Dr. Martin Wiese fixed my umbilical hernia. Because it was a 'medium' hernia, it required a 'sugar mesh,' which gradually dissolves over the following 18 months. Martin and his team were highly professional and very friendly. I recommend them without reservation.

In 4 maanden tijd aan 2 liesbreuken geopereerd, eerst rechts en een paar maanden later links. Ik ben uitermate tevreden over het hele traject. Biohernia is de ideale partner om alles perfect te regelen in NL. Dr. Koch is een zeer ervaren chirurg. Wat ik ook als zeer prettig ervaren heb, is dat dr. Koch ook een zeer vriendelijk en betrokken mens is! Als fysiotherapeut met 30 jaar ervaring in de gezondheidszorg is dit echt een uitzondering. Ook zijn team mag ik een dikke pluim geven: wát een vriendelijk, betrokken en professionele mensen! Ook dit draagt bij aan een goed en versneld herstel, zo is mijn ervaring. GEEN matje dus! ;)

Dr. Andreas Koch is a leading expert in hernia repair in Europe. He has massive experience with biorepair (Shouldice) of inguinal and femoral hernia. This is in short, the strongest argument to have your hernia operated by him.
I came across BioHernia through a friend. I had reasons to prefer non-mesh hernia repair. I was lucky to get an appointment in Amsterdam within 2 weeks and to be able to be operated the following week.
Everything went like breeze. Some minor hiccups with transportation but largely due to my not accurately reading the instructions from Nahom (Biohernia in Amsterdam). Nahom also deserves credits as he seems always for question when needed. This kind of personal attention is essential in a process requiring foreign travel and hospitals.
The infrastructure of the clinics in Cottbus has an Old-fashioned Eastern Germany flavor.
But again: a very personal approach by all clinics, anesthesiology, surgery, and recovery personnel. I prefer this combination hands-down above a flashy private clinic with barista coffee but uninvolved nurse and doctors!
The Hotel where you stay in Cottbus before and after surgery is obviously not a hospital and I had the impression they prefer tourists. Nevertheless, it was clean, served a nice breakfast and it is conveniently located close to the picturesque Cottbus village center, with plenty good restaurants and bars.
Little advice: there is room for improvement on the instructions for pain killers; even for me as a physician a bit too much DIY.
The taxi ride to airport (Berlin) is long, but that was a small sacrifice for an all-in-all satisfactory experience.

End august I had my double inguinal hernia repaired by Bio Hernia in Cottbus.

The operation itself: I arrived the day before at 15.30 from Holland by train(8 hours door to door). Had my intake meeting for next day.

Went back to Hotel, stop eating and drinking at 2200. No issue.

Arrived next day at 11.30, scheduled for 12.30. At Arrival I got a pil to get in a relaxed state. Fell asleep at around 12.00. Woke up 14.45, operated. Left the hospital room by around 16.00, walked with the taxi driver to the taxi to go to Hotel. First 24 hours you have to be careful. I walked as much as I could. Next day I had a Lymph massage, which is advisable. You feel the activating effect. Every day doctor Koch comes to the Hotel to check. You will get fresh bandages and pain killers. Which I used for 4 days.

The 2nd and 3rd days walking distance become longer.

Cottbus is a lovely city, with a lot of good coffee locations to relax and various food/restaurants of good quality. I enjoyed this relaxing week very much. The weather was lovely.

My wife was with me with her sister. The first 4 days they had their own program, went to Berling which is 1.45 hours by train.

Hotel is cheap also for the sister of my wife.

As I had a double hernia I had to stay till Sunday which was fine.

Travelling back by train was so easy, no pain sitting or walking.

Al together I would never have chosen a different solution. It is amazing that most countries do everything with a mesh, and people do not want that. Appearantly for the same price Dr Koch does his operation. My Treatment was paid by insurance, not because I have a very expensive insurance, but because I have an extra clause for medical care in Europe. This is in Holland not such an expensive extension of insurance.

