Lack of Transparency in pricing policy
I booked a cruise for 3 couples in January 25 through Barrhead travel in Gordon Street Glasgow.
We paid a lump sum for the cruise which we enjoyed ,however one of my group wanted an itemised bill for expenses purposes.
When I emailed the agent who sold us the holiday she emailed advising that she could not itemise the bill,but gave no reason why.
I then contacted the Cruise company,the airline and the hotel in Portugal where we stayed prior to the cruise.
They all provided me with their bills and it was then that I discovered a large discrepancy of £989 of a difference from the cost of the holiday and what we were charged by Barrhead Travel.
I had a meeting in the branch with the agent, who could not explain this differential in price.
She said she would take it to Customer Services and after a week I received an email basically saying we had enjoyed our holiday but no mention of a refund or apology for the overcharge.
I then emailed the Manager of Barrhead travel pointing out that we believed we had been overcharged.
I received two further emails from the person in charge of Package Holidays pointing out that prices can be fluid!!
I pointed out we were not on a package holiday but nowhere in the email was there mention of costs or that a mistake may have been made.
I then sent all the information to ABTA
who took a month to reply stating they don't get involved in pricing policies of companies. They did write advising contacting a lawyer.
I would not recommend Barrhead Travel as a result of this treatment regarding pricing and who knows how many other unsuspecting customers have overpaid because of their lack of transparency,not providing itemised bills.
Needless to say I would never use Barrhead Travel again.
Very disappointed
Online booking is horrendous I'll stick to other holiday sites like Love holidays. They give you choices like close to Airport, kids slides and cheaper for kids at 15 years old
PLEASE USE WITH CAUTION
We booked a Caribbean cruise holiday through Barrhead Travel Falkirk. Certainly not the first holiday we had used them for. This turned out to be a very trying experience. Total disregard for anything that we had asked for, lack of communication, no updates, unable to book seats. To be frank and honest, it certainly seemed that we’ve got your money, your on your own.
Unfortunately, we had previously booked another cruise for next year and had payed a substantial deposit. Despite the bitter taste of from the last debacle, we remained up beat putting down the previous experience as a one off. Sadly it was not. This time they had booked the wrong flight, from the wrong departing airport, the wrong airline. By the time they had advised us the flights we actually requested were fully booked. Again, they didn’t seem to care, not as much as the slightest hint of apology. We decided it was best to cut out losses and cancel the full trip, obviously they retained the deposit.
Just be very cautious when booking through the Falkirk branch. Incidentally a very good friend who had booked a large family holiday suffered a very similar experience. They also cancelled.
Personally, I think they have lost their customer focus instead spending too much attention on turnover. The management needs to knuckle down
Book direct yourself
I am very disappointed with my experience with Barrhead Travel. I was told I was getting a great discount by booking through them, but that turned out to be untrue. If I had booked directly, I would have saved £500, received £100 using quidco and received a better luggage allowance.
I was also told that all rooms have a sea view, which is simply not the case – so the information I was given was misleading. On top of that, the staff member who dealt with my booking gave me incorrect advice about travel visas and clearly had very little knowledge.
Overall, I feel I was misled on multiple points, which has left me out of pocket and frustrated. I would not recommend Barrhead Travel based on this experience.

Brian spent nearly an hour going through my holiday and itinerary prior to booking. The information he provided was excellent, and the holiday which had many parts to it went really smoothly and to plan. Toronto, Rocky mountaineer and Alaska cruise were amazing. Thank you. I wouldn't hesitate in booking with them again.
No Customer Service at the Forte…
No Customer Service at the Forte Kinnard Branch. We turned up for a pre arranged appointment, having travelled 20 miles.
We waited 35 minutes and then gave up. No welcome, no explanation, no nothing.
Awful Awful
Awful! Barrhead Newport Isle of Wight dreadful customer service. Lost a holiday of a lifetime worth thousands because we weren’t informed of visa requirements

My husband and I have just booked our holiday to Mauritius at the Halifax store. The travel agent who dealt with us was Vicky and as always was very professional and helpful.
This is the 5th holiday we have booked with the store and we have dealt with all the staff and they are all a credit to your company.
We have also recommended our friends and family to book with your company.

Stay away from this travel agency
Stay away from this travel agency, my wife took ill and we had to cancel our dream holiday that we had saved for.
The full cost was over £4,000 we were charged £2,800 for the privilege my wife could not travel due to the fact an opperation is needed or long term issues could occur.
No empathy at all the only word the girl heard was cancel no offer of any other things we could do. Never even looked us in the eye. Avoid at all costs, Barrhead travel the Forte Glasgow.

Julie and Joy from Burnley branch were fantastic, they were so helpful, everything was sorted with no stress and they had amazing recommendations. We didn’t feel rushed. I use this travel agent a lot as Joy is fantastic, she’s booked so many holidays for us and is so helpful, everything is sorted with no stress and she has amazing recommendations! I have never been on a cruise Julie took us through the choices and we have booked a cruise to the Carribbean, she also sorted out parking and holiday insurance. Top service thank you 😁

If there was an option for no stars or minus stars then that's the one I would have chosen.
Our transfer refused to take us from the airport and back again. We phoned Barrhead who were helpful on the phone and asked us to get a taxi and the would re-imburse us on our return if we provided the receipts. We did that and they are now not returning our money even though they assured us they would and none of this was anything to do with us. They are insisting on putting a claim in to their supplier which is nothing to do with us. I will NEVER book with Barrhead Travel again, the customer service is appalling and the emergency number went to voicemail. It's so bad, I have lodged a complaint with ABTA
