Noleggio ok ma con vettura diversa da quella scelta
L'auto che dovevamo noleggiare era una Polo automatica, allo sportello ci hanno proposto una Yaris automatica con una tacca di benzina oppure un'altra auto di categoria superiore ma che comunque per il nostro breve viaggio a noi non serviva. Abbiamo accettato la Yaris con evidenti segni di ammaccature e graffi un po' ovunque, ma ho accettato di sottoscrivere l'assicurazione totale (abbastanza conveniente) e quindi non ho avuto problemi in tal senso. Nel complesso ci siamo trovati bene con l'auto noleggiata e anche col personale, cortese e disponibile. Non metto più di tre stelle solo per la scelta obbligata della vettura, per il resto non ci siamo trovati male.

Credit Card Issues
Before I go into the negatives of why you need to be careful when renting a car with Autovia, here are a couple positives:
- The car we had ran incredibly smoothly and had no issues when we returned it.
- The mileage was only 3000km so it was practically brand new.
Now here are the issues we ran into and something I would like to express about the Terms and Conditions which were not made clear to us before we collected our car - in which I will get into.
- So as part of the Terms and Conditions it states “A Credit Card (physical card) in the main driver’s name and surname (no abbreviations) with a large enough limit to cover the excess (EUR1390.00)”. However what is not made clear in the T&C’s is that if some of your documents have MIDDLE NAMES in full - as well as first and surnames - it will not match in their system, and therefore will not process as you being the same person. This means when we arrived, we were told that we could not take the car out… and the only option we had was to pay a sum of £751.65 which covered full insurance coverage (including hail which did not make much sense seeing as it was in the middle of August).
- They told us to try and see if easyJet (the flight company we booked the rental through) could help us. Unfortunately there was nothing they could do.
- The gentleman that served us was upfront and impolite, and did not give us any opportunity to read through any T&C’s or documents when he told me to sign the documents to confirm insurance… And after charging us this unbelievable sum, he asked us to give him a 5 star review.
- I will say however, he did feel bad for us and offer a free upgrade vehicle.
- Just after we were told we couldn’t take out the car because of my credit card, another family ended up having the exact same issue with their credit card, so it seems like this is a very common issue that needs to be properly addressed and looked into.
Overall, the experience in the car was good, but I would advise anyone looking to rent a car with this company to act with great caution. Even if there is one slight issue with the credit card, you will be forced to pay a full sum of insurance to cover the issue.

we are sorry that the issue with the credit card created such a difficult start to your rental, although we are pleased to read that the vehicle itself was in excellent condition and performed well.
For the rental guarantee, Autovia requires a physical credit card in the main renter’s name and suitable for the required pre-authorisation. The details on the card must allow the holder to be identified correctly. Where initials, abbreviations or incomplete names do not allow a clear match with the customer’s documents, additional proof may be requested or the card may not be accepted.
Our conditions do not state that the mere presence of middle names on identity documents automatically makes a card invalid. The key point is whether the cardholder can be identified with sufficient certainty.
Where the standard guarantee requirements cannot be met, the branch may in some cases offer an alternative solution with full protection that allows the rental to proceed. This option is intended to overcome the guarantee issue, but it remains optional and the customer is free to accept or refuse it.
We are also sorry for the way you describe the interaction at the desk. Customers must be given the opportunity to understand the documents and optional products they are being asked to sign, and requesting a positive review should never make the customer feel pressured.

we are sorry for the inconvenience you experienced and understand how frustrating it must have been to arrive at the rental desk and find that the vehicle you booked was no longer available.
Our rental conditions provide for a maximum grace period of 120 minutes from the collection time stated in the booking and, in any case, only within the branch opening hours. At airport locations, if the flight number was included in the booking, the grace period is calculated from the flight’s originally scheduled arrival time, again subject to the branch opening hours. Once this period has expired, the booking may be considered a no-show and the vehicle may be made available to other customers.
We are also sorry that you were unable to reach the branch when you landed. Collection outside the branch opening hours is only possible when authorised in advance and may involve an additional charge, as stated in the rental conditions.
From the review alone, however, we cannot determine exactly what the additional €200 amount you mention relates to.

Good car and pickup/dropoff when we fond where to go.
Milan airport had changed since our last visit and it was difficult to find the right place for both pickup and dropoff. Clearer instructions and signs would have helped us save time and effort.

We rented a car via booking.com in…
We rented a car via booking.com in Italy. Autovia didn't accept our credit card, they didn't accept our debit card and we didn't get the car. We called their customer support (from EU, their support is in UK) this 15 min call cost us 50 EUR. We got no help and at the end got asked to rate their service (haha) after we got to know that we will not receive a refund for a car we didn't get.
We then had to come back to the airport and overpay for the car from another provider (luckly they had a car available).
To summarise: we lost~300 EUR and ~2 hours of our trip

we are sorry for the inconvenience experienced at pick-up and understand the frustration of not being able to use a booking that had already been made.
To release the vehicle, a physical credit card in the customer’s name is required and must be technically suitable to cover the security deposit, excess amounts, possible extras and contractual obligations. Debit cards, prepaid cards, virtual cards or similar payment tools are generally not accepted as a guarantee.
This information is stated in the pick-up requirements, in the voucher and in the conditions provided during the booking process. Booking.com also lists all the requirements needed to collect the vehicle, both during the booking process and after confirmation.
Without a suitable guarantee card, the rental cannot be completed under the standard conditions and a failed pick-up due to missing requirements is not refundable. We are also sorry that the phone assistance was not perceived as helpful.

My 8-day booking was cancelled even…
My 8-day booking was cancelled even though I had already paid an 80% advance. The cancellation happened simply because I arrived 3 hours late for the pickup.
Their policies seem heavily biased against customers. After cancelling my booking, they attempted to rent the same car to someone else at nearly double the original price while refusing to provide a refund. Overall, my experience was extremely disappointing and felt unfair and misleading.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS - con artists - when arriving at the pickup desk . handed over my visa credit for the deposit and was told that they wouldn't accept it despite it being a compliant card according to my booking voucher ( Halifax clarity credit card). was told the only way around it was if i purchased there top insurance coverage at an additional 250euros. the same thing happened to 3 other members of the group we were in despite us trying multiple different credit cards.

Any proposal of full coverage is an alternative and discretionary solution intended to eliminate the excess amounts and make the rental possible even when the card is not considered suitable. Acceptance of this option always remains entirely voluntary.
We firmly reject the accusation that we are “con artists.” We consider this statement seriously damaging to our company’s reputation and potentially defamatory. Customers are fully entitled to criticise the service received, but allegations of fraudulent conduct should not be made without concrete and verifiable evidence.
