Air Vanuatu, the regional international airline, offers flights from Port Vila to Australia, New Zealand, New Caledonia and Fiji. Van Air is the domestic carrier within Vanuatu with a 29 destination network.
Four cancelled flights on one holiday? Never had such a huge hassle with an airline. Ended up forking out £2500 on flights to make sure we got back to our international flight from Sydney - used Virgin which is far more reliable. Our holiday was made shorter, more stressful and far more expensive thanks to this dreadful airline.
6 flight changes.
We booked through Flight Centre who tried to sort out but our flights changed by dates - and locations. We ended up arriving at midnight on our first day of holidays. The whole process has been a fiasco with the airline advising us to claim through insurance for any inconvenience - which included us staying in Brisbane on the way to Vanuatu and on the way back. We live in Melbourne. We missed our interconnecting flight on the way home as the airline was “late”.
Our flight to Santo was cancelled at just 4 hours notice, this wrecked our pre-booked holiday plans to go to the islands of Santo and Tanna. A whole grim day was wasted in Port Villa trying to find out if we a would be reimbursed. We have not been. Nor was a night in a hotel provided as was promised. In addition, due to Air Vanuatu's flight cancellation, (not ours), the hotel and Dive company, Pacific Dive, Santo then refused to refund our full payment of £1,100 despite not informing us about such a cancellation policy, as did the hotel, The Espiritu (£500) also sighting a previously undisclosed cancelation policy. We then had to cancel other flights we had booked with Air Vanuatu to the island of Tanna because we were advised that Air Vanuatu very likely would not be able to get us back to Efate in order to catch our international return flights back to NZ and then the UK, a loss we could not risk. Air Vanuatu did not reimburse these either. It's a great shame as Vanuatu is a wonderful place. Air Vanuatu is incompetent and dishonest, a national disgrace.
