BEWARE FACTORY SECONDS & FAULTY GOODS
Extremely disappointing experience. Misleading sales practices and appalling after-sales service.
I purchased an oven from Appliances Warehouse believing I was buying a brand-new appliance. I subsequently discovered that the business sells factory seconds and manufacturer returns, something I do not believe was made sufficiently clear to me at the time of purchase.
The oven was delivered with serious operational faults, including overheating and potential electrical/fire safety concerns. Given the nature of the problems, I am concerned that the appliance may have had an existing fault when supplied.
An electrician ultimately disconnected the oven due to safety concerns, leaving my family without a functioning oven for several weeks.
What followed was an extraordinary amount of correspondence, delays and excuses. Despite the appliance being faulty, I had to purchase a replacement at my own expense while repeatedly chasing Appliances Warehouse for a refund.
Even after agreeing to provide a full refund, the business initially insisted I wait several additional business days after collection. Only after further correspondence did they agree to process the refund on the day of collection.
At the time of writing, the faulty oven is sitting outside my property awaiting collection and I still have not received my refund.
I have now commenced escalating the matter and am considering formal complaints to NSW Fair Trading and the relevant product safety authorities.
My experience raises serious concerns about transparency, product quality, customer service and the handling of consumer rights under Australian Consumer Law.
I would strongly recommend that prospective customers establish exactly whether they are purchasing a genuinely new appliance, a factory second or a manufacturer return before handing over their money.
An extremely disappointing experience from beginning to end.
