Totally awful company do not know what they are doing.
AES-smartmetering.com, a company used by SO Energy,made an appointment for an engineer to install a meter. The appointment was for to-day, Wednesday, 04th March 2026 between 13.00 and 17.00.
The name of the engineer was Zane.
I cancelled all my appointments to wait for the idiot and liar. When he did not turn up at about 13.30, I rang the number, which they sent on a message 020 8363 8848. The person on the phone said that Zane had turned up and could not get entry. I then asked the person to give me a number to complain - 0330 111 50 50. Somebody at SO Energy,called Jed answered - He said that Zane called and could not get entry. I rang my door bell and asked Jed to listen to the bell tone. I did this twice so that he could be under no doubt that the bell works.
He said that idiot Zane has taken a picture of my door and asked me if I wanted annother appointment. I said yes and suggested September 2026. He refused to make an appointment for September 2026. I have since read an email to me, timed at 13.18

It looks like something technical got in the way today which prevented a successful smart meter installation."
According to these call center temps, only their suggestions count. I am putting this in writing as proof of their incompetence.
Had the smart meeter appointment today with Richie. Very professional and had the work done in adequate time. Would strongly recommend them for any future work.
The engineer gave my tenant a 'DO NOT USE' report as he noticed a flexible flu in the loft. The next day, a plumber arrived and saw that the flexible flu was the outlet for the cooker extractor, not the boiler.
Very difficult to contact this person, no details on the Gas Safety Report. All I have is his post code, name of company and number 566118. No email address or phone. How can I tell him about his mistake? I can't.

Brakes failed on unserviced van a i nearly killed myself as the van failed to stop and crashed at 60mph!! Second van i was given also not roadworthy, they refused to give me different vans!
Training is a waste of a week as all you do is take photos of existing work for your portfolio.
The absolute worst, most disgusting people i have ever met.
Unable to fit gas meter because didn't have the parts. Fitted electric meter that is unable to communicate with their systems and so is a less useful stupid meter than the one it replaced. We are in an urban area, with good signal, so no idea what that is about. The engineer went away saying he would be in touch, and I have heard nothing since.
Nathan the engineer, communicated at all stages via WhatsApp and a phone call to confirm that he would attend to install my smart meters. He drove all the way from West London. A 2 hr drive. The reason being is that the previous 3 engineers happened to be ill on the day they were due to attend., which made me furious as I took time out from work. Nathan attended on a Saturday, was efficient, professional, polite and tidy. Having been let down 3 times, I finally got an engineer who was the best. Thanks Nathan.
Had a smart meter installed 24 March 2025, left without heating or hot water. Called another engineer sent who advised original engineer had not installed meter correctly. He reassured me that he had corrected issue. Hey ho to my great surprise still without hot water or heating. Absolutely shambolic company with engineers who do not have a clue.
This company is a fake joke with non industry standard safety , including sending engineers on courses through non recognised companies for upskill. It took 2.5 hours for me personally to go to the "medium pressed upskill course" of which I had no training, just classroom rubbish which the trainer was quite evidently rushing as he was going on holiday
1/2 hour later I'm qualified
2 months later after being so called self employed by this diabolical, unsafe and quite frankly dangerous company I left. They then preceeded to withhold my salary. Even after much contact, email, calls to ombudsmans they still haven't paid me. And even after contacting the company as as a last desperate way was told Craig moore, a Director was going to call me. Which never happened. Do not work for this company as u will risk ur qualifications and livelyhood
An aes engineer visited my neighbour today to presumably fit a smart gas meter. I only noticed because he put his rubbish in my recycling bin (which has a different house number on it). I would have let it go but the cardboard smart gas meter box he left also contained soft plastic and a pair of fabric gloves - not allowed in that recycling bin. So, not wishing to have a problem with the rest of my recycling, I had to go to the trouble of sorting it out because the aes engineer couldn’t be bothered to put himself out or consider others. All captured on CCTV.
They made an appointment with me for a meter check. Waited in all day and they didn't turn up.
I phoned office and was told the engineer decided it didn't need a check.
Waited in all day and no one let me know.
Absolutely disgraceful service.
tried calling to arrange a smart meter after countless emails from them and they're online booking service not working. The agent couldn't hear me nor I hear him from the level of noise with people laughing and joking in the background - must have been a party going on. Definitely will not be trying to arrange this again with this crowd - very unprofessional

I had an appointment scheduled to replace my electricity meter. Having dealt with terrible companies in the past (they kept cancelling) - I was surprised to see the engineer Leon attend on time and with great customer service.
He answered all questions I had and explained everything he was doing to me. Great insight and knowledge.

My appointment to replace a faulty smart meter and communications hub has been cancelled twice, and for the third appointment, the engineer never showed up. After being on hold at position 1 for 40 minutes, I finally got through to someone, only to be placed on hold again while they tried to reach the engineer, then I was disconnected. I called back, and I'm still on hold. While waiting, I received a cancellation email at 16:01, informing me that today's appointment (scheduled between 08:00 and 12:00) had been cancelled. It's frustrating dealing with such an unprofessional service that seems to take government money but fails to deliver results.
My energy supplier appointed me this company to fit a new electric meter as mine is faulty. Managed to get an appointment on my week off from work, so I was very lucky. Was up from the crack of dawn because my appointment was scheduled between 8am to 12pm. Got round to 11am and had a phone call from the company to ask if I was at home, which I stated I was and had been for the last 3 days. Apparently the guy turned up and phoned me to let me know he was there. I received NO call. I had been looking out the window from my flat on and off all morning as my bedroom sits on the main road and thats where I was. I saw nobody. I also had my windows open to listen out too.
They then said they will phone him to see if he would go back. I had a phone call 20 minutes later to say he wasn't coming back as he had moved on to another job and I need to rebook. At this point I was so angry because I have to wait until October to rearrange an appointment for when I'm next off. I never normally get angry on the phone with customer service staff but I had had it at that point. Not to mention being up early when I am on annual leave and I am exhausted from my job as it is.
Utterly disgusting that the engineer would lie to say they had knocked on the door and phoned me to say they were there. I have made a formal complaint with the company and So Energy.
The guy on the phone was very apologetic and that I am giving a completely different story to what the engineer gave him. Seems like these reviews all have the same experience.
I reckon the guy was just lazy and wanted to be paid for work he wasn't doing.
Operative installing the meter was top banana, very knowledgeable, on-time, very polite and helpful.

Had a day off work to get my meter installed, waited 4 months for this! Had a call to say the guy had left as couldn't gain access to the property. Told the lady on the phone no one had knocked my door. She said she had a photo of the house I confirmed it was mine and she told me his tracker states he was here for 15 mins. I told her I have cctv showing he walks past the house with his phone in his hand and not once does he even walk up my path let alone knock the door. She put me on hold to see if he could come back. When back she said no he is on his way to the next one out of the area and would need to re book. Also re told me he did knock and I didn't answer. Ignored me when I said I have footage of what he did and that he had not even put a foot on my property.
Very poor customer service.
James the meter operative telephoned beforehand to confirm the time. Efficient, knowledgeable, affable - did a great job in changing my standard electricty meter to a 3 phase smart meter (needed to get an EV tariiff). Explained every step of the process and took me through the use of the monitor display unit. Everything left functioning, clean and tidy. Excellent job!