I can only recommend the complete team of intake Nahom (in Holland/Amsterdam), Dr Koch and his team, the hotel.

I had irritation to a nerve and was booked in to have a neurectomy (left side only). I approached Biohernia and Dr Koch for a second opinion. Dr Koch explained that he could remove some of the mesh from a previous hernia operation and release pressure from the nerve and avoid a neurectomy being needed.
I flew over the Germany from the UK and met with Nahom (Biohernia) and went to the pre consultation with Dr Koch, the day before the surgery. I was shocked when I saw that the operation was to be carried out using an open technique, as my mesh was placed laparoscopically. I had emails from other experienced surgeons explaining that laparoscopic mesh should only be removed laparoscopically as it is less invasive and an open removal could leave me in debilitating pain. I had messages from Dr Sheen, Dr Kangs secretary and Sharin Towfi (all highly respected individuals in the industry) all advising that laparoscopic mesh should be removed laparoscopically. I showed these messages to Nahom and was visibly distressed and in shock after finding out Dr Koch plans to do an open procedure. Nahom explained said ‘IT WAS THE BEST WAY, DR KOCH ONLY CUTS THROUGH CONNECTIVE TISSUE’. I went into the pre consultation room and Dr Koch repeated ‘IT WAS THE BEST WAY, DON’T WORRY I HAVE DONE THIS HUNDREDS OF TIMES’. Still in shock, I returned to the hotel and was numb. I frantically looked through all the reviews and had a sleepless night.
The following morning, I decided that I couldn’t go through with the operation. I messaged Nahom early (06.30) and asked him to meet me in the lobby in the hotel. He didn’t respond to my message. As I had already paid for the operation (a significant amount) I thought it was best I went to hospital and explain myself to Dr Koch and ask for a refund. On arrival I repeated that I was uncomfortable with the procedure and again attempted to show him the messages. Dr Koch put his arm on my shoulder and said ‘I WOULD DO THIS TECHNIQUE FOR MY FAMILY, I HAVE BEEN TO COUNTLESS CONFERENCES AND IT’S THE BEST WAY’. When I heard these words (especially about family), I thought he must be right, and sat on the bed I would be going into theatre in. When I sat down, I froze, couldn’t move and said to the nurse that I’m not comfortable with this (I was a rabbit in headlights, even though I’ve had previous hernia surgeries and never hesitated once). Suddenly Nahom appeared as he was viewing operations and asked me what was wrong. I repeated what I said the previous day, that I was not comfortable with the operation as the technique he was going to use was wrong in my opinion. At this point or any other point over the previous day, Nahom and Dr Koch both failed to listen to me. I believe anyone with compassion would say ‘if you’re not comfortable then we are not comfortable, your needs come first’. Nahom just repeated ‘IT’S THE BEST WAY. DR KOCH GETS A BETTER VIEW DOING THE OPERATION USING AN OPEN TECHNIQUE’. I folded to the pressure and went ahead with the surgery.
Waking up after the operation I was told by Dr Koch and Nahom that the mesh had bulged and entrapped the nerve. The surgery was a success and I would be free to return to normal activities after four weeks.
Following the surgery, I have been in EXTREME PAIN which is constant (pre surgery I only had mild symptoms after doing sporting activities) and have never experienced anything like it. Constant pain in the left testicle and a new constant stabbing pain in the lower abdomen (feels like I have been stabbed with a knife). There is no relief and it’s been MONTHS since the operation. I have a 2-year-old and a 6-year-old. I am no longer able to play games with them, take them swimming or take part in a little kick around like I could before the operation. My daughter keeps asking me when I’m going to get better, which kills me inside. Unfortunately, my love ones suffer the most as the procedure has changed me. I also had to give up the idea of pursuing a new career (which was arranged for September 2023). I had a consultation six weeks post op and was advised by Dr Koch to take herbal medication. Safe to say I don’t feel enthusiastic about getting in touch with him again.
I have recently been to see a local specialist in the UK and he was shocked by the open approach used to remove laparoscopically placed mesh. He said if the mesh had bulged it would have shown up on my scans. He has been a specialist for years and has never known anyone do this procedure this way. I’m not sure where I go from here and I’m not sure I will make any kind of recovery. My mental health has plummeted alongside my physical health. I struggled to concentrate on anything other than the pain.
I have never left a negative review before but if I can just prevent one person making the same mistake I have, then it will be worth it.

