Be wary

Starting to doubt the this site and the pushing of products
Have followed a lot of the advice given but the latest one stating a product has been scientifically proven to reduce cholesterol using unimate by Unicity. It’s £148 for a month! Extortionate!
And my research found this review of unimate

‘However, a systematic review and meta-analysis of seven experimental studies involving 378 people found no statistically significant overall reduction in LDL, total cholesterol, HDL or triglycerides. A more recent randomized trial also found mixed results in people who already had high cholesterol.’

Hi Patrick, thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. We completely understand why you would want to check the research behind anything discussed in relation to health.

There does appear to be an important misunderstanding here, however.

Firstly, this Trustpilot page relates to Ayus Wellness and our own products, whereas your review refers to content from The Longevity Researcher and to Unicity, which is a separate company. Ayus Wellness is a small family-run business that relies on feedback, we take negative reviews to heart and will always do our very best to resolve any customer issues.

Regarding your review, we have never claimed that Unimate itself has been scientifically proven to lower LDL cholesterol.

Unimate is predominantly a concentrated yerba mate drink and is used within the wider Feel Great approach primarily around appetite, energy and making a time restricted eating routine easier to follow.

The study you have quoted is a genuine 2022 systematic review looking specifically at yerba mate. It found that, when seven small experimental studies were pooled, yerba mate did not produce a statistically significant overall reduction in LDL cholesterol. We have no issue at all acknowledging that research.

The cholesterol discussion relates primarily to the other part of the programme, Balance, which contains soluble fibres and phytosterols, rather than Unimate.

There is published human research in this area. For example, researchers at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation conducted a randomised, placebo controlled trial involving 119 participants using a soluble fibre and vitamin formulation from the same Bios Life product lineage. After eight weeks, LDL cholesterol had fallen by 7.9% in the treatment group, while increasing by 2.4% in the placebo group. The difference between the groups was statistically significant.

There has also been research looking at wider lifestyle programmes incorporating fibre supplementation, dietary changes and coaching, where reductions in LDL and other metabolic markers have been observed.

This is an important distinction because the protocol has never been about taking one drink and expecting it to cure high cholesterol. It focuses on diet, fibre intake, meal timing, exercise, weight management and other lifestyle factors. Products such as Balance are presented as optional tools that can make parts of that approach easier to follow.

We also completely respect that £148 per month will not represent good value for everybody. Nobody needs to purchase Unicity products to follow the principles within the protocol, and we would never suggest otherwise. Nonetheless, ~£4 per day is less than most people will spend on their daily coffee!

We are always happy for people to challenge the research we discuss. In this instance, however, the study quoted relates to yerba mate and does not contradict the research being referred to around soluble fibre, phytosterols and the wider metabolic protocol.
