Insurance cancellation experience
I had requested for the cancellation of my car insurance on January 2026 and they seem to have processed the request however I made several follow up as I was still unable to receive the refund. I was able to talk to Ivan from Abbeygate and he sorted out the issue quickly. Apparently, it was Allianz, who was not able to process the request on time. Overall, It was still a good experience from Abbeygate. I give them 4 stars as I can see that there is still room for improvement especially when it comes to communicating with the client.

As expats in Portugal from South Africa we recently had to take out car insurance for our new car. After contacting several brokers and working through a mountain of paperwork (naturally in Portuguese) we found Abbeygate to offer the most protection for the best monthly rate, and an even better rate if paid annually. All the emails and some phone calls were done in English and we're very happy with the service of Francisco Borba. I will now investigate taking Health Insurance with Abbeygate as well. P&J

Efficient and helpful
Roberto Viegas at Abbeygate in Portugal was very helpful and efficient. He quickly found us the right travel insurance policy for a sports-based holiday at a very competitive price.

I have my car insurance arranged by Sandra Rodrigues at Abbeygate for a couple of years. She is always in time with the communication, professional, and - I believe - finds the best and most competitive policies. Her English is great and for me it is additional value to be able to communicate in English.

Poor service
Very disappointed with attitude of Abbeygate in respect of cancellation of a car insurance policy.
Been a customer of Abbeygate for both House and Car insurance for over 15 years but won't be using them again and will not be recommending them to other potential customers
