Booking was online via discovery car. At the airport we had to pay extra for cleaning the car and to drop the car again at the airport, just what we booked.
The other rental cars were with another company, where we didn't have to pay these extra's.
Disappointed.

From the beginning to the end everything perfect. Top communication, perfect car, no deposit, under 21 possible and full insurance.

I believe Funchal Drive acts in bad faith by charging customers for non-existent damage or damage that was not previously recorded in its system.

In my experience, I rented a car for six days. When I collected it, they told me about the damage already recorded on the vehicle, but they never showed me photographs covering the entire car. When I returned the vehicle, they claimed there was minor damage that I had to pay for. They told me that, because I had excess insurance, I would be reimbursed for the amount charged.

In short, the damage they claimed was not actually there. However, since they had placed a €2,500 hold on my credit card, customers are effectively forced to pay whatever amount they demand, with only the possibility of later recovering it through Global Cars insurance.

We had a fantastic experience renting with FunchalDrive during our family holiday in Madeira. Everything went smoothly from pick-up to return. The car was perfect for exploring the island, and the team was professional, efficient and welcoming. Thank you for helping make our trip so enjoyable. We would happily choose FunchalDrive again on our next visit

The pick up time was too long. 1 hour and more.... no place to stay. You should be more prepare with procedures more simple or fast.

A company whose main business does not seem to be car rental, but rather keeping customers’ reservation money and extra insurance. It was, without a doubt, the worst experience I have ever had with a car rental company.

They took 45 minutes to pick us up at the Madeira airport, even after we called to let them know we were waiting.

They accepted the reservation payment in advance with a Universo credit card. However, once at the office, they cancelled the rental contract, claiming that although the card had available credit and had been validated at the terminal, they would not accept it for the deposit. They cancelled the reservation, kept the amount already paid, and did not even take us back to the airport.

It is incomprehensible that they cancelled the rental because of the card. The contract terms state that the payment and the deposit must be made with the same card. It makes no sense for them to accept that card to charge the reservation and then refuse it for the deposit. I also informed them that I had a Visa debit card, which, according to the conditions published by the company itself, should have been accepted. However, they did not even try to process it.

I asked to speak to the responsable for the office. They said that person was not there. I asked for their phone number, but they refused to provide it, limiting themselves to giving me a generic company email address.

I and my family ended up walking back to the airport, a journey of about 50 minutes, because they refused to transport us. At the airport, we rented a vehicle from another company without any problem.

An extremely disappointing experience. I do not recommend this company.

Una estrella porque no puedo poner 0. No solo me siento ESTAFADA en cuanto a los importes totalmente aleatorios en el pago de los supuestos daños que te imputan, sino que 6 días después sin consentimiento alguno, ni justificación ni pruebas, mandan una factura y se cobran 187€ más en concepto de un nuevo daño que se han sacado del bolsillo. Al preguntar a atención al cliente me comentan que tras mi comentario negativo previo, lo han revisado y se han dado cuenta de que se habían equivocado y les faltaba por cobrar ese importe. A pesar de tener el contrato firmado donde no existía ese daño (que aún no sé cuál es) y supuestamente haberme desbloqueado el depósito. Por supuesto están denunciados ante la Policía Nacional por estafa y cobros indebidos.
Destacar que la tal Sonia que responde en atención al cliente es bastante condescendiente y no soluciona absolutamente nada, se limita a decir que es lo que hay, no facilita hojas de reclamaciones y es 0 transparente. Una vergüenza absoluta.

