Well done on passing first time with your instructor Simon Sheldon in Derby
Good experience
I completed an intensive course, I felt it was the best way. I liked the fact we had the time to go over anything I needed more support in, the instructor was clear and supportive. I felt comfortable, and because of that gained confidence quickly.

Highly recommend my instructor Brian
Passed with 7 minors second time around with Brian Torbitt as my instructor. I worked with him from January this year to today and he was wonderful to work with, very clear in his instruction but always willing to have a laugh when mistakes are made on my end and make me feel at ease. Highly recommend working with him, he’s alway good at communicating times and lessons and any changes that arise.

Amazing customer service from Acclaim…
Amazing customer service from Acclaim driving. I moved from a previous driving school to acclaim and felt my confidence boost significantly. Passed with only 3 minors which I could not have done without my instructor Hamish Catanach. They are so friendly and patient. 100% recommend this to new learners.

Great service from Acclaim, but I would be careful booking lessons if you struggle with anxiety
I had lessons with Acclaim from August 2024 until September 2026. I started off with Liz, who I had lessons with until July 2025 (during which I took and failed 2 tests). She has since left the company but her teaching style was great, although she had a tendency to cancel lessons last minute due to health issues. She left the company around June 2026, and Acclaim offered for me to start lessons with a new instructor in July, which I accepted. Acclaim's office are amazing with admin. They were always quick to respond and willing to help in any way they could regarding lesson scheduling or payments, and they made the booking process very easy. I had 6 lessons with my new instructor on the run up to my last test, which I passed. He was nice and always on time, and he managed to get me back into driving after a year to allow me to pass. However, as someone who struggles with anxiety, I do not feel as though he catered to my needs particularly well. He knew I was quite nervous on the run up to my test, and whenever I made silly mistakes due to these nerves, his response was to complain at me. He would say things like 'What are you doing silly girl?' in an annoyed tone and then proceed to complain in a patronising tone. I also found that he mumbled his directions a lot, which put me on edge more as he would complain if I missed a turn due to not hearing him. I know that it's normal to be annoyed by stupid mistakes, but comments like this made me feel much more nervous about driving than I had ever felt with my previous instructor. Asides from this, he was nice and he did his job fairly well, but I would not recommend him as an instructor to those who struggle with anxiety, particularly if you have not had another instructor beforehand. Other than the minor issues I experienced in the latter portion of driving lessons with Acclaim, I feel as though the service provided was of a high standard.

Hi Phil,
Thank you for taking the time to leave such a detailed and honest review. We're genuinely pleased to hear that you had a positive experience with Liz and that our admin team could support your journey; that's exactly the level of service we aim for.
Your feedback about your recent lessons is really valuable to us, and we take your concerns seriously. Anxiety-focused driving instruction is a specialist skill, and every learner deserves an instructor who can adapt their coaching style to support their confidence and wellbeing — not undermine it. The way you were spoken to doesn't meet our standards, and I'm sorry that experience fell short. We'll be looking at how we prepare instructors to work with nervous learners and ensure empathetic, encouraging feedback is part of their toolkit.
Congratulations on passing. That's a real achievement, especially after a setback and a year away from driving. Well done.
Again, thank you for your honesty. Feedback like this helps us get better.
All the best.
