I have been to several of Mike's landscape painting courses, each time has been hugely enjoyable and an opportunity to learn (without any pressure) from a great artist. Both Emma and Mike are excellent hosts, putting everyone at ease and the lunches (not to forget the mid morning cakes) are always a delight. Set in beautiful surroundings with excellent company, I would recommend this to anyone.

A Garden Party to remember in a beautiful setting - fantastic food, good company and great weather. Emma and Mike, you really know how to put on a 'do' - thank you for a perfect day.

Both Emma and Mike are excellent teachers and have the experience to bring out ones, possibly unknown, potential. Bradness Gallery is set in the heart of the East Sussex in idyllic countryside just a few miles north of Lewes. You will be assured of a professional, cheery and instructive experience. I always come away feeling renewed and look forward the next time!

I have been coming to Bradness Gallery courses for many years now and I suspect I am totally addicted! To the gloriously warm and welcoming Emma and Mike, to the truly delicious and original cakes and lunches, to the riotously beautiful garden. And all that is before I even get to the courses which have been so important to me on my very bumpy painting journey. I have learnt so much, always felt supported and free to work in my own way with inspiring and knowledgeable help always available when needed. Thank you Emma and Mike!

Bradness Gallery is like a little piece of heaven where we always receive the warmest of welcomes.
I came on a three day flower painting course last year and it was so enjoyable. It was relaxing, fun, with gentle, kind, encouraging, patient and, of course, expert tutoring from Emma. I would happily come every year - I am sure it must be so much better than a Spa Day!
The lunches are such a treat too and Mike is always there with a friendly smile (and wine!) - the conversation flows effortlessly. When weather permits it is served in the gorgeous garden in true Larkin style
I also have two of Emma's beautiful lampshades which bring me joy every day and evening
We have come for coffee and delicious homemade cake on numerous occasions, and first came when the garden was so generously opened for the NGS.
Mike and Emma's art is stunning - they are such talented people. I would highly recommend a visit or booking on a course. A voucher would make a fantastic present too
By the way, Mike and Emma are not paying me for this review (!!) - I just can't recommend them and all they do more highly.
I can't wait to come to the Garden Party on 8th May!....

Prior to the course I felt a huge hesitation on my part. Having eventually plucked up the "courage" to go to the first course; Flower Painting with Emma. It was a magical experience. Emma is an excellent teacher. She creates such an environment that is conducive to seamless learning. She is patient and eager to help when you get stuck. I then attended my second course; Colour Mixing and Theory which was equally outstanding; to the point, consistent, with enough detail and demonstrations. When you left you felt you had learned something. Her passion and dedication is beyond words.
Both Emma and Michael are warm, friendly and fun. They also have great taste in home cooked food which was included.
I look forward to my next course.

I have been on a couple of Emma's courses - flower painting and the colour course. Emma is a delightful and encouraging teacher and most of all, makes the whole course so much fun. The food is amazing and I can't recommend these courses highly enough.

Having found Bradness Gallery when I first moved to this area - visiting with my mother and sister for tea and cake - it has become a place I return to often. I have taken three of Emma's courses - all of which I thoroughly enjoyed, learned a lot, and appreciate Emma's teaching style, advice and wisdom. I always book on the follow on days as these are so delightful - to paint for a day with other like minded folk, to chat and share, to sit in the beautiful garden for tea or coffee, and to pick up other little nuggets of artist information. I persuaded my sister to come on a Flower Painting Course - having never painted before - and she had such a good time, she has become totally addicted to painting. I love it! That's what Mike and Emma do at Bradness - they are an inspirational couple. Thank you for being there.

Bradness Gallery is a very special place, created and run by Emma Burnett and Micheal Cruikshank.
On arrival you you immediately feel at ease in such a stunning location and Garden, a little enclave of Sussex paradise.
Emma and Mike are truly inspirational, not only for there beautiful paintings, lampshades and cards, but I also highly recommend their short creative courses too - what a great experience and so well put together - all complimented by delicious homemade food - lunch in the garden and meeting new friends was a real treat.
I’m already looking forward to next time!

