My Photo Shoot Experience with Doug
My Photo Shoot Experience with Doug
I made a list of things I wanted to do before I turned 60 next year, and doing a photo shoot was one of them.
The last time I had a photo shoot was over twenty years ago. Obviously, I was younger then, slimmer, and had a good little body! Fast forward to 2026 — I’m older, my features haven’t changed too much, but I’ve put on a little bit of weight! 😜
I was looking through Instagram when I came across some photographs that were different from the usual formal model poses. The models looked relaxed, natural and, most importantly, like they were simply being themselves. That really appealed to me, and that’s when I contacted Doug.
We initially spoke via video call, and the first thing I noticed was how calm and reassuring Doug was. He immediately made me feel at ease. Rather than simply asking what photographs I wanted, he took the time to find out what kind of person I was — my likes, dislikes, personality and what I wanted to get out of the shoot.
I explained that I wanted to do something different and really step outside the box. I sent him photographs of iconic women I admired and aspired to, along with examples of editorial-style modelling that I wanted to try to replicate. Doug listened to everything I had to say and was open to my ideas.
I also asked if I could bring my own music and a friend along for support. Doug admitted that he had never had a client bring someone with them before, but he was absolutely fine with it, as long as my friend didn’t interfere with the shoot — which was completely understandable.
The day of the shoot itself was fantastic. Doug made both me and my friend feel very welcome at the studio. We went through the outfits I had brought, discussed what I wanted to achieve, and then just took things from there.
I have to admit, I was nervous at the beginning. It had been more than twenty years since I had done anything like this, and I wasn’t feeling particularly confident in myself at the time. But as the shoot progressed, something changed. I became more relaxed, more confident and started to really enjoy myself.
It was exactly the boost I needed at a time when I was feeling a little low and wasn’t feeling particularly good about myself.
The time absolutely flew by. In fact, I wish we had had more time together!
Then came the part I was probably both excited and nervous about — viewing the photographs.
I honestly couldn’t believe that was me!
There I was looking confident, happy, sexy and, dare I say it, hot! 😜
I ended up purchasing quite a lot of the photographs because I genuinely loved them, but also because I wanted them as a keepsake — something I could look back on and remember how I felt that day.
Would I describe the photographs as “boudoir”? Maybe, maybe not. But whatever category they fall into, I absolutely love them.
What has surprised me most has been the reaction from my friends and, especially, my work colleagues. They have seen a completely different side of Natalie — and I think they’re still getting over it! 😜
For me, though, this experience was about much more than having some beautiful photographs taken. It was about stepping outside my comfort zone, embracing who I am now rather than who I was twenty years ago, and proving to myself that you’re never too old to try something new.
Doug, thank you for your support, kindness, professionalism and, above all, the respect you showed me throughout the whole experience. You created an environment where I felt comfortable enough to be myself, experiment and have fun.
You didn’t just take photographs of me — you helped me see myself differently.
And for that, I will always be grateful.
Thank you, Doug. ❤️