I had hernia repair 2017 through NHS . Mesh was implanted ever since I’ve always had an excruciating pain. I researched how this mesh can be removed and repaired without any harm to my body and that took me to Bio Hernia. My first line of contact was Nahom who organised a video consultation with Dr Koch. I chose Biohernia because of concerns over mesh repair. Dr Muschaweck explained everything very well. A visual and ultrasound scan confirmed double inguinal hernia. Wellington Hospital was everything an NHS hospital should be if adequate funding was provided. From admission to departure all staff were 5*.
The operation was under local anaesthetic with sedation but I don't recall any of it!! No real pain afterwards Three days of medication to be on the safe side. Stitches out after 10 days. All healing nicely. If you can afford it I can't recommend it too highly.

The whole experience was excellent and very well organised and pleasant from start to end.

Nahom was my first point of contact and had clear, precise and thoughtful answers and great response times in the pre and post care.

At Cottbus, Dr Koch and whole his staff were very capable, honest and very confident. Dr Koch has a comforting approach and is very good at putting one’s mind at ease before the surgery. The surgery went very well and the recovery was within the time frame Dr Koch advised. Everything went smoothly in Cottbus. Dr Koch provided the aftercare daily post surgery in Cottbus. Its been over 6 weeks now and I have been very happy with the results so far.

Almost I had an appointment made for an operation with a mesh, due to the many people I had spoken with, of whom most of them say they are content about their mesh.

Now, 4 weeks after the operation I feel like I can do all sorts of activities like sporting and working. Ofcourse it's not supposed to be challeging and overpressuring the limits of my physical abillities, though I sens that I may now increase pressure on the strain, in order to improve abillity and stimulate recovery.
Last night, after a long while, I was lucky to experience love making without notable barriers of physical limitations. It sure seems to have improved flexabillity, strenght and (ofcourse) healing.

My deepest grattitude to Dr.Koch, for not only the operation, but just as well , the integrety and dedication for support, witch was there all the time. Certain doubts and fears for going into anesthesia (for the first time), where easily converted to trust, by the convincing, clear and honest explanation, for what was going to be done!

Also I deeply thank all the involved co-workers in the clinic,who have assisted very pleassantly.

Het is 7 weken geleden dat ik ben geopereerd.
En wat ben ik blij dat ik na het consult in Amsterdam naar Cottbus ben afgereisd.
Ik (vrouw, 46) had een kleine liesbreuk aan de linkerkant. Dr. Koch heeft bij mij de “Marcy techniek” uitgevoerd.
Het litteken is netjes en minimaal, ik voel nog een klein bobbeltje maar elke dag wordt het minder. Alle hechtingen lossen via deze techniek op, en er blijf dus niks achter in het lichaam.
De eerste week was wel pijnlijk, verder weinig last gehad en kan nu eigenlijk alles weer.
De service was van begin tot eind excellent! Nahom is zeer behulpzaam en samen met Dr. Koch en zijn team ben je in goede handen!
In het hotel was alles super goed geregeld, van zakjes ijs tot lunch pakketjes voor na de operatie.
VGZ vergoed iets meer dan de helft (eigen risico gaat daar wel vanaf).
Stel dat ik aan de andere kant ook een liesbreuk zou krijgen zou ik zo weer afreizen naar Cottbus.