Bradness gallery is quite simply a very special place. It is soul food. A haven, offering beautiful art, warmth, beauty, inspiration and tranquility.
The painting courses are wonderful. I am a beginner and have done Emma's flower painting course twice. Whilst a huge art lover I was lacking in confidence about my own ability. Under Emma's excellent instruction I quickly lost my inhibitions, and surprised myself by producing some work I would never have previously imagined. I would like to try all the courses offered by both artists. The gallery location with its stunning garden is also a treat, and feast for the senses. The gallery, hosting both Michael and Emma's beautiful artwork so worth a visit. Michael's beautiful landscape paintings of Sussex, Cornwall and France (to name but a few) are unique and exceptional in their use of light and mood. Quite magical. Emma's abstract and floral paintings with her use of colour are also just beautiful. I own three of their prints and quite a number of Emma's amazing hand painted lampshades. They literally 'make' a room, offering a whole new look and feel. I have received many compliments about them,
Both artists genuine warmth and passion for what they do is infectious, leaving you feeling inspired, nourished, invigorated and enveloped in a special 'after glow'. The courses, also accompanied by delicious home cooked lunches, actually make the whole experience a mini holiday. I cannot recommend this gallery, its courses and wonderful owners highly enough. You will not be disappointed.

My sister and I did a 3 day watercolour course with Emma a little while ago and we thoroughly enjoyed it.
Emma is an excellent teacher and made the experience fun and very informative. The setting, relaxed atmosphere and not forgetting the delicious food are not forgotten. I hope to return to do another course sometime soon.

Bradness Gallery is my happy place, I return several times a year to do follow up painting days having done several courses. Mike and Emma are so encouraging and positive, and under their tutelage my paintings have improved immensely.
Also it is always such fun as there are other like-minded people to chat to, especially at yummy lunchtimes. We always have coffee and lunch outside in the lovely garden when the weather is kind, and the feeling of being miles away from anywhere adds an extra feeling of well being as the birds sing and the cows pass by over the fence.

We discovered Michael's lovely gallery whilst out walking and received a very warm welcome. He is clearly very passionate about his painting and extremely talented. We were absolutely over the moon with painting we commissioned from him and would highly recommend a visit.

How to explain the Bradness Gallery? This place is so unique.
Although I cannot draw very well I love painting abstracts and on the courses I have attended Emma has encouraged me to feel free to express things in my own way whilst passing on her endless
technical knowledge and advice.
All this in a beautiful setting and with delicious food.

The Bradness Gallery is a happy place. Whether you go to learn or just to look I feel sure you will enjoy it and leave feeling somehow enriched.

My husband bought me a course for my birthday and never having painted was very afraid of being embarressed by my offering. I need not have worried the positive, friendly, atmostphere and supportive teaching gave me so much encouragement. Apart from all that the gorgeous lunches, beautiful setting and Emma and Mikes fun relaxed style sealed it for me. I have since booked other courses. It's addictive

I have thoroughly enjoyed the three courses I have been on at Bradness! Two with Emma and one with Michael. They are excellent artists and teachers and are very different in their styles. I have learnt a lot with both of them, using acrylics and watercolour. Painting flowers and abstract with Emma and landscape with Michael. The whole day is a wonderful experience! It's not just about the painting but also their hospitality in their lovely home, serving delicious food and making new friends!

Everything about Bradness Gallery is 5 star 💫 . It has I feel an aura about it that is well quite unique. Welcoming without a doubt, creative obviously, peaceful but above all else such a happy place to be for whatever reason your visit is for. I have shared many an hour there with friends over delicious home made cake and tea or having fun trying to choose a hand painted lampshade when there are so many sumptuous ones to choose from. Reading reviews gives you a ball park idea of a place but I can only suggest you try a visit in person.....I don’t think you will be disappointed!

I've been lucky enough to do several courses with Mike (landscape painting) and Emma (flower painting and colour theory); they are both great teachers and I keep coming back for more! I'm already looking forward to the abstract course with Emma in just a few weeks time. I have met some really friendly and enthusiastic fellow painters, some of whom were complete beginners and others who've painted for years - it really doesn't matter as Mike and Emma ensure that everyone can work at their own pace and level.
Their warm welcome and generous hospitality are always much anticipated and appreciated!
