Watch out for this company
Watch out for this company. Insurance scam. Credit Cards in Netherlands only have initials on them. This is not adequate for Autovia in Italy. Your full name must be on credit card. Meaning your name MUST be written out in full. Ended up paying 150 euros extra for insurance. Never ever had this problem with hiring a car before in any other country in the world. Advice. Check your credit card before you book. Go elsewhere where the standard issue credit card is accepted!!!!!!

we’re truly sorry for the inconvenience and fully understand your frustration. However, please allow us to clarify that, for security and insurance compliance reasons in Italy, the full name of the cardholder must appear on the credit card, matching exactly the name stated on the rental contract.
This requirement ensures proper identity verification and protects both the customer and the rental company in the event of unauthorized use or insurance claims.
We do recognize that in some countries, such as the Netherlands, cards may display only initials, and we understand how inconvenient this can be when unexpected.
We are currently working to improve the pre-booking communication of this requirement on all partner websites, so that international customers are fully informed before arrival.

Macchina Prenotata Toyota ChR auto consegnata Volkswagen TRoc. Pochissima trasparenza nelle coperture assicurative con richieste folli con valori superiori al valore del noleggio. Auto consegnata senza il pieno. Tempi di check in eccessivi.

Desideriamo precisare che, in caso di temporanea indisponibilità del modello prenotato, viene sempre fornito un veicolo di categoria equivalente o superiore, come previsto dalle condizioni di noleggio.
Riguardo alle coperture assicurative, desideriamo precisare che Autovia propone diverse soluzioni facoltative per ridurre o azzerare le responsabilità economiche del cliente; ci rammarichiamo se le informazioni fornite in sede di ritiro non sono risultate sufficientemente chiare.
Per quanto concerne il livello di carburante, può accadere che, in caso di rientro di un veicolo senza pieno e con tempi operativi ristretti, l’auto venga consegnata con un livello inferiore al massimo. In questi casi, al cliente viene semplicemente richiesto di restituire il veicolo con lo stesso livello di carburante presente al momento della consegna, come previsto dalle nostre procedure.
La ringraziamo per la segnalazione, che sarà utile per migliorare ulteriormente la trasparenza e l’efficienza del servizio offerto.

Very good service
Lady at registration desk was very helpful and understanding. Only inconvenience was the process of switching the car after a flat tire (had to call myself several numbers to find out what the process is) and receiving the refund for the taxi to the rental office to switch the car (had to insist a bit with emails until i got a reply). But everything worked out in the end.

Booked a car through booking.com with…
Booked a car through booking.com with revolut card. (they took my money) When to collect and they said they don't accept revolut cards on collection. So they're ok with taking the money and not providing the service. Said it was in the terms and conditions. I got no refund. So I was stranded and had to hire a car with another company at twice the price. No help from booking.com either.

we’re truly sorry for what happened and for the stress of being left without a car—especially after a prepaid booking on the portal.
For clarity: to open the rental agreement we require a physical, nominative credit card (Visa/Mastercard/Amex) in the renter’s name, suitable for the security deposit (pre-authorization). Prepaid/debit or virtual cards—such as Revolut in that configuration—cannot be accepted at the counter as a guarantee, as stated in our rental requirements and in partner vouchers/pre-arrival information.
If the guarantee does not meet the requirements, the agreement cannot be finalized and the car cannot be released; for prepaid bookings made via third-party portals (e.g., booking.com), any refund eligibility follows the portal’s policy, and for direct bookings on our website there is no refund in case of no-show due to missing/invalid documents or guarantees.
We want to prevent this from happening again: our confirmations highlight the exact card type needed at pick-up. We’re ready to review your case details (booking code/date/location) and liaise with the partner to assess any possible outcome.
Again, we apologize for the inconvenience you experienced.

BUONA ESPERIENZA
Tutto Ok come prenotazione, accoglienza e chiarezza della impiegata al banco.
Rapidità nella restituzione delle cauzioni e verifica degli eventuali danni (peraltro non presenti).
Unico appunto avevamo prenotato una Yaris e, nonostante fosse disponibile nel parcheggio, ci è stata assegnata una MG3 anche avendo fatto presente la cosa.