Dr. Koch is de beste die je kan vinden als je een liesbreuk hebt, nazorg in hotel ook erg goed, mensen vanuit heel Europa gesproken tijdens mijn operatie die er ook speciaal voor kwanen. Absoluut waard om naar Duitsland te rijden!

I had an inguinal hernia on my left side. I chose not to have a mesh repair due to the chronic pains many people experience and the uncertainty about long term condition of the mesh (although also a lot of people seem to do pretty well with mesh repair), and I also preferred the more tailor-made approach dr. Koch promotes. I met the criteria for a successful non-mesh repair (I.e. Good health, physically active, relatively young, hernia not too large) and decided this was my way to go.
Although going to a foreign country for surgery seemed a bit out there and not the easiest way to go, BioHernia perfectly guided the procedure. After the first consult in Amsterdam and decision to undergo the surgery at Dr. Koch's clinic, I was sent a treatment plan, cost overview, travel options, and a time schedule from arrival to end of the stay.
The pre-operative screening by Dr. Koch was clear and to the point. The surgery itself went very well, post-operative pain was most intense after the surgery but for sure bearable. Just try not to watch funny clips or have someone telling jokes since laughing is somehow painful afterwards, as is getting up and lying down. Walking was discomforting but doable. From then on the pain was gradually getting less, and only took pain killers on the first and second evening to be sure I had a good sleep, not for the pain per se. Then day by day I felt getting better, and 2 days post-surgery, I was out of pain sitting in the car on the way home.
Dr. Koch visited every day for wound check-up and asking about any complaints, which were not present in my case, so that was very good care.
Now it's been 6 weeks since the surgery had taken place and I can say the recovery went pretty fast. Although every body recovers at its own speed, in my case after six days I was more or less pain-free in all normal daily activities. After 2 weeks I returned to sports, but only light exercises, and used this period to experiment what my body was able to do: cycling, light strength exercise in an controlled or isometric way. You can feel some 'work' had been done in the groin area, but it wasn't painful. Day by day things got better and after 4 weeks there were no limitations anymore for me, although I didn't jump into explosive or maximal strength exercises, but preparing for that as recommended by classic periodized training programs.
So after all, it was totally worth it for me, the recovery was not any longer then as would be if I opted for the mesh repair, the guidance from BioHernia was very clear and punctual, and Dr. Koch a very capable, humble, no-nonsense doctor, with patient-specific needs in mind instead of a one-size-fits-all approach.
Only thing for the Dutch clients who have health insurance at Menzis might have a hard time getting the costs of the operation reimbursed... bureaucracy tends to be a bit more involved here in comparison to some other health insurance companies

Goede kliniek in Kelkheim en goede ondersteuning vanuit BioHernia.

First and foremost, Dr. Koch's surgical skills were nothing short of exceptional. His expertise in inguinal hernia repair instilled confidence and reassurance in me, and the procedure itself was executed flawlessly. Dr. Koch meticulously explained the surgery and its expected outcome, ensuring that I felt informed and comfortable throughout the entire process. The site of surgical incisions is extremely neat and tidy. So, for anyone worried about scarring, you will be pleased with the results.

The post-operative care provided by Dr. Koch and his team was unparalleled. They went above and beyond to ensure that I was comfortable, well-informed, and had everything I needed during my recovery. They closely monitored my progress, promptly addressed any concerns or questions, and consistently displayed genuine compassion and empathy. I was amazed at their attentiveness and dedication to ensuring my recovery was as smooth as possible

A massive thank you to Nahom at BioHernia, and to Dr Weise and his administrative and medical team in Kelkheim. The information provided by Nahom was very useful, and his planning of the operation and the hotel stay meant the whole experience was stress-free. There was a meeting with Dr Weise the day before the operation, to explain exactly what to expect both for the operation itself, and afterwards. The operation itself went very well and I was able (and instructed) to walk the same afternoon. Everything was very convenient - the clinic was across the road from the hotel, and next to the hotel was the start of a very pleasant walk/cycleway where I took regular strolls afterwards. I was in some discomfort for a few days after the operation - not continuously, but it peaked after the aneasthetic and painkillers had worn off - but this quickly subsided after a few days and by the end of the second week the pain had gone completely. It is now just over 6 weeks since the operation and there is still a little swelling where the surgery took place, but this is gradually reducing and the scar is also healing nicely. In terms of participating in sports and physical activities I feel back to normal, although I am going to be careful for a while to make sure I don't put the site under undue stress. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend BioHernia and Dr Weise to others who are looking to have an operation on an inguinal hernia without the use of mesh.

