I paid $55 in 2025 to get membership for 5 years. I got renewal /expiry notice recently. On inquiry AARP told that the membership is for only 1 year! In spite of repeated requests and follow ups the... Vis mer

Scammers
Once you join, all they do is bombard you with junk mail to buy insurance from them. Waste of money.
AARP SCAM ALERT
Not trustworthy. AARP engaged in a campaign solicting for The Hartford auto insurance. I received mail offering savings signed by Susan L. Castaneda. This is a scam. The Hartford agent asked: "Did you have an accident regardless of fault in the last 5 years?" I replied yes, but I was exonerated as the defendant accepted 100% fault for the accident. She replied, "Accidents will affect your premium regardless of fault." This reply from Hartford, endorsed by AARP is ILLEGAL and violates insurance laws in my state. Be forewarned. AARP is a scam. They are disregarding state laws, do not engage with them.
My current Full Coverage insurance is $1800 yearly.
Hartford's quote: $4,600 per year. When I tried calling AARP to report they disconnected twice.
This company is USELESS
This company is USELESS. It is no use to give you discounts for gym membership, and worst they are selling your information to car insurances without your permission.
AARP THE TROJAN HORSE
Why would anyone have anything to do with a company that is ran by people who wishes the United States of America to be destroyed and most of the people dies.
The ignorance of the youth will go blindly into the chambers of death. AND these people will be there to greet them in hell. 🇺🇸
Just read a lot of the reviews and what a bunch of hooey.
Just read a lot of the reviews, and what a bunch of old farts (like me, in my mid-80s). Some people just like to complain about anything at all. For instance, reference to Hartford doubling the insurance rate -- not true. I've had it for a number of years, and it is just not the case. Also, another claims AARP is a leftist organization. Well, that's too bad he/she feels that way, but that type of comment does not belong here and should be removed. There's lots of good health information -- you can take it or leave it, but it's there. AARP sells a lot of stuff too. Don't want it, don't buy it. Others have quit. Bye.
Discounts promised, not honored — AARP & Hartford failed me
“Discounts promised, not honored — seniors deserve better.”
“Coupon denied, no help from support, pushed to Hartford instead.”
“Membership benefits misleading — not worth the hassle.”
“AARP partners profit while seniors get shortchanged.”
“Supposed ‘discounts’ ended up costing me more.”
AARP makes it difficult…
No way to cancel your membership from the app or website….they don’t even have it as one of the questions in the FAQ. You have to get in touch with someone there in order to cancel and then they want to ask you 5 or 10 times why you’re canceling instead of just doing it right away. One of those companies unfortunately.
AARP Hartford cheap for one year only
The only reason to be an AARP member was for cheap Hartford car insurance. They more than double the price after a year. Any travel discounts can be acquired through so many other services like Google flights, your credit card company or trivago. Don't waste your money they lean left in their politics also no Christian or conservative should align themselves with any support.
DO NOT TRUST AARP CAR INSURANCE!
If you are over 50 DONOT‼️I say Donot trust AARP insurance or‼️get car insurance from AARP, it’s a huge scam, they steal your money‼️getting them for the first time less than a year, they are the worst‼️every rep is unprofessional, they donot know what they doing and I started to think it’s not even an actual insurance! The app is the worst to manage anything! & no one can help on the phone! but give you the run around , absolutely the worst! I regret this POS decision I made to add my car, I’m cancelling them asap.
Go to Geico who I been with for years with my other vehicles.
Not worth it
Not worth it. Lots of wasted USPS mail and emails. Was a member for over 20 years. The AARP Bulletin (comes in the mail every month) was vaguely helpful, once in a while. When originally joined, the AARP claim to save you money actually worked. These days it's worthless. Now putting in the trash more junk mail from AARP.
Out right lying AARP reps
I called to ask for a physical membership card. I was told by the rep it would be 2-3 week by regular postal mail. I said ok.
Five weeks later still nothing. I call again and the rep tells me they have no record of the request. The rep again tells me it will be a 4 week delay through regular postal mail.
I completed the survey they sent after the and mentioned this issue and selected the option for AARP to contact me. Instead, it redirects me to the chat/phone page on their website. Ok, so i call again.
With the third rep, i explain the two previous discussions. This rep does take the time to explain that i have a Digital Membership and therefore despite the previous rep telling me a physical card would be sent it would be replaced with a email and PDF. So i asked if it was normal for reps to lie to customers. I asked to speak to a supervisor and she said she is one. I thanked her for being helpful on the reason but i told her i wanted follow-up on the practice of lying to customer. I told her my feeling was AARP would ignore the issue and do nothing.
As expected the following day i received an email. It stated we are happy to hear the rep exlplained the membership type. That is it, no mention of the two reps lying to me.