This company sucks don’t ever use them.
We’ve already rented three cars on our honeymoon in Italy and went to the desk at Catania airport and were refused because we didn’t have international drivers licences. Literally every other car rental place we’ve used says the same thing in the terms that you need one, but it’s NEVER enforced or required. They went ahead and charged us got three days and only refunded the last 4 days and offered zero help. We’re stranded at the airport trying to book another car after booking this one months in advance, and hoping to find a car available elsewhere. I can get an international drivers licence online in about 5min but they won’t accept THAT either. This company sucks and I will recommend to everyone thinking of using them, NOT to. Rude and dismissive to us at the counter, knowing that we’re now stranded here. What a brutal experience.

We would like to clarify that the requirement to present a valid International Driving Permit (IDP) for non-EU license holders is not an internal rule of our company, but a legal obligation under Italian law. As a rental company, we are required to comply strictly with these regulations, and unfortunately, we cannot make exceptions.
We regret if this was not clear at the time of booking and understand how frustrating it must have been to face this situation during your honeymoon. Regarding the charges, please note that when a rental cannot proceed due to missing mandatory documents, only the unused portion of the booking is refundable, as stated in the rental conditions.

PESSIMA ESPERIENZA
Non prenotate assolutamente con questa compagnia !!!!e’ una truffa totale! Abbiamo prenotato una macchina e pagato in anticipo, non appena siamo arrivati in aeroporto con un ora di ritardo in quanto il volo era in ritardo ci hanno detto che la macchina non era più disponibile e che non ne avevano altre.
Abbiamo dovuto prenotare un altra macchina con un Altra compagnia e ripagare nuovamente tutto.
Quando abbiamo chiamato il servizio clienti ci hanno dett che ci avrebbero rimborsato 7€.
Sono dei banditi e si devono solo vergognare! Seguiranno azioni legali. Sconsigliatissimo.

We would like to clarify that, as stated in our terms and conditions, Autovia guarantees vehicle collection within 1 hour of the scheduled pick-up time, or within 2 hours of the scheduled flight arrival time if this has been provided at the time of booking. Beyond these limits, the booking may expire, and the vehicle can be assigned to another customer. Whenever possible, we always strive to deliver the booked car or offer an alternative vehicle, but availability cannot always be guaranteed.
We regret that in this case it was not possible to provide you with a satisfactory solution. We kindly invite you to contact our customer care team through our official channels so we can review your case in detail and offer further assistance.

Pick up was great, the rest not so much.
Pick up was perfect. No haggling over insurance, lady was super helpful. However, did not direct us to the car and didn't tell us where it was so spent 20 minutes clicking the unlock button trying to find the car in the car park. Car was quite damaged and didn't look to be cleaned. Car was fine to drive throughtout. Lady also told us to leave it empty and emphasised this multiple times which was odd. Brought it back and had the man check over the car multiple times even though I said I had the insurance. He said there was extra charges which I assumed was the fuel. He explained that it is charged at 1.80 EUR a litre which is 30 cents more than what the lady said and what the contract says. Also much higher than what is at the service stations as I have a receipt for 1.61 when we filled up. As I contested the fee the man said I spoke very bad english, he then went back outside to inspect the car and told me there was a fee for 1. Bringing it back late, we stood in a queue for an hour as the computers went down so said we would bring it back later which they said okay to, no dramas there. Then said the rims were scratched up and he was taking photos, which I said I had the insurance again... then he said he will take off all the charges if I just comply with the fuel price and that he was tired and cranky from it being the end of the day so please stop being rude.. Very odd behaviour and wasn't expecting to be insulted for my accent. Had two completely different ends of the spectrum of customer service.

We rented a car with Autovia at Catania…
We rented a car with Autovia at Catania Airport and had a very good experience. Although the counter is located just outside the terminal, it’s only a very short walk and easy to find. Both the pick-up and drop-off processes were smooth and efficient. At drop-off, we were assisted by Giorgio, who was very professional and helpful. Overall, the service was excellent, and I would definitely consider renting from Autovia again in the future.

The car was not what I expected
The car was not what I expected. No power, too small for luggage, but it was new and with good extras. I will use Ecovia/ Autovia again when I'm in Italy but I'll chose a car with more power :)