Our trip to Madeira was awesome, the place is beautiful. We rented a car at Funchal Drive company. The crew is very friendly and professional, our rental process went easy and without any problems.
The extra transfer service what they offer (belongs to the rental, no extra price) is a very good way to get to the rental company from the airport.
I can truly recommend this company for others! 5 stars

Bom dia, o processo de reserva foi realmente um pouco complicado, foi a primeira vez que em varias reservas que fiz em outros operadores, que me exigiram um cartão de credito de um banco físico, ou seja nada de revolut, wizink, etc...
Para continuar, foi a primeira vez que paguei uma taxa de limpeza logo no levantamento do veiculo, ou optava por pagar uma taxa na hora do levantamento, ou depois pagava na entrega uma taxa mais elevada, mais uma vez nunca nenhuma outra operadora me exigiu um pagamento de limpeza antes mesmo de levantar o carro, pagamento sim só no caso de entregar o carro em más condições de sujidade e não de uso diário.
No final e já na entrega do veiculo, o funcionário, baixou-se no para choques da frente, afirmando que eu tinha raspado num passeio, risco esse que só se via se realmente alguem se deitasse debaixo da viatura, situação essa que não me foi mostrada quando me entregaram o veiculo, até porque as fotografias que tiraram antes e depois não se vê nenhum risco no para-choques. Situação essa que me fez realmente desconfiar de alguma lealdade para com o cliente, visto que o meu seguro não tinha sido feito com funchal drive, mas sim em outro agente de seguros, acrescentando que realmente não poderia ter sido eu o causador daquele risco, porque no único estacionamento que parqueei o carro foi no parque do Hotel, onde nem sequer existia passeios.
Conclusão: pagamento de 224€ por um dano que está oculto debaixo do veiculo, que sei que não fui o causador do mesmo.

El servicio fue muy eficaz, nos recogieron del aeropuerto en muy poco tiempo, la entrega fue sin ningún problema, el coche práticamente nuevo con menos de 5000 km y la devolución y el acompañamiento a la terminal perfecto también. Y los precios son muy competitivos.

Funcionários simpáticos, mas a viatura que nos foi atribuída, precisa de manutenção, nomeadamente embraiagem nova.

The comunication with the office in Ponta Delgada and with the "central" office was perfect. The car was waiting for us in a perfect spot, and the check in and out was super fast thanks for the staff.

L'entreprise est à fuir. Nous voyageons régulièrement et louons régulièrement des voitures mais n'avons jamais eu une telle expérience. Je rejoins malheureusement les autres avis négatif sur cette entreprise.
Elle refuse de prendre votre caution sur une carte de débit car il faut absolument que se soit une carte de crédit... Qui fait attention à sa carte pour savoir si c'est une carte de crédit ou de débit ?
Elle vous oblige donc à payer une assurance qui double le prix de votre location (car là du coup, miracle, la carte de débit fonctionne bien...)
Le nettoyage n'est pas inclus dans la location... Aucun loueur ne fait ça !
En plus l'entreprise n'est pas située à l'aéroport (presque un détail en comparaison des autres déconvenues). Nous avons été obligé d'attendre une navette pendant 30 minutes.
Nous avons refusé la location et sommes passés par une autre entreprise. A voir les commentaires des personnes ayant réussi à louer la voiture sans souscrire l'assurance exorbitantes, qui ont été forcé de payer des frais ensuite, je me dis que nous avons été chanceux de ne pas avoir de carte de crédit !
L'entreprise se cache derrière ces conditions générales, se qui en dit long sur ses pratiques commerciales.
J'ai de fort doute sur la véracité des commentaires positifs sur cette entreprise

Slechtste ervaring ooit met een autoverhuurbedrijf.

Ik wou dat ik eerder de zeer slechte reviews van dit bedrijf had gelezen.

Er werken onbetrouwbare mensen die beweerden dat mijn creditcard niet geldig was waardoor ik verplicht een extra verzekering bij funchaldrive ter plekke moest betalen anders kreeg ik de auto niet mee.

Pure oplichters.

Ga NOOIT hier een auto huren, u bent gewaarschuwd.

Dit soort bedrijven maken dat de branche een slechte naam krijgt. De medewerkers ter plekke zouden zich moeten schamen dat ze toeristen op deze manier oplichten. Wie slecht doet, zal slecht ontmoeten.

The car was clean, and the fuel tank was truly full. There were no issues driving up steep inclines, even with the air conditioning running. We are satisfied with our choice and the car provided. We received excellent service, even without speaking a foreign language.
