Bought as a birthday gift – disappointed by the quality and return process
I purchased two bags from Aussie Finest Melbourne as a birthday gift for my daughter because I believed I was supporting an Australian business offering unique, premium-quality products.
Unfortunately, the items I received after 22 days delivery time were very different from the impression created by the website. The bags looked mass-produced, the materials and finish felt much lower quality than expected, and the overall presentation was disappointing considering the price paid.
What was particularly disappointing was learning after the purchase that the products were not shipped from Australia. During my discussions with customer support, I was informed that the company fulfils orders through international distribution centres and global manufacturing partners. Had this been made clearer upfront, it may have influenced my purchasing decision.
After receiving the bags, I searched online and found very similar products available on marketplaces such as Temu for a fraction of the price. This left me feeling that I had significantly overpaid for what I received.
The company advertises a "30-day money back guarantee" and "hassle-free returns". However, when I requested a refund, I was informed that a full refund would require returning the items internationally. The return process involved arranging DDP (Delivered Duty Paid) shipping, prepaying duties and taxes, using an international courier such as FedEx, and providing multiple forms of documentation. As an Australian customer, I do not consider this process "hassle-free".
To be fair, customer support did respond to my emails and eventually increased their compensation offer. After several exchanges, I accepted a 50% partial refund and kept the bags, as the cost and complexity of returning them internationally did not seem worthwhile.
My advice to potential buyers is to research carefully before purchasing. If you are buying because you believe you are receiving an Australian-made or Australian-shipped premium product, you may wish to ask additional questions before placing an order. My experience did not match the expectations created by the website, and I would not purchase from this company again.