As expected, do not trust them on anything of consequence.
I talked to an expert
I talked to an expert, obviously he wasn't, all the information he gave last month, this month was wrong, i talked to somebody today and i found out they can do nothing, AARP is the worse
The website is by and for bots
The website is what every elder dreads. Expect to spend an hour trying and failing to find out when your membership expires or requesting that they stop sending wasteful renewal notices. Be prepared - after signing in - to give your information again to a third party if you want to use the useless chat bot. If you are feeling marginalized and frustrated by technology designed to throw sand in your face then this is the place to go. On the plus side, you can call them during business hours rather than wasting your time with the website, and their newsletters and magazines contain a ton of valuable information.

I will not support or donate to any organization that supports the DNC or is closely associated with same. I consider the AARP to be a Commie loving branch of the DNC. You may take me off your contact list.
AARP will not stop sending my deceased…
AARP will not stop sending my deceased wife ads for their life insurance. No class. I would not give them air if they were in a jar. I called and told them she passed in October 2024; it's now Aug. 2025.
NEW Member Online and Phone Experience - Awful
I am a new member. I simply attempted to log into my account and review member benefits. Over a period of 2 days, multiple attempts, reset passwords, password free security code attempts, the system keeps emailing me to tell me my password has been successfully changed, only to refuse to let me login. I attempted to call the number that popped up to try to resolve the issue by phone and AI representatives wouldn't let me break through the "medical alert promo" to get to a person. THIS IS ONE OF THE WORST ONLINE experiences I have ever had. Sadly, I'm already ready to PAY to have my bank block AARP so they cannot debit my account next year, heck, even get a new bank card...anything to never pay for this level of poor service. I work as an Instructional Design professional, am no slouch when it comes to navigating the internet, apps and online platforms and still, it's been one system glitch after another. I literally sat silently as the AI representative asked me questions about medical alert that I never responded to, yet it kept yapping as though I did respond. I cannot imagine how someone who isn't computer savvy and has to rely on AARP's phone system and customer service could ever get anywhere. I am terribly disappointed.
Unable to redeem points in their…
Unable to redeem points in their rewards program for 3 months. Have chatted, emailed & called many times. Nothing is ever done. They just don't care about their subscribers. Have been a member for 14 years, will not renew. They should be ashamed regarding how their customers are treated. I think they feel they can provide poor service because we are seniors.
AARP does not stand behind their products they endorse
AARP does not stand behind their customers on Medicare. They promote and endorse United Health Care but when a situation arises they are no where to be found. I need a medication as a cancer patient I do not also need diabetes and I am pre diabetic and United Health Care will not approve a medication that despite my medical history and recent medical tests I obviously need. After running my wonderful doctor ragged writing appeal after appeal--add this--include this--each time getting denied we finally get an answer-after 6 months of paper work and appeals -NO we do not --even though it is on our formulary approve any medication for pre diabetes.--Cool--so not I get to get diabetes over time in addition to 4 other life threatening /dx's and when/until I get diabetes they will not approve it--United Health Care simply does not care--and all AARP will do is refer you to UHC--catch 22 --chasing a tail--waste of time ---time a sick person does not have --AARPand their endorsed health plan from United Health Care are -no service-companies---why am I paying dues??
I booked a car through the Avis–Expedia…
I booked a car through the Avis–Expedia platform promoted by AARP and was later fined £120 due to a congestion zone violation I wasn’t warned about at rental.
Despite repeated contact, AARP refused to help—denying any responsibility and offering no meaningful support, even though they profit from promoting these services. Their representative admitted they had no role in resolution and directed me to public information I already had.
AARP markets itself as a member advocate. My experience shows otherwise. Unless resolved by Sept. 5, I will be filing a small claims action. I expected better.
PT prior auth with non approval
1. I have been waiting for AARP UHC to approve addition PT appointments for me since my 7/15/25 appt was scheduled, but needed canceled, because they didn't give approval, in time for this appt.
2. I've had to cancel 2 additional weekly appointments after the 7/15 appointment, which includes my appointment tomorrow.
3. My PT provider is getting the runaround from them and they are told that they need to contact Optum. My PT provider called Optum and was told they needed to call AARP UHC, which they did and then requested a 3-way call with my provider, AARP UHC and Optum. Nothing ever came of that discussion.
4. I fell and fractured my right maleolus and tibia/fibula, not only fracturing the bones, but doing extreme tissue damage of my foot, ankle and lower leg.
5. My last original approved PT date was on 7/10, but it was decided by my PT, that I needed additional weekly PT, because I'm still having issues.
6. I have now had to cancel 3 additional PT appointments because of their inability to get with the program to approve additional visits.
7. This in my opinion is abandonment and could result in a poor recovery outcome, causing permanent problems for my complete recovery.
