The survey was extremely useful and identified a significant number of improvement areas the majority being relatively easy and inexpensive to address with some more significant improvement possibilities / projects.
The survey process was very well described both in emails and a pre survey telephone appointment and then by the surveyor (Rob) who checked my understanding and set the scene further prior to commencement.
Rob was very friendly and knowledgeable he provided lots of good practical improvement advice during the survey identifying various options and in some cases where to get further advice.

This was a fascinating survey (made affordable by use of a voucher from Refrofit West), which demonstrated just how much heat we were loosing as a result of small holes and gaps around our window frames etc. Jo was excellent and spent four hours with us going room to room and evidencing the source of all manner of draughts. Many of these were easy to rectify so a real quick win in terms of improving the heat retention and energy efficiency of our home.

Chris, from the Bristol Cheese project, spent around 4 hours investigating heat loss samples all around the house. The front door is temporarily sealed with what looks like a tent entrance and a big extractor fan. That draws air all through the house from the outside, which is colder than inside [winter only ]. That in turn is scanned with a thermal camera. There are 2 camera screens, one the customer can hold and view, which is very helpfull. You, can then see heat loss results which can be acted upon, when you plan it. Example : drafty doors, loft hatch's. Chris was very helpfull ,and went with one of my suggestions of investigation. I have some fairly new UPVC windows, and the closing seals are not good, so I have gaffer taped them up in winter, pending replacement. So I asked Chris to record with tape, result pretty good. I recovered tape, then recorded again, result poor ! Answer, get much better fixed seals, which I have done ! I had some interesting chat with Chris, and would thoroughly recommend him. A lot of info to take in, brilliantly you get a USB stick of all videos and stills ,so you can run back and check.

A voucher covering my postcode area made the Cheese project survey very affordable. Rob who completed the survey was excellent. Rob was on time, knowledgeable, professional and encouraging about how to tackle improvements. It turns out that lots of things are easy small jobs. And I now understand a lot more about where draughts are coming from. This has increased my confidence about the value of acting. I just now need to find the time! Highly recommend.

I was a bit clueless about it all but know we needed to sort out some drafts and work out where we were losing hear if we were going to fit a heat pump. Used a voucher which made it affordable. There were lots of reminders and communication about how to prepare for the survey and when Jo arrived she was friendly and explained everything clearly and in a way I could understand. She also gave loads of helpful advice on how we could fix some of the drafts in very affordable ways - thank you!

I got the survey on a voucher so it was super good value. Really good, impartial and practical advice. Recommended lots of easy and cheap things to fix. Would definitely recommend.

I highly recommend the CHEESE survey. it was very thorough and comprehensive. I live in a 1930s house, and it is very difficult to know where all the draughts are coming from, as there are old fixtures and fittings that have been added over the years and others that have been blocked off and covered up, but still let in draughts With the thermal camera is is possible to see where the draughts are. The survey was quick and professional and very informative. I was given lots of extra advice. Many thanks :)

The thermographic survey of our property was comprehensive and insightful. Our surveyor, Chris, had a lot of experience both in performing the surveys and in suggesting ideas about what we could do to remedy the issues that were shown by the thermal imaging camera. Some were simple fixes, like using sealant to fill gaps where cold air was leaking in, other issues shown would require a longer-term approach (e.g.: fixing the lack of insulation above the bay window). I would completely recommend this to anyone looking for effective ways to improve the thermal efficiency of their home.

I would recommend a Cheese Project energy survey. It highlighted practical things to reduce heat loss - things I hadn't thought of like insulating the hob extractor pipe work. The surveyor was very professional and it was a good experience.

The Cheese-worker was with us for about four hours. Each room was looked at individually. A fan is used to pull air through the house and identify the sources of draft - in combination with a heat sensitive camera. The whole survey, including what was spoken during the survey, is delivered on a memory stick. Ours is an old and complex house and I learned a lot of things about where we needed draft exclusion and insulation. I have already done about x6 improvements and there are at least another x20 on the list. I would highly recommend getting this done. It is good value for money with the subsidies available. It takes quite a while and your house will be pretty cold whilst the fan is on. One example - we discovered that a newly fitted window was very drafty because the insulating brushes were too short. I contacted the company (Caddys) and they fixed the problem for us in under a fortnight. Our bathroom is appreciably warmer now.

Very good experience to get a comprehensive report using new technology. Ideally this service should be available to all Cold Home dwellers who could benefit enormously. I think the thoroughness of this report was impressive and having it recorded on a USB to refer to a great idea.Get it done ASAP you won't regret it!

Very thorough survey accompanied by lots of suggestions, many of which are very do-able and not too expensive. Would highly recommend as several easy fixes could be applied the next day to stop a few significant drafts; other/more extensive jobs can be incorporated later on (but good to know now what needs attention).

Before you can fix a problem, you have to know where the problem is. Best part, I don't have to remember as they provided both video and photo's of everything. In addition, some ideas on how to fix things.
I now know where the problems are and potential fixes for them. Can't ask for more :)

Very efficient and informative experience, it was great to see where the cold spots and drafts were in the house. The surveyor was friendly and helpful, and spoke clearly without using jargon. We now have a lot of information that will help make our house warmer and cheaper to run.

Long process which I was told about at start. My attention faded after the first hour and my notes became less. But that is the beauty of having it all recorded and given on a memory stick. A lot of obvious areas which I’d tried to tackle myself. Other suggestions - dig up concrete floor - never going to happen. But a range of suggestions which are more pocket friendly. Best highlight which has made an incredible difference and I was unaware of - a velux with an open air vent. Now closed courtesy of a fantastic and helpful roofer close by. House temperature now averages 14 rather than the 12 degrees and noticeably so. Have recommended to friends.

Jo from the Cheese Project carried out a thermal survey of our house and spent about 2 1/2 hours carefully checking the house for draughts, cold spots, gaps in window frames etc. She was very thorough and gave advice on how to put things right. At the end of the survey she left us with a memory stick showing a film of everything she looked at and what she had discussed with us, which will be a useful reminder of what we can do to make our house warmer. Most of the tips she gave us would be cheap and easy for us to do ourselves. Jo is very knowledgeable about buildings and pleasant to talk to.

We had our survey performed by Jo early December 2024. I chose to delay writing my review until now in order to be able to report the outcome of initial remedial works. We endorse the comments made by many other reviewers regarding the performance of the survey, the qualifications and professionalism of the surveyor and the insights provided by the output of the excercise. Not only that, Jo was a delight to talk to during the time that she was tracking down all of the heat loss locations in our property. We have a fair few leaks to deal with, some fairly hefty, others less so. We have plugged a significant leak located at the joint where a sloping extension roof abuts an older stone wall using carded sheep wool band - the type that is modified to be inimical to moth attack. The result has been immediate and beneficial, with a significant reduction in draughts and improvement in overall comfort. On the basis that the biggest part of the cost was covered by the Retrofit West voucher I have no doubt that this exercise will have been extremely beneficial and cost effective in the long run.

Great service completely recommend. There were drafts coming ftom places we wouldn't have imagined and we could clearly see defective loft insulation above a room.

From initial contact, through booking and the actual survey this is an outstanding service.
The whole process was explained in depth, the aims and motives were explained clearly and all questions were answered openly, clearly and without bias.
The survey itself was an excellent experience, the surveyor was honest, open, massively qualified and experienced, but above all, someone who had actually used the survey and gave real world experience and suggestions.
There was no "hard sell" of anything, no brand names, but there was lots of common sense, practical suggestions and advice on how to improve my homes energy efficiency.
I would/have recommended this project to anyone, it really is exactly what it says it is!