Na 2 maanden liesklachten werd er een liesbreuk vastgesteld door de chirurg en werd ik op de wachtlijst geplaatst, gemiddeld 88 dagen wachttijd en een operatie mét kunststofmatje. Beide wilde ik niet.
Op internet vond ik BioHernia, die snelle hulp toezegde en operatie zonder matje. Contactpersoon Nahom van BioHernia reageerde onmiddellijk op mijn mailtje. Op 22-5-23 heb ik mijn informatie doorgestuurd en op dezelfde dag kreeg ik bericht dat er op 31-5 een consult was gereserveerd bij dr. Wiese in Kelkheim (Frankfurt). Op 24-5 heb ik bevestigd dat ik zou komen. Nahom van BioHernia reageerde zeer adequaat op al mijn vragen. Hij reserveerde ook meteen een hotel tegenover het Gesundheidsklinikum. Op 31-5 werd ik gezien door dr. Wiese, een kundig en vriendelijke chirurg die zich gespecialiseerd heeft in liesbreukoperaties zonder matje met de Shouldice-methode. De volgende dag 's morgens geopereerd en 's middags 3 km gewandeld zonder klachten. We zijn nu 3 weken verder en mijn klachten zijn volledig verdwenen. Mijn dank gaat uit naar contactpersoon Nahom van BioHernia en dr. Wiese en zijn team in Kelkheim die dit zonder wachttijd mogelijk hebben gemaakt. Een aanrader voor iedereen met vergelijkbare klachten.

Após ser diagnosticado com uma dupla hérnia inguinal decidi pesquisar toda a informação disponível sobre esta cirurgia.
Como não queria ser operado com utilização de rede plástica devido á enorme percentagem de problemas encontrei a Biorhernia que promove a utilização da técnica de shouldice.
Todo o processo logístico desde transportes, estadia e pagamento foi explicado por Nahom da Biorhernia de forma detalhada.
Após uma vídeo consulta com o Dr Koch foi decidido operar apenas a hérnia que tinha sintomas. A operação foi marcada rapidamente e após duas semanas estava em Cottbus na Alemanha na clinica do Dr Koch para ser operado.
A operação correu muito bem e toda a equipa desde a anestesista e enfermeiras foram profissionais e atenciosos.
Acabei por ficar quatro dias a recuperar no excelente hotel Sorat no centro de Cottbus tendo o Dr Koch visitado todos os dias para acompanhar a recuperação.
O pós operatório é obviamente algo doloroso mas suportável e foram providenciados analgésicos o que facilitou o processo.
Passados seis semanas da cirurgia já não tinha qualquer tipo de dores e apenas uma ligeira sensação na área envolvente da cicatriz. Às oito semanas retomei as aulas de hidroginástica e tudo estava normal como antes de ter a hérnia inguinal.
Em conclusão, recomendo vivamente os serviços da Biorhernia e do Dr Koch e estou cem por cento feliz por ter recusado a operação pelo método de Lichtenstein no meu país apesar desta cirurgia ser gratuita no sistema nacional de saúde português.
Quanto ao custo da operação, achei justo sendo idêntico ao do método de Lichtenstein quando efectuado em clínica privada em Portugal.

