London Medical School. She trained in Paediatrics in South London Paediatric training rotation, and was then awarded one of the few recognised Higher Specialist Training posts in Paediatric Allergy and Immunology. Professor Brough trained in some of the UK’s leading teaching hospitals: Guy’s and St. Thomas’ Hospital, King’s College Hospital, and Great Ormond Street Hospital. Therefore, holds have dual accreditation and am on the specialist register for both General Paediatrics and Paediatric Allergy. She and is also certified by the European Academy of Allergology and Clinical Immunology (EAACI) as a European Paediatric Allergist. She has also completed an MSc in Allergy, gaining a distinction at the University of Southampton and was subsequently awarded a PhD in determining routes of developing peanut allergy, at King’s College London University. Clinical studies and publications: Professor Brough co-authored two landmark studies on the prevention of food allergy, and is the lead investigator for the Pronuts study (assessing peanut, sesame and tree nut allergy), and an investigator for the oral and patch peanut desensitisation trials, which are currently running at the Evelina London. She has published multiple original research articles as well as published a textbook, Rapid Paediatrics Professor Brough regularly presents her research; both nationally and internationally and is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at King’s College London. She has written reviews on the active management and prevention of food allergies, dietary management of peanut allergy and risks of exposure to food in the environment in allergic patients, and is also at the forefront of research on desensitisation to nuts.

We love Dr Brough!
I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Dr Brough to anyone. We’ve been doing the sesame updosing programme with our daughter and have seen incredible progress. Dr Brough is extremely caring, personable and efficient. The whole team have made something that could be quite stressful, a joy.

Highly recommended
Dr Brough had an excellent, professional manner. She explained our options, the various pros and cons, and allowed us to take account of her recommendations without in any way being pushy. She was also great with my son, who as a 15 year old can be a bit sensitive about being treated like a child!

Knowledgeable, thorough, precise.
Dr Brough is very knowledgeable and reassuring. She was able to diagnose the causes of my son's ezcema with speed and accuracy. She then created a care plan which is easy to understand and follow. Dr Brough has a very 'human' approach and seems to care about the patients she sees.

Dr Helen was very good at diagnosing my son's allergies. Would throughly recommend her to anyone who is experiencing issues, my son is 12 and had been experiencing intermittent pain, we have also been working with dieticians/ nutritionists, and gastro specialists and the whole experience from start to finish was super efficient and I can't fault it, she put our anxieties at ease and also really helped highlight the allergy connection with asthma etc, I'm very happy with our choice and the help she gave us. -thank you to Dr Helen. I also appreciated the ability to have the follow up virtually with my work commitments I found that to be helpful. Thanks again.

Fantastic and supportive Dr
I am incredibly glad we reached out to Dr Brough, her her help and advice has significantly improved my daughter's quality of life and in turn ours as a family. My daughter was diagnosed with asthma at about age 3, and put on a series of standard inhalers, sometimes in vast quantities. Despite this she ended up having to have antibiotics 5 times in 12 months for ongoing coughs and seemed to be picking up everything possible. We were lucky enough to be able to afford private, having been at breaking point with the NHS system (which I love but wasn't helping our daughter). In just one appointment she had been allergy tested, had blood tests arranged and was given new inhalers. Aside from a bout of tonsillitis she's been free of lingering coughs and antibiotics for 7 months, and seems to be able to fight off infection far better. Her appetite has increased dramatically and she's missed only 1 day of school due to illness - unlike the previous term and her time in nursery where we even had a teacher talk to us about her absence due to illness. I could not be more thankful we found Dr Brough, she clearly explained everything and we have had a follow up too.

We have been seeing Dr Brough for almost two years now for various allergy issues. Dr Brough (and her staff) are all caring and patient and I feel at ease with my child under her care. Dr. Brough explains everything in detail and welcomes any questions I have had during the course of my child's allergy testing. I have also learned a great deal about allergy awareness as well. I highly recommend her for any treatment needed.

Great Relief
Dr Brough seemed to listen to our concerns regarding my toddler; The moment she prescribed the right medication it has been a game changer, not just for us but for him who has suffered with ongoing coughs for over 6 months, where the GP didn't want to prescribed anything; Within 4 weeks of visiting Dr Brough, my son has had a cough which has lasted days instead of weeks which is fabulous!