Onderschrijf alle positieve reacties over Nahom en dr. Koch met zijn team. In 2021 is een liesbreuk rechts hersteld. Geen twijfel toen ook links een ingreep noodzakelijk was.
Ter info, Cottbus is een gezellig stadje, prima restaurants en rondom wandel mogelijkheden. Maakt het verblijf aangenamer. Reis vanuit Nederland kan tevens met trein via Berlijn naar Cottbus of zelfs met Flixbus naar Berlijn.

Ik hou het kort en simpel!
Na een prostaat- en lymfeklieren verwijdering ontstond bij mij een pijnlijke en zeer ongemakkelijke liesbreuk rechts. Na een echo bleek een wachttijd van 10 weken of soms nog meer. En: in Nederland wordt bij de operatie een kunststof matje geplaatst.

Onze slimme en doortastende dochter Esther ging op onderzoek en kwam terecht bij BioHernia. Binnen drie weken was ik geopereerd door de zeer gerespecteerde dr. Andreas Koch in Cottbus, een stadje onder Berlijn. Nu, na 6 weken prijs ik mij gelukkig en ben ik mijn dochter, Nahom en dr Koch met zijn team zeer dankbaar. Als ik terugdenk en terugvoel voor de operatie en nu met de wetenschap geen kunststof in mijn lichaam voel ik blijdschap en die dankbaarheid.

Review enkelvoudige liesbreukoperatie Kelkheim Duitsland door dokter Wiese op 13-10-2022

Via bemiddeling van Nahom van Biohernia, die alles goed geregeld had, heeft dokter Wiese bij mij op 13-10-2022 succesvol een enkelvoudige liesbreukoperatie verricht zonder kunststof matje.
De breuk was iets groter dan verwacht, maar hij heeft het toch kunnen fixen. Een reguliere operatie met kunststof matje was voor mij geen optie. Meestal gaat het blijkbaar goed maar er zijn te veel geopereerde gevallen mat matje waarbij mensen later chronische pijnklachten kregen las ik op internet. Dat risico wilde ik niet nemen. Uit ervaring weet ik dat een implantaat soms noodzakelijk kan zijn in je lichaam maar als het mogelijk is zonder een implantaat heeft dat natuurlijk de voorkeur. Als er toch een matje nodig blijkt te zijn gebruikt het team oplosbare matjes, simpel toch!
Het is in mijn ogen heel vreemd dat een liesbreukoperatie in Nederland alleen met kunststof matje gangbaar is terwijl dat dikwijls voor problemen kan zorgen en er hier geen ervaren chirurgen zijn voor operaties zonder matje.

Dus mijn vrouw en ik zijn naar Duitsland gegaan.
Dr. Wiese is hartelijke en humoristisch zonder als chirurg op een voetstuk te gaan staan. Daarbij is hij in zijn vak zeker van zijn zaak en heel vakkundig. Dat geldt ook voor zijn hele team en met name was in mijn ervaring de vrouwelijke narcotiseur heel prettig en vakkundig. Je wordt behandeld als mens en niet als nummer, een verademing!
Dit alles gaf mij echt het vertrouwen dat het goed zou gaan wat wel heel belangrijk voor mij was.
De hele voorlichting en bemiddeling inclusief verblijf in Arcade hotel via Nahom van Biohernia in Amsterdam was pretiig en goed geregeld waardoor vooraf het vertrouwen ook groeide in de operatie.
Ik moest meteen na de operatie elke dag lopen om een snel herstel te bevorderen. De eerste 2 weken was de pijn pittig, na 4 weken veel minder en na 6 weken zo goed als weg en nu kan ik weer alles doen, ook sporten.
Ook na de operatie was dokter Wiese bereikbaar wat betreft de nazorg, wat weer heel belangrijk is als je weer terug bent in je thuisland. Dat geeft rust.

Conclusie: een heel aparte ervaring en een aanrader als je voor een liesbreukoperatie komt te staan. Wel even het kostenplaatje in de gaten houden, de meeste verzekeringmaatschappijen vergoeden 80% in het buitenland, sommige alles.
